it's been a week since we said goodbye to our much loved pet,
so sad are my family we haven't stopped grieving yet.
some people just don't understand or can comprehend,
how it feels waiting for your broken heart to mend.
"alfie" was just a dog with his own personality and charm,
but he was part of our family protecting us from harm.
every evening sitting on the stairs he would wait,
looking out of the window for the homecoming of his dad/best mate.
we would cuddle up together on the sofa in front of the telly,
he liked nothing more than a good old rub on his chin and belly.
taking him to the vet was so hard knowing he was going to be put to sleep,
i knew it was for the best but i broke down and started to weep.
the vet's receptionist was very understanding and she gave me a tissue,
i looked "alfie" in the eye and said ...."i'm sorry old friend, thanks for the memories and we will always love you."
