Did he take the guise of Mo Faal?

Looks poor sadly doesn't he, I'd have rather a tired Palmer stay on than have him trying to see a game out. That change was a change for the sake of it.

No first touch and has no awareness of where he needs to be, the others are having to tell him what to do. It's early days but he looks on his own wavelength away from the rest of the team.

I'd imagine the lad who signed the it day will be ahead of him once he's had a weeks training

Pretty comfortable win, looking a fairly solid workman like team at the moment.
Hopefully stay in the auto hunt going into Jan when we should have 5/6 players back and money to spend on someone like Joe Taylor.

4 points from wigan away and bham at home is an exceptional return, keep putting the points on the board keep those relegation spots away.

Sign of the times isn't it?

As Cloughie said (the, original Cloughie...) Who once said "He couldn't trap a medicine ball"..... after signing someone for a million pounds+ (can't remember who...was it Fashanu??)

Not going to crow about todays win, it was an ugly game won (deservedly mind) by a scrappy goal. But the effort put in this week by the players has been huge. 3 wins, 9 points 5 goals for, 0 against, 3 deserved wins. Well done to the lads and Gary Monk, now let’s get this season started. Lots of injured players back soon so reasons for optimism is building.

So what’s the deal at cambridge! couldn’t buy a win, monk under pressure the board getting ready to sack him, then bam 3 wins on the bounce which with respect must have came as a surprise to all.

What’s the story?

Garbage. We give away silly goals and don't put away our chances. Glad we've got a couple of weeks off now
I believe Whitworth has been really good for you ? and not sure he did too much wrong today but does his lack of height not get exposed? Can’t remember seeing a keeper look so small before.

Going back to basics in defence, dropping the play out from the back tactic. Stopping the stream of terrible individual mistakes which cost us game after game. Raise the intensity of the press and finally getting a few breaks luck wise. Nobody has completely beasted us this season so far, but now we are looking like we can manage key periods in games much better. Our striking options are so limited due to injury and poor recruitment but by cutting out the defensive mistakes we are always in the games. Next few weeks should see the return of Loft, Lavery and Stokes and possibly Gardner and McConnell, so having hauled ourselves off the bottom by our boot straps we can look forward to carrying much more threat going forward. Getting much higher in the league will take time though but at least we’re now in the mix.
I think Monk now has a fuller appreciation of our squad and it’s limitations and now is taking a more pragmatic approach. Returning Micheal Morrison to the team has been pivotal.

Barnsley at home. Have a spell knocking it about, give away a soft goal early in 2nd half, Hurst makes some subs around 70 minutes, Barnsley nick a 2nd late on and everybody wanders off home.

Hopefully wrong but our games especially at home follow a bit of a pattern
Not a million miles off. Lost 2-0, gave away a soft goal early in the 2nd half, the subs were made on 60 minutes. We didn't have the spell knocking it about and the 1st goal came in first half stoppage time.

Today was the game where the questions of Hurst started mounting, which started with the team selection. Playing 5 at the back, 3 holding midfielders and a winger in a front 2 at home wasn't a good start. To have 2 of the back 3 being Nsiala and Pierre bordered on criminal, and then our 3 most creative players in Castledine, O'Reilly and Sagoe Jnr sat on the bench was bizarre. The latter 2 didn't even get on the pitch at 2-0 down. Apparently the selection was to cope with Barnsley's aerial threat, but then afterwards it wasn't a game to bring them on! Only had 2 shots on goal all game, both long range efforts from Bloxham. Barnsley didn't have to get out of 1st gear.

Another word on the ref. I know I've moaned about decisions in our last 2 games. Again he wasn't very good. Corner for the first goal was incorrect, but we had multiple chances to deal with. He was actually poor in our favour. For me Barnsley should have had at least 2 penalties for holding at corners by Nsiala whi wasn't even looking at the ball. We seemed to get the niggly 50-50 decisions, yet they still ran out comfortable winners.

If anyone who’s got birmingham at home the next few weeks it’ll be interesting to see what their scouts think of today.

2nd half we were basically like fuck this we’re going to come for you and rough you up, and boy they didn’t like it, some of the diving was absolutely top drawer.

