Some interesting mentions for us.

It's worth pointing out that we've lost the talismanic Dele Alli, had Grigg (our only recognised striker in my view) return to Brentford, Rob Hall (who was a perfect fit for us) go back to Bolton and are yet to secure our goalkeeper. Initial bids for those two loanees were rejected and it's very uncertain as to whether we'll go back in. Rumours are we're looking across Europe but the untimely death of Head Scout Andy King can't have helped matters.

There is allegedly £10M for team building but that's a chicken feed compared to many at this level. Robbo went on record as saying he needed six new players once we got promoted. No doubt a couple of them will be long term loans. The theory was that we could secure a higher calibre of loanee in The Championship, but the very nature of those deals means that they probably won't happen until the season starts and possibly even when Prem Euro squads are announced. It's all starting to look as though it could be a bit last minute.

If the season started tomorrow we'd be nailed on bottom three.

So would we.

And you're not spending 10m surely..

£10m is an awful lot in this division! We spent around £4m last year, and most of that was funded by player sales. Most teams apart from one or two will be limited to £2-3m tops.

Surely not £10 million if we still arent going to buy Grigg and the only thing Robbo and the players talk about is trying to stay up.

£10M total including annual (new) player wages would seem a bit more realistic.

Yep. Exactly that.

What most fans fail to grasp with the Grigg deal is that it isn't just a £1M outlay. He'd want at least three years at £5K a week plus*. That's now a £1.75M deal minimum, and you have to consider potential relegation and loss of revenue. We don't operate by doing deals that jeopardise the long term future of the club.

*-pure speculation of course. Brentford may be paying him that already!

There's £5M from the Dele sale and another £4M increase in TV revenues now we're promoted. Projections for attendances are that they will go up by at least 30%. Add to that the increased S/T sales (up by 2,000 and climbing), Corporate boxes and Sponsorship, as well as the holding co' expanding the hotel, raking in the money from all the new restaurants, cinema and retail*, then we're in great shape.

*-lots of development behind the away end for those that have been before and used to park on the rubble.

£10m increase in revenue is probably about right, but you won't put that all forward to transfers, no one does.

Plus, you like everyone else half decent, would have been losing money in League 1, so some of that will just be covering losses from previous years.

Not a massive surprise, but think Brentford will mimic last season, but perhaps go that little bit further and win promotion. Moneyball to prevail!

The team that starts off great but then falters as the season progresses?
QPR.

The team that will be up there all season then mess it up right at the end?
Derby. This is the Championship and Derby may seem 'set up', but I don't see them doing it.

The team that will be fighting against relegation when they really shouldn't be?
Leeds. Cus' they're massive.

The team that will be first to sack their manager?
Cardiff. Poor Slade.

The team that will pretty much dominate the league for the full season?
Don't think anyone will dominate as such. Though Brentford and Wolves look robust enough to me.

The most hated team in the league?
Don't really 'hate' any team, it's only a game! Though Cardiff would be the obvious choice for most disliked.

The team that plays the best football?
Purely based on what I saw on TV last season, it was clearly Bornmuff. I liked how MK Dons play their game last season and they're up with us, so MK Dons.

That team who just seems to have been mediocre all season, stuck in mid table?
Huddersfield.

We could be 20 pts clear with 10 games to go, and we'd still find a way to fuck it up!

Middlesbrough
The team that will be fighting against relegation when they really shouldn't be?
QPR, although I don't see why they shouldn't be!
The team that will be first to sack their manager?
Maybe Preston. Grayson is good at L1, not sure about this level
The team that will pretty much dominate the league for the full season?
Hull.
The most hated team in the league?
QPR, probably.
The team that plays the best football?
Might be Leeds - if the idiot chairman lets Rosler get on with it (doubtful)
That team who just seems to have been mediocre all season, stuck in mid table?
Bristol City (whose fans might be reasonably happy with a steady season)

Sorry but those places are reserved for the clubs from Lancashire, the South East and Yorkshire (except Leeds).
No worries we'll take just above mid table then. :p

BUMP this up.

Derby
Wednesday
Middlesborough

Stand out teams who will go up. Easy.

Preston
Bristol City
MK Dons

Stand out teams who will go down. No improvements made to their sides, quite insulting that they think they can come up with their league one sides and stay up.

No-one is under that illusion. We'll strengthen, it has just taken longer than we'd have originally hoped.

If the season started now, we'd go down, but the fact is that it doesn't start for just under a month, and by then I'd call it a guarantee that we'll have strengthened by then.

And there's still a month left.

If you generally think we're going to go into a Championship season with 15 players you're an idiot. We aren't coming into Rotherham's league here, this is the league in which we've spent the majority of our history in. We know what it's all about.

No it's about quality, what's going to happen with less than a month left is that you'll panic and get anyone in.

Put it this way with our summer recruitment, you along with MK Dons and Preston are going to have to go a very long way to have a squad on par with ours in under a month, seen as though by and large everyone had us as favourites to go down.

I can't see any of the 3 coming up going back down this season. Just because they haven't signed anyone now doesn't mean they wont in the next 7 weeks that is left of the transfer window. I can see PNE and Bristol City signing 3 or 4 first team players that will add real quality to their teams on top of what they have already got. MK Dons will use the loan system to their advantage, think it might be more of a struggle for them but if they can get the right players in they should do alright.

You don't have to sign 30 players to compete in this league. All 3 of them got 90+ points (I think?) In league 1 last season so they have good squads to build on.

League one was shite last season, if Wolves hadn't gone up with is you'd have probably not dropped a point.

All 3 of the clubs squads aren't in the same league as ours right now and they'd have to go some to match it and we're favourites to go down.

We've not signed 30 either, 10 have left, 10 have come in, we won't sign half as many as last season and we'll be stronger for it.

The 30 players comment was aimed more at last season to be fair.

I see Bristol City as a similar team to us and Brentford when we came up, minus a good striker. If they can get a decent goalscorer I can see them having a similar first season back to ourselves.

PNE have a good goalscorer in Garner in L1, but the jury is still out on him to prove himself in the Championship. Yeh the quality is better in this league than the majority of L1 for sure, but I don't think Bristol City or PNE would have looked out of place in the bottom half of the Championship last season.

MK Dons look noticeably weaker than their League One team, are going to need a very good last 6 weeks of the window to catch up.

Bristol's side is full of unproven championship players just as ours was last season, they'll struggle.

Preston's side hasn't change much in 2/3 seasons and they've been in the play offs in a poor league for the last two.

Panic signings? You have no idea of what goes on at our club with regards to recruitment and those who work 'behind the scenes'.

Ever thought we haven't signed anyone as we're not prepared to panic and pay silly money?

Value and quality go hand in hand. That does take time to equal the right players. Plenty of time yet.

Thumbs down to you SERNWA.
