One of the oddest games of football i’ve watched in some time really, another one of those games that i keep banging on about where we need an out and out striker, had we had won today we’d have won with the countless half chances we created, but we don’t and we didn’t.

Crewe did to us what we did to stockport, basically. Would love someone from the club to explain what we do from set pieces as they were again terrible.

Certainly didn’t deserve to lose, but it’s our own fault, crewe came and played a decent game - organised, closed down well they did everything brilliantly apart from their embarrassingly shambolic 450 or so away fans.

What have we done to upset Barrow that they score their worldies against us? Both home and away the match decider this season was something special.

Think this game showed how key Robbie Apter was to our revival. Once Saunders went off injured at h/t, there was little pace in the team. Maybe Hawkes should have been given more match time, but despite his shot against the post, that might have left us more exposed defensively. Barrow looked a solid well-drilled team and can’t argue with the result. It was my first visit to Barrow and despite the result, was pleasantly surprised by the location

We gave away a silly goal in the second minute and never recovered (maybe offside!?) although Crewe did not threaten much (like ourselves) they defended very well for the entirety of the game because we had loads of possession but did nothing with it.

I think today was a rare occasion of Clough getting it all very wrong, playing Reed and Brunt together, chucking Flint upfront, taking Maris off, just a bad day at the office for him or the players.

Very Mansfield that today considering what we did on New Years Day, bad news about our two injuries against Stockport too, Johnson is 10 weeks and Oates is out for a longgg time.

Appreciate its early january but that’s poor.

Oh I see. I'm not an away followings weirdo but 450 seems fine for a relatively small club like us.

Good pick if games lasted 85 minutes. Not sure what happened there but it must hurt to concede 3 in the last 10 minutes.

Can't wait to see the highlights. Bradfords second goal sounds odd. Addai saves a Cook pen the fumbles the ball into the net!

Good win for us. Orsi may attract some interest as he is scoring some goals. If only Grimsby had a player who could get this amount of goals . :fish:

Casey
I liked the look of Orsi, would love a striker like that alongside Cook.

Would’ve expected 8-900, but least those that did turn up enjoyed it ;)

I didn't know Mansfield, with only one season above this level in the last 3 decades, were suddenly massive too. Just not a big draw of a day out is it when they're always stuck in this division.

Excellent win for us against the team I genuinely believe are the best in the division from what I've seen on the pitch. 7 points out of 9, back to back clean sheets for Tom Booth and the defence after a leaky December. Cant ask for more from this excellent bunch of players who, despite a recent blip, just don't let us down and give 100% week in week out. Sadly, I hear it's all in vain because we only took 450 today and football is indeed all about attendances and not results.

Once you've been Mansfield away 5 times or so like I have over the years you've been more than enough. Always grateful for Mansfield mind. We always get a decent result there and, the one time I actually saw us lose there, we sacked Steve Davis the next day. So even that loss felt like a win!

Yeah, it's really not. We don't travel in large numbes, never have. Almost 500 for an average ground in an average town, a place we've done to death over the last few years, was never going to see us take huge numbers. Why did you expect more?

Oh and I'm not sure you're one to talk, you were struggling to get 3,000 home fans in League Two 7-8 years ago. Wind your neck in a bit.

it’s been rare this season but it’s standard Clough over the last 3 years. He did something similar in our first bottle under him where we changed the formation/style to fit Murphy in and we all know how that season finished.

Well said gentlemen.

The recent big and undeniably impressive jump in home attendances at MTFC certainly has gone to some of their fans heads with their giddy comments.

If they are true fans and not a teenager they are fully aware that they indeed struggled to get 3000 at the Field Mill for many a season. The effect of the infamous Keith Haslam seemed to effect the locals for about a decade after selling the club. Booo!! Hiss!!! That man.

Say something silly or something that makes you look stupid, get a bite. Then quickly go quiet. Yay! Well done Adam :2thumb:

It's a very big IF that. But I'm sure additional bodies will help our cause.

I remember Clough's Sheffield United always being as incredibly wasteful as you were yesterday. He loved aimless low crosses to nowhere in the hope that one of his strikers would gamble. Probably his downfall as a manager really because I firmly believe such tactics and lack of cutting edge led to his sides not fulfilling their obvious potential.

I'm never going back to Mansfield because we won 5-0 the one time I did go and we're not gonna top that.

We are very wasteful particularly at home for some reason. So I don’t wanna hear the oh no we gotta go to Field Mill Saturday I’ll take anything other than a thrashing I’m scared vibe

We struggle to score goals at home big time.

Saying that we are pretty much out of strikers, can only think of Akins and Swan and neither really look like they can score a goal at the minute.

I think it's cathartic for some fans after they have lost to take the 'small wins' like fan numbers, fan loudness, or how the winning team celebrates and have a little dig.

Each to their own.

I’ve always said we struggle at home and we do for the reasons you’ve said, nearly went for a crewe double chance too!

So so wasteful, at the very least it’ll make cloughs mind up on us needing reinforcements uptop, though after oates last week i dare say he’d have already been on it.

Crewe did to us what we did stockport, they were organised, well drilled and defended well.

Hold on, i said that the numbers were separate to the result in the original post. I praised the noise from those who went also / just commented that the number was really poor.

I couldn't help but notice the same trend. How the winning team or Pete Wild celebrates is my current favourite dig after you lose.

"They celebrated like they won the league" sounds like a good thing to me. Sounds fun.

The celebration police are one of the worst things about football.

My comment wasn't necessarily a 'dig' at you Adam, more a long term comment on behaviour, as someone that reads more on here than writes and I apologise if it came across as that. Every football fan is different and that is what makes the forum fascinating.
