For me, it's one of those situations where I think I'd rather it was a technical failure because that would be fixed. If it's a bomb, as obviously looks more likely, you sense many innocent people will die. People as innocent as the people on the plane. But that's how we do politics in this day and age, I guess.

Seems settled now that it was a bomb and, from reports, seems to be as small as a can of drink. Wouldn't this have to be very, very carefully placed for maximum effect, rather than just slipped into a bag?

This was my first thought when I first saw the picture.

Also, IS have supposedly said they were originally planning on bringing down a plane from another one of the countries that are part of the coalition, true or an attempt to make Russians blame Putin?
