A lot of those games were draws when he had that 28 game unbeaten record at Scunny. His tactics were shocking and the amount of points dropped from winning positions was one of the highest in the league and we eventually crawled over the line and got promoted. He was clueless and he was lucky that the league was so poor. It's a shame that things haven't worked out for him at York though, but i'm not really that surprised.
I think it was the highest by quite some distance - 30 odd points or something daft IIRC (stand to be correct on that).

jsmith083....i raise my glass to you, dreams do come true
I must confess that, on Monday at lunchtime, I sat on my flat balcony on Shooters Hill and had a liquid lunch to celebrate. After publicly wishing for his banishment for months, my dreams came true.

When Danny Wilson was at Pools he had a big budget, when IOR were still interested in the club.
Can't see him doing anything at a club with no money.

In normal circumstances I'd say no chance.

Agreed but just now with the troubles at Northampton seen against a stable club moving into a new stadium in the near future ?

That's what I meant. Could happen if a takeover doesn't soon, he's bloody good too and lives in Sheffield.

With 1.5 years left on his contract - cannot see York paying us compo. Unless of course he is without a club due to NTFC going under or him being effectively out of contract.

I would not rule it out, the McGills may push the boat out this time knowing how important it is we move into the new stadium as a league club. On top of that its a move back up north for him. He may also be keen given the problems at Northampton. His odds have shortened again today.

will they have to pay compo if Northampton are not agreeing to payments on his contract?

~would their failure to pay today leave a free get out clause??

never understand this aspect of it all

Is that happening ? If his contract is not been honoured in any way he has a get out without compo I would have thought

His good mate is negotiating a deal to takeover. If it's like to happen I think he will stay, if both teams are financially sound we are a bigger club and better proposition in my opinion. However, if he does leave it'll probably mean the takeover won't be happening. Really hope he stays, and I think he will. Love the bloke.

I think the bigger club, better proposition is going to be debatable 18 months down the line. The new stadium is expected to generate a big increase in revenue for the club with the owners in control of that revenue generation as they gained the contract for the running of off field facilities. That's going to see the club in the best financial position it's maybe ever being in. Add in the expected increase in attendances with the new stadium boost and the prospects should be positive if it's managed correctly. I also believe we have the advantage of having a board of directors who are a family of life long city fans against many clubs these days who are run by nothing more than investors with no love for their perspective clubs.

Do you not think there is the danger of, when we move grounds (if it's ever built) that McGill & Co. sell up? I obviously hope not, but there is the danger I think

it depends what they are after, I don't think Abbott is a bad manager, just not a good one either.

i think he could easily sort a midtable side, but we trimmed and trimmed until nowt was left in L1.

Why does the club have to go under - surely the fact that he has not been paid this month would negate his contract if he so wished.

Yes. Its gone down like a lead balloon with the fans. He has already been interviewed. I can only assume he's very cheap. http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/sport/13927901.Abbott_emerges_as_leading_candidate_for_City_hot_seat/

:fl::fl:
The fact you've interviewed him should ensure he doesn't get the job. I cannot imagine him impressing in an interview.

No but seriously he's a terrible manager. He got given the biggest wage budget in our clubs history, and managed to take us from league 1 playoffs to bottom of the league, the crowds dropped by half or more over his tenure.
He also doesn't have a clue when it comes to spotting talented players, developing them and selling them on. What he does instead is give them away because "they aren't better than what he's already got", then his gormless fat chop drops as he watches these players go filling their boots for their next clubs and going on to big 6 and 7 figure transfers. E.g Paddy Madden, Nahki Wells.
The clown even put Gary Madine up for loan when he was with us. We were midtable league 1 at the time so Abbott probably imagined conference clubs would come in for him... so he must have been very confused when a championship club came in and took him on loan and started him. But that piece of fuckwittery did him good because once Madine came back Abbott had to play him, then a year later we sold him for nearly a million quid. But Abbott did cost us millions over the years. I really could go on...
