Won't stick the boot in to Wrexham, but got to say their back line is the worst I've seen for a long time. Sign some proper centre halves, you're not playing Bromley Wood any more

Isn’t it about £700k’s worth of centre back they had out there?

Aww did Wrexham get beat and concede 5 goals again?

But their fans told us that L2 was going to be a walk in the park for them because they are the greatest ever non-league team..

Really happy for Cook - coming back and netting three goals. Great that we actually went out and attacked from the off. Hopefully more of the same in the coming weeks.

I've always said that the difference isn't massive, but mistakes that you get away with against Bromley Wood will be punished in this division. And we punished their awful back line today. Plus we restricted them from any dangerous set pieces, which I understand is the main threat

Good efforts from a few others (I see you Creepy Crawley) but I'm going to stick my neck out and say League 2 result of the day was at Stockport.

First time we’ve scored more than 1 in a league game since mid December. So that’s something to celebrate.

If you defend that way they do get punished at National League level as well, we conceded 5 to Dover at home remember.

Too many of these crazy defensive displays now. Something has to change, the centre backs we've signed are all from League clubs so that tells me it must be down to tactics. Bar Tozer, who is not up to it at this level anymore, he's done IMO and a long throw should not save him. We don't even score off them anymore.

Enough in there to take some positives I thought, despite the usual woeful defending and absent midfield. Lavinier looked a decent addition again, time for a start.

It’s frustrating in a way that we can play well in spells, but it’s rarely been quite enough to get a result. Partly it’s down to the fact we aren’t great defensively, plus the fact we often lack composure in the final third (Deeney excepted) but also think there’s been too much disruption leading into the season and a lot of injuries. Still not sure what our best xi is or when they’ll actually all be fit.

This will either go two ways, one is we’ll get more belief as the team gels, start playing well in longer spells and start to look a bit more solid and hopefully pull up into lower mid table, or two heads will start to drop a bit as we keep playing alright but not winning. I’m hopeful it’s the first one as I like the way Horseman is trying to play, but we need a couple of results soon otherwise it’s looking like another long winter in and around the bottom.

Not played great today, that’s how it came across on IFollow anyways but still three points.

If we stay like this for another month or so I’ll say we are the real deal.

Well we came out like a fresh new team at the start of the second half. A whole new energy and confidence. Some defensive gaps we know about, but, despite the loss, there was a lot to like about how we played after the break. If only we could play like that for 90+ minutes...

We didn’t lose. Forgot how that felt.

A decent performance from Sutton today, could have won it but just couldn’t put our chances away after doing well to create them. Heads didn’t drop after the goal.

Fair play to Hurst for signing some decent looking players but then ruining it all by employing dog shit tactics for them to play to, topped off by the winner being scored by a player he wrote off last season
Can’t look at the Fishy which predictably is in absolute meltdown. I just don’t think we have the squad depth. We’ve made some quality signings but actually in terms of depth we are no stronger. We are a centre back short if Mullarky has to be shifted from a position he’s been excellent in. The shocking loss of form of Glennon means we are very weak on the left. Letting Orsi leave when under contract and bringing in Pyke made no sense in any respect.

In midfield, Clifton hasn’t been at his best and Holohan, whilst grafting like a trooper as usual, is getting on a bit. Hunt, that I for one had high hopes for this season, is now not even making the bench. We don’t appear to have a genuine 10 to replace McAtee, which means the 1 up top is isolated.

And don’t get me started on the lack of a big striker as an option. If we were going to let Orsi leave then surely it would be to bring in something that we don’t have.

Thought you were excellent for long spells in the second half, mostly thanks to Deeney. You just went direct and he was winning everything and crucially had the quality to make sure it all ended up with a teammate and in a dangerous area.

We’re always vulnerable when a team gets on top of us like that because we don’t have a holding midfielder and our wing backs are both forwards, there’s very few defensive minded players in that team. Just the quality going the other way that bailed us out, the fourth Notts goal was a picturebook counter attack.

It’s been an astonishing start for us now really, and I don’t think we’re close to our best yet. Langstaff and McGoldrick in particular haven’t properly got going as I think they will.

I've been impressed with Orsi this season. He has missed a few sitters but he works his socks off for the team and he has a decent touch. Scored the winner which would have pleased him. Thanks for selling him to us.

A very Notts thing. Be cruising at home, have a bad spell, go in to win but still concede 3.

Luke channelling his inner Burchnall
We were cruising but came out second half, half cocked. Fair play to Forest Green, they came at us and Deeney with service will score 25 this season without breaking too much sweat.
At 2-2 we decided to get serious and scored another pair at a canter but defensively we were proper wobbly.

It really was quality some of your movement forward, not surprised you get the crowds with that to enjoy. Obviously we helped a bit by not trying too hard to stop you.

2nd week in a row where Crewe Alex have ridden their luck and emerged with a pretty undeserved result. The midfield is getting overrun, the tactics are far too passive off the ball and the attacking play away from set pieces is inconsistent at best.

Colchester looked a decent side, moved the ball well, controlled the game aside from a crazy opening 10 minutes. Certainly shouldn't be where they are in the table, Fevrier for them was dangerous all game and you can tell they've got some quality players in Tovide, Taylor and Chilvers. They'll be top half on todays evidence.

As for us, massive improvements needed in how we play with and without the ball. The midfielders need to step it up as they've been invisible of late.

It's been a fun twelve months, good attacking football. The downside is that it you're not dour you tend to be very open and we are prone to lapses and being a bit lightweight.
Looking who we've played so far it has turned out that we've had an easy run going from the table.
Our fourth was a peach of a goal, back to front in three passes and at real pace with a calm McGoldrick's finish.
Him and Deeney might be knocking on but they are both better than L2. as is Langstaff to be fair.

Again, a bit like colchester last week that was dreadful by the standards expected by clough.

Got to hand it to barrow, really really impressed with them, that’s a side that’ll go far under wilder, well organised, pacey in the wings, brilliant defence - i mean it’s not for me to state what their ambitions are but that was a class performance.

As for mansfield, poor once more, leggy, total lack of cohesion in midfield and sean looked all over the place. That backbone of flint, clarke and DKD is the backbone we need going forward.

Onwards.

As soon as we started chanting ‘you fat bastard’ at Deeney I knew we’d be in trouble.

Fair play to FGR, great second half performance, unlucky to lose really. That match summed up our summer recruitment, massively improving our forward department, while enthusiastically saying bollocks to getting anyone in who can defend.

What a swashbuckling performance, I can see FGR climbing the table easily on there 2nd half.

Sounds like we had a clear penalty shout turned down first half, the ball clearly strikes an outstretched arm but I can only assume the referee has said the player was too close to the ball when it was played onto him.

Wild agreed with Tiensia's red but also stated there was a similarly aggressive tackle by Macdonald on Feely in which only a yellow was given.

Main concern for me is that we've got a decent forward line but I'm not sure if Wild knows how to utilise them in combinations yet. Only eight goals scored across our first eight games, frustrating as we've conceded the least of everyone in the league so far. Hoping it's a case that it'll click soon, rather than this current form being the best we've got.

Can’t comment, maybe the ref was bored of the 3 or 4 dives in the area by barrow looking for penalties which should’ve warranted yellows in the first half. odd tactic as 2 of them would’ve seen a shot on goal, the mansfield fans were having none of it.

Probably one of those of where the boy that cried wolf.

Barrow were curious in their approach, the best side i’ve seen at mansfield this season, as said above.