Now clearly obviously they’ve players well and beyond what many of us have but you can either sit back and get beat or you can go and have a go.

Birmingham achieved their aim of coming away unbeaten, but i can’t imagine many there will be suggesting they were worth the win.

Clough again with the subs at HT which made all the difference.

Another toothless attacking display from ourselves, gifted Wycombe the first two goals, should really have been further behind at half time.

Due to injuries and terrible attacking signings our bench is now very limited, meaning we end up switching shape at half time which didn't really do anything.

Fair play to Wycombe, with the team they've built over time with their investement they've got a good experienced squad, not sure if they will get over the line and go up, but will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

They were miles and miles ahead of us.

They were absolutely piling it on last 5 mins, they were hardly settling for a point. That to me says they are a proper team who expect to win the league and beat everyone anywhere.

We are still in contention despite having no less than 7 out every game since August
We played that 2/3 in midfield again today with Mcatee the one dropping into midfield.
Posh offered nothing and we got the win we deserved.........They came for a point and got sucker punched
Awful tactics again of falling over feigning injury. We are there to be beaten if only teams come and have a go. The 7 missing today 5 would certainly start if everyone was fit. This league is closer than the last few years bar Birmingham.......Not sure it is stronger

That’s true.

We had three brilliant chances to win it after we scored and were looking more likely to win it other than that 5 minutes though.

Birmingham will win the title, probably comfortably too.

But in hindsight we had 3 glorious chances at 1-1 to get the winner ourselves, once again they “piled it on” and didn’t get a single effort on goal in that time, we just forced them back.

Their manager indeed said that the 2nd half was the toughest they’ve had so far this season.

I don’t think Birmingham had one shot on target in the second half, some turnaround considering they were playing it about looking very good in the first. Point a fair result.

Didn’t see the game, but I hope you lot manage to turn it round, whether that’s through extra loan or permanent signings (I get the feeling from your forum that the £££ isn’t there for the latter), or a change of manager (Wellens still seems popular though). That said, you’re still above the drop zone (just) so not too bad for now.

As far as us - still very early days, and I won’t get carried away, but we have a decent squad which, most importantly, is deep enough to sustain a few injuries, and we’re not overly reliant on any one player - we have a bunch of scorers in our side rather than one 20 goals a season player, where we’re screwed if they get injured.

I think at the start of the season, I thought it would be stronger than it is, but perhaps the common theme is that you have a bunch of sides with decent resources underachieving right now.

Not by much, mind - and the table is still really close at the moment, so let’s not get hung up on positions. But I would expect more from the following:

Barnsley
Bolton
Charlton
Posh
Rotherham
Blackpool
Wigan

Conversely you’ve got us and Mansfield who probably no-one expected to be up there, but may be just a flash in the pan.

Wrexham are an unpredictable one since I don’t think they strengthened hugely over the summer (which is often fatal coming up here from L2) but you could argue that they originally signed players who dropped a level or two in the first instance for big £££, so maybe they have reached their natural level.

We are underachieving big time. There are many reasons for that not least the system we are playing and the rotating of our forwards. Then we have had injuries from day one that have not helped.
Yesterday was perhaps as good as we have played all season and a draw would have been a robbery.

Still very much in the Evatt out as he is tactically inept but Yesterday those players played for him
We need to get back to basics with Collins and Charles given a run together up top and the rotating scrapped
Win your shirts.........Also we should soon start to get a few players back.
With a new Manager we will get that second spot with Evatt we will minimum reach the play-offs simply because bar Birmingham our squad is the second best in the league.
Or at least deepest........We have two teams that would finish in the top 10 in this league managed correctly

Charlton deserved nothing out of that, but football doesn't always work out that way.

A good point all in all, but highly frustrating to not win.

I know handballs can be a lottery and inconsistent on being applied but did think that was always going to be given as he was right in front of goal even if the ball came from close range .

Stockport County.
Thought it was two pretty average sides at Lincoln yesterday. Can't see either side doing anything dangerous. Can see why the Lincoln fans I spoke to weren't complimentary to their style of play.

We need to get back our identity of playing which was high press, front foot. We have lost our way in terms of what we're good at, I've said that all season tbh.
