Walsall were a good side & we gave them too much space, letting them run at us so pleased to have got a point today. The 4 changes really improved our game, I can’t understand why one of Berry or Colclough werent on from start. Madden looked good again. Mandeville shouldn’t be playing RB at this level, makes you wonder if Cook doesnt trust Daley-Campbell yet. Thompson looked shaky so expect Boot to be back in against County next week. I didn’t agree with him being dropped tbh.

I keep seeing people saying about their clubs injuries. Are players more susceptible to injuries these days? It would seem so.

Ours is ridiculous, and a big factor in our current struggles. We currently have 10 first team players out injured, nearly all long term.

Anyone else's as bad, or worse?

Nailed on we will lose at Chesterfield. Need Didzy back.

They are overdue a win against us. If it happens I'm gonna have to watch and re-live the playoff final in all it's glory to put an instant smile on my face on Saturday evening. :bg:

Who's the two you front you want Jatta and who.... Scott?
He's all we've got. He may not be quite good enough but we gave Vales defence a day off with just one player to mark. We slung enough crosses in to win the game but Jattta was double marked in the box.
We're also playing our best no 10, Crowley as a sweeper which is ridiculous management.

Scott or Brown, not sure it matters. At home we need the extra body in the box far more than we need yet another central midfielder.

I just don’t get what Maynard is doing half the time. Crowley’s spent a season as probably the outstanding number ten in the division but has now been moved to the Libero position for some reason, Abbott had a great debut as a holding midfielder and has immediately been moved to second striker where Crowley should be, the wing back swapping is chaos, we hooked Tsaroulla at half time for no apparent reason when we were actually getting some decent crosses on with two wide players on their natural sides for once. It’s just weird.

I would expect Notts fans will be puzzled how they lost that and to be fair I’d be the same. Was it a scintillating Vale performance? Absolutely not. Am I really pleased the team changed the habit of a lifetime and maintained defensive discipline? Definitely. Any Notts fans who come on and say we looked utter dogshit I won’t blame them but results are the name of the game so will take it regardless.

Biggest worry for me was Kyle John looking pretty hurt at the end. Really don’t need to be losing him.

I could almost hear his groin go from where I was sat, so I think he might be out for a while…

Yeah other than the first 20 minutes we stank the place out, no threat at all really. If we’d scored obviously a different game, but we didn’t so it wasn’t. Vale looked more likely to get a second than we did to get an equaliser. Said it often, but we can’t rely on 4 players for creativity and threat, particularly when we can’t get more than 2 of them on the pitch together.

Vale looked very similar to Gills, solid in defence and a threat on the counter, but we make it so easy for anyone even half decent to play against us at home.

You can see it, everyone I talk to after the match could see it but apparently playing a centre half for the last ten as a striker is the answer rather than setting us up as a 352 or variation of it.
Really disappointed with today's performance as much as the result because I was irritated at the players playing out of position.

Pre kickoff I was dearly hoping for McGoldrick and Jatta up front but when I saw McGoldrick not in the match day squad I was happy it was just Jatta tbh

Yes he should have changed to two up in second half and without doubt playing Crowley that deep is a waste, he's light years ahead of the rest. Inexcusable especially with no JJ. Palmer has lost confidence imo and is playing very conservatively which hurts us.

That's what the head coach should be asked but those days of good post match interviews are long gone.

Even with one up top on another day Jatta bags an easy brace. He has to hit the target with the header in the first half and do better with the chance in the second.

Not going to overreact though after a rare combination of disappointing performance and result this season.

Not a great performance from us at Salford today. Neither team played well . 0-0 would've been a fare result. The Salford player should've been sent off for a totally reckless challenge on our centre half Joe Lewis. Booked and Lewis had to go off injured .

It seems so far that anyone barring the bottom 4 can beat each other on their day - Didn't Harrogate beat Donny badly , Donny smashed us today , Vale beat Notts today , we beat Gills . It's all dead random isn't it?

If you told me at the start of the season we would be 4 points off top after 10 games I'd have snapped your hands.

Then if you told me you'd lose 5 of the first 10 i'd expect to well into the bottom half.

It's cumulative. We weren't good at Morecambe, had some luck in the end at Carlisle, lost the last two at home against teams we need to be taking points off if we want to be contenders.
We've a better keeper, defence and midfield options this season but there's something unconvincing about us.

He scored one at Wembley, a fine goal, I had a great view of it sadly. Yet he ended up in tears after being substituted.

