The rivalry is probably viewed in England how, say, the England Germany rivalry is viewed in Germany. Or the England Argentina rivalry is viewed in Argentina.

You are a second rate rivalry, at best, to these nations.
On Germany you maybe right, although no way you can know for sure. But I'll admit Germany probably see Italy, France and Spain as bigger rivals.

Argentina, no chance, they hate us more than Brazil don't you worry. With the Falklands still huge over there, they threaten to invade more than once annually, not always reported in the news, the reason I know this as I've a mate who's been on guard over there at Christmas and the Navy had to bring the bug guns out to warn them off, they hate the English and want to beat us at anything they can. Then you go back to games against them, 2002, 1998 with the Beckham kick, 1986 with the cheating prick himself, probably more but can't be arsed looking. Why do you think Maradonna was cheering Colombia on, it wasn't just for his dealers sake.

As for the home nations, i wouldn't even class any off you as second rate anymore. When we play you yes we want to win, but only as we'd never hear the end of it if not. I haven't a clue where any off you ended in the qualifiers and couldn't care less.

I consider Russia a bigger game now after what happened in the Euros with them.

I do agree though you should have your own channel.

I think, or hope, it's possible to want British and Irish football, to be as strong as possible and beat as much of the rest of the world as is possible. Whilst also heavily wishing your nation beats the other home nations whenever a meeting comes around. They aren't mutually exclusive? At least that's how I feel and I can't be alone in that?

Except BBC South West (as well as many other English regions) have their regional news programmes on at the same time as Reporting Scotland
Big waw wee. There is the UK National news at 6pm on BBC then England get 'regional' shows at 6.30pm. At 6.00pm & 6.30pm Scotland gets two Scottish National news programmes. This is really upsetting for the tartan clad sensitives....Dear God almighty.

Scottish news in this sense is regional news that is reported on at the exact same time and in the exact same manner as BBC South West, or North East news, or whatever.
NO it is not....it is NATIONAL NEWS....the clue is in the names of the shows....you can see that can't you?

The finding that many headlines do not apply at all to Scotland was identified by Ofcom
Of course they don't....not directly but as I previously alluded to there are many many people who have an interest in these headlines and who will still be able to view them irrespective of the Jocklanders gripes and groans and can then if they so wish watch Reporting Scotland (I have found no evidence of this being ditched) and then at 9pm can go onto the NEW, all singing and dancing Exclusive Scottish channel on BBC which will report on.....Scottish, UK AND international happenings but from a Scottish perspective whatever the fuck that means.....

But, no, it must not be an issue because someone on a football forum with absolutely no grasp of the situation thinks it isn't an issue.
Do you practice at being obtuse or does it come naturally? When I say it isn't an issue who do you think I speak for ? Me or hunners of folk I don't know ? Go on have a guess.

What a sad fucking life you and the rest of the Jocklanders must lead when you can get upset over fucking news programmes and applaud an SNP driven agenda. So sad.

The Argentina rivalry has to be the most pathetic in all of sport. A relic of the Thatcher era and a despicable Argentine junta. Good riddance to both. It should be completely laid to rest.

The Colombians hate us now so that might develop with the war of words and both sides slating each other.

The Argentines hate us, thats obvious, possibly why they are also one of the few top tier football nations we never seem to play in Friendlies either.

The Germans have a big rivalry with the Dutch I believe? Our rivalry with Germany stems mainly from the war days doesn't it? whereas the Germans have generally tried to move on from that dark era in their history, hence Poland/Holland etc possibly also having that rivalry with the Germans.

In terms of the home nations most England fans don't really care. If anything generally its nice to see the home nations do well as essentially part of the same Nation, even like to see ROI do well.

May I ask why this is brought up here in a Colombia vs England match? We're out of the World Cup and there's no ill feeling here against England when they're winning it.

I've wrote it here many times that we don't see England as one of our archrivals in football. We always respect them but a win (or loss) against them don't give us the same good (bad) feeling as against the Dutch or Italians.

ABB (Anyone but Brazil) is now our hope because we don't want to see Neymar winning the trophy and Brazil winning it for the 6th time (and jump again 2 ahead of us when we just closed the gap to 1 in 2014 ). And we don't want to see Brazil lift the actual trophy for the 3rd time (and matching Germany here ;) ).

Just discussing the posts about rivalries hence my point in your reply that you don't see us as a rival like we do Germany.

Ah,ok.

Good luck for tomorrow against Sweden (and for the upcoming matches if you win). I don't have the slightest problem with England winning the World Cup and most of my fellow countrymen either.

ABB ;)

Thanks, would be nice to have a rare tournament success for a change after what seemed like a curse at times, but will be a tough tie.

Don't mind German football myself, great experience at Bundesliga matches which England could learn a lot from (although wont tell a HSV who my German team are?)

ITV now proving Jude spot on tbh. Quarter final of the world cup, France v Uruguay, we're 10 minutes into the programming and all they're discussing is England.

That's a fair point. I'd say leave it till 10 mins before the end of programming before you even mention things to get the hype train going for tomorrow.

I always class the German/England rivalry as one between a couple of league rivals where you have supporters from both sides in the same workplace.......not genuine heat between either, but usually both sides can have a good deal of banter at the other's expense

as for f*cking columbia and their claptrap moaning.....

I'm not saying I like the French, the Argies or the other rivals, but first and foremost I'm ABI. Much more important to me than a sporting rivalry is how the football team is set up to play - for ex. is the football pleasing on the eye? do they know what fair play is? are they sore losers etc etc. And as you well know Dirk, the Italians are a pain to watch, quite often very very lucky (except in that infamous S.Korea match when even I could see they were robbed by the ref), and quite possibly the worlds biggest sore losers IMO.

Oh btw, I don't exactly dislike Brazil as they also play footy the right way. I guess just like everybody else I just can't stand Neymar's antics so I will be cheering on the Belgians tonight.

We shouldn't bloody be there in the first place. Just a pathetic attempt at reminding ourselves we once had an empire. Same with Gibraltar.

Right, we're way off topic here and in danger of going down some strange paths. There is more than enough to talk about in the other threads. Closed.
