Imagine the Vale fans if Paul Rice was still about... he would make Higgy sound eloquent.

valefan16's point about us being similar sized clubs rings a bell with me, as I've always drawn parallels between the clubs. I started watching Rovers in the early 90s right at our peak, and endured decades of steady decline in Div 1 and then League 1 (minus some glorious cup runs that will never be forgotten). We bottomed out by dropping out of the football league with two quickfire relegations, something that would have been unthinkable when I first wore a white scarf.

I hope Vale don't go down and that they turn a corner. The national league is a weird place and it's a pig to get out of. Ask Wrexham, Stockport, Chesterfield, Notts County, Grimsby, Luton etc... all proper clubs I didn't think I'd ever see in non-league. I'm rambling now, but good luck for the rest of the season - FWIW, I'm certain you'll be fine.

Port Vale should be well clear. Its not a certainty that any team around 32 points can be secure though. A bad run for them and a good run for one club at the bottom could drag them into the mire. Its happened a lot.

3 wins in 19 is a bad run isn’t it? Aside from Bolton the other two were against the bottom two with Pope describing Southend as the worst professional side he’d seen in his career.

Looking at it 45 should be enough to stay up, would need the bottom two to get 7/8 wins with the odd draw with 19/20 games. I’d hope we can scrape 4 wins from somewhere.

See what today’s press conference brings I guess.

45 will have you about 10 points clear. Can’t see anyone below Notlob getting to 40.

6th Feb table showing teams below Bolton;-

21 Stevenage PL 26 GD -8 Points 26 (NOW 52)
22 Barrow PL 25 GD -5 Points 23 (NOW 41)
23 Grimsby PL 27 GD -26 Points 21 (now 33)
24 Southend PL 26 GD -27 Points 20 (now 35)

so - 2 of the 4 are already over 40 points....

Thanks for that entirely irrelevant contribution.