His playacting a diving in the game at your place when Langstaff scored that sublime goal was embarrassing. And in front of the TV cameras to boot

Is it too much to ask that just once, Donny come here and play shit?
Every fucking time they turn into AC Milan Real Madrid and hammer us, that first 45 today was like when you play a team from a higher league in the cup and get torn to shreds it could’ve been 6 or 7 nil by half time.
No idea on the second half as I had a kip but my lad said we actually should’ve scored twice with a 1 on 1 and a max scramble where the lino eventually gave offside with a load of Doncaster players on the line.

You’d meltdown as well if for the last year you’d seen every away team with a pulse, and a few without, turn up at the Kojak or whatever it’s called now and piss off with the points without having to break sweat.

Not to start any BEEF, but I thought Gillingham, much as they did on Tuesday, looks very very average. Clearly solid at the back, but they aren't quick, aren't tall or overly physical, aren't strong technically. Not sure what they're actually good at.

We were the better team and we were missing 3 first choice strikers and 3 first choice midfielders. Finished the game with only 2 players over the age of 23 on the pitch. Took our chances when they came along and aside from one mistake where 2 of our defenders tackled each other for the ball and almost allowed Nevitt to score, Gillingham created nothing.

Still not sure how high we can go, as these injury issues aren't going anyway anytime soon. But we've got the team spirit and togetherness of last season back, which is great to see.

If anything we should be used to it. Although only 5 teams won more home games than us last season

Was he in tears? I haven’t watched it back for obvious reasons. Tbf to him he doesn’t dive or roll around on floor anymore, just think it’d be funny if he did for this game as he seems to live rent free in some County fans heads

Sobbing, understandable given his young age. His beautiful goal in the season decider counted for nothing but a short lived happy memory.

I'm glad to hear he's turned a leaf because even the BT commentators were embarrassed with his actions (falls and flops) that day and throughout the season. My favourite was the nudge in the back he received whilst the players left the field at half time and he went down as if shot. It was memetastic.

I suspect less rent free, more point and laugh to most fans.

Nolan and Williams just shifted it square all the time against us and the other game of there's I saw looked pretty easy to defend against . Not sure if that is regular but for Gills the best bet looks getting the lad on the left in behind rather than the tippy tappy stuff . Maybe Alex are play-off contenders or better?

Good interview with Crowley on our young fan AB7 YouTube channel very classy fella.

Notts are difficult to judge at the moment, 4 of their 5 wins are against the bottom 6 and the other at home to Grimsby so will get a better picture in this run they have against some of the likely contenders.

Without Jones our full backs largely were able to frustrate and rarely did Notts get in behind them so it was a lot of deep crosses and very predictable. They are very good on the ball and can see why they’d be too much for the weaker sides in the division but sides more streetwise and able to punish on the break they need to be more switched on, their defence to me looked very fragile.

Good to see a couple of the players who get pelters last season come good this, Debrah was outstanding at the back today.

Thought Kyle John was again quality and hopefully not a bad injury, Moore is suggesting it may be fatigue as it’s only his 8th career start today and Stockley was the perfect sub to help us hold it up and relieve pressure. He uses his chest like most players use their head! Thought Curtis has his best game for us too.

The electric lime is warming on me now with our form in it!

Aww Dobs. You can’t fault his passion & commitment.

I do remember that! Not his finest hour. I suspect he’s one of those players you love when he plays for you but hate as an opposition fan. But as I say he’s sorted himself out a bit & he’s a better player for it.

Should be a good game next week.

Thought they passed it really well, but it was that side to side shit we did with Crosby last year. Against some of the weaker teams, it will tire them out and they'll crack, but if you're organised it's easy to play against.

We've played quite a lot of the top half now, so hopefully we can pick up some results against the bottom sides too. If we didn't concede on Tuesday in the 90th minute we'd be top tonight!

Certainly should, off the top of me head i think we’ve won 5 home games in 2024. And 3 of those were after last season had gone.

Absolutely terrible result for us today. Sorry, I mean terrible result for those within our fanbase who claimed we are desperately short of a striker.

People claimed we needed a striker last Christmas, we signed Stockton in January on big loan wages, subsequently went to shit. Hope today made them realise sometimes it's better to be a sum of all parts after a ridiculous meltdown after being beat by Donny on Tuesday.

Agree with everything posted by your fans on here the changes made a difference and seemed to throw us off for about 20 minutes I thought overall we probably should have won the game we missed too many chances today and the goals we conceded were poor again defensively that said I predicted a loss today so a point isn't a bad outcome as I fancy you to do well this season.
Nathan Lowe is our number 7 who scored both goals he's got 6 in 9 unfortunately he's not our player and I think we'll be lucky to keep him past January if he carries on like this he's only 18.

He looked a brilliant player, wasn’t surprised to read after the game that he played 13 times for Stoke in the champ last season at just 18.

As you say, you’ll do well to keep hold of him past January if he continues to churn out performances like that. A constant thorn in our side throughout.
