Whatever the motives were for the linesman, this wasn't an honest mistake. It was a purposeful decision and my suspicion is that it was made to stick 2 fingers up at those who were giving him abuse. Surely officials must accept that they're going to get criticised but you still have to play to the laws of the game and not just make stuff up because you've got a vendetta.

After a poor run of form, that could have been the turning point for us and there's no other way of putting it, we've been cheated.
I don't see why the linesman would do that as he would know he will get slated for it in the press etc, possibly demoted for an error like that (think he had been in the Prem this season the POD suggested?) so surely that can't be something you'd do on purpose knowing the fall out you'd get making that decision.

I'm sure under Artell in the relegation season we played at least 18 different players at wing back which was hilarious. It could even be more than that given how big our squad was.

But yeah he was never one for Davis like tactics of going 1-0 up and sitting behind the ball. If anything, a key weakness of Artell's teams was they failed to kill games off despite creating tons of chances in seemingly every game when times were good under him. We'd then often concede the first or second shot on target we faced but that was down to Artell devaluing the role of a goalkeeper. Makes you think how good we could've been under him at our peak if we didn't have crap like Richards and Jaaskelainen or a declining Ben Garratt in net.

We don't create loads against the decent teams tbh , he is trying to go at it the way you guys describe but it doesn't always work and seems to end up with longer spells of playing it around at the back which seems to end in an error quite frequently .

I suppose the caveat is that with you he had what 4 or 5 outstanding talents probably above the level whereas with us he's got a strongish squad of average to good league 2 players . I hope we can develop some of the one's in house and have a few years like you did ; I would take promotion , 10th and then implosion now tbh would be a lot better than our recent history .

Maybe not consciously but I'm certain there was some bias in his decision. He also lied to Moore and said there was a player in his way, which has been demonstrated false. I still don't think it's an honest mistake. He has the perfect view, everybody else in the ground can see it's in. Even the ref should have called it. The liner will just give his adjudicator a load of excuses and that will be the end of it. Nobody will ever know what he was really thinking and it's impossible to prove.

Technically there was a player in the way... the lad clearing the ball... the fact he was completely in the goal net though means its obvious where the ball had to be! :ffs:

There was two handballs and it was 2 foot over the line, maybe even more so you should have one of the 2 live officials in that half give it either a goal or a Penalty and Red Card but we can't do anything about it and as you say only he will know what his thought process was with it.

We shouldn't let it detract from another very below par performance, especially first half which was the worst of half of the season and the fact we have been out of form since Ben Garrity got injured v AFC Wimbledon.

Luckily he is due back in the next week or so and hopefully Byers is ready to go Saturday because we seem to be very sloppy in possession of late and have missed them big time.

Moore setting us up like he does with the quality he had at his disposal also needs looking at, need to stop setting up to how other teams play and focus on ourselves, if our team is as good as it looks on paper then it should be mostly other teams changing to counter us not the other way round.

Currently Grimsby certainly do not create loads of chances. For me, we are a long way short of doing so

Had a browse on your forum this morning. Grimsby fans seem like a reasonable and knowledgeable bunch, giving credit where credit is due.
Believe me, this is an exceptionally new but pleasantly surprising trait. We're usually incredibly knee jerk and irrational as a set of fans/forum.
