I just don't understand the optimism about the strength of the side from JJH, apart from your heroic win against us a few weeks back your £20m+ squad is doing fack all. Even with a monkey in charge if the squad is all that you should be picking up the odd point here and there. You can't put all that on Johnson. You're currently the worst team in the league by a mile, that includes Rotherham who won today btw.

I'm not putting it all on Johnson, the players have been mentally weak and shit themselves in the dying moments in games and it costs us. Ultimately, that comes back to the manager because he's paid to install confidence into them and have a game plan to see out points.

We've just beaten Ajax & Wender Bremen to a goalkeeper from Schalke who'll be coming in for Tuesday hopefully, we've just signed Preston's best centre back to add to a department where we were already pretty strong, we've got some very good options in midfield, a mix of experience and youth and the second best striker in the league to go with it.

We're weak in wide areas, hence the change to 3-5-2, but thankfully we have the money to address that.

I'm not saying the players are blameless, at all. I've not been anti Lee Johnson until today either, but that was the final straw. He won't get sacked anyway, and we won't go down.

Fair enough, I thought he looked totally lost. Lee T should have been playing there IMHO but I totally respect your view.
As I said, I don't blame COD at all but feel he was played in a position totally foreign to him.

He played there for Ireland in World Cup qualifying couple of months back and changed the game so he knows the position somewhat. Personally I wanted Reid and Tomlin in behind Abraham if we were gonna go 3 at the back again, so O'Dowda and Tomlin would've been good as well.

I agree though, Tomlin is the better player and him coming on at 3-2 down was poor poor management. Should've started the game or entered play as soon as they made it 2-2 to get back at them.

You have definitely not just signed Preston's best centre back mate. You've signed an average Championship defender, I'm sure he'll "do a job" for you but that's about it. He's nothing remotely special.

Clarke for me, Wednesday were sniffing this summer until we sorted him a new contract. Baptiste has been excellent on loan from Boro as well and will probably end up elsewhere next season cos can't see us being able to pay his wages full time.

Wright is a decent Champ CB, nothing more nothing less.

Baptiste has been playing right back though hasn't he, so you can't really draw a comparison there.

Fair enough, I think Wright will be a good signing, still time to develop and a full international.

Would rather see him on the right side of our back three though, given his left foot is pretty much non-existent.

Don't get me wrong, BW is decent enough like, but he's very limited technically. His saving grace being his great positional sense, given that he's slower than a stoned sloth. A good acquisition for a bottom half Championship team who just require their defenders to regularly be making last ditch blocks and booting it aimlessly up field. But don't expect him to be calmly bringing balls down and playing out from the back along the deck.

Don't wanna seem disrespectful to Wright because he's been a great servant for us, but bottom half Championship is his level, in my opinion.

As I say I think he's taken a backward step in his career for more money but I can't really be assed debating Bristol City to be honest, i'll let you get on with your match thread.

I'll take your word for people being gutted, most people were just shocked he joined you from what I saw. I doubt they'll be too concerned now the dust as settled and they realise we won't miss him.

I didn't say he was a bottom half defender but wouldn't argue too strongly against it, he could play for a top 6 side if the set up was right but would never work in a tippy-tappy side.

It's a 'square pegs in round holes' issue again IMHO as I didn't think he was particularly good in that position. My issue, as you mention, is why on earth play someone in a somewhat 'foreign' position when you have at least 2 genuine '10's' in the squad? I find it totally unbelievable TBH and very unfair on the lad.

Cheers lads for confirming everything I've said about Bailey Wright to JJH . For some strange reason he's had it absolutely nailed on convinced in his head that he's some Premier League quality defender. He's horribly out of place in our setup at LCB and reminds me exactly of when El-Abd played there.

He used to play on the left side of a back three for us but he certainly doesn't have a left foot, I got used to him slicing one out of play under no pressure two or three times a game. He'll do his defensive duties no problem but don't expect to play out through him.

Will be interesting to see how he fares

Happened a few times yesterday

Overall he played pretty well and did grow into it, just seems like he's been the weak link last couple of games, as you say he can't bring it out so we have little outlet on the left either. Personally reckon he's only really suited to the centre of a back 3 (not gonna displace Flint) or a back 4.

He will be solid for you, just don't expect anything outstanding, his lack of pace and technical ability certainly limits him but he can defend.

Brownhill isn't good enough for us though, wouldn't get near our midfield and would have found himself out on loan again had he stayed.

He wasn't getting a sniff at your place either when you were at the right end of the table, that's not saying he isn't a decent prospect mind.
