You will still get the big fixtures and the minnows have a chance to progress. You say it helps them because they get more matches but they have no chance of progression. Also it wouldn't necessarily mean a financial loss because they could simply change the payout structure of the competition. That won't help with ticket sales but I doubt many clubs are bothered too much about the money made from filling the stadium compared to TV rights and prize money which can both be altered.
There's lots of things that would improve the CL. Being truer to its name would be a start.

If that's the way you'd prefer it that's fine, a knock-out system would be preferable to me as a United fan.

Getting back to the minnows, you'd have to offset a huge sum to be able to make up for the lost revenue in TV deals, sponsorship and gate receipts. I doubt very much they'd be able to afford to offer a parity to those earnings when the competition would be earning less. Then there's the fact that the fans of these clubs will most likely see two games rather than a guaranteed six. There's also the Europa to play for in qualifying.

Perhaps at the minute it's just a case of it being a novelty for City fans compared to Utd fans. Man Utd dominated the league under Fergus and domestically ruled the roost for the majority. Another league here or there, or an FA cup to add to the collection is nice, but when you've dominated so long domestically but only have 2 CL titles to show for 25 years of being at the top of the tree in England, then obviously the European competition success is the sweeter thing. The rarity of success in Europe is what makes winning it that much more attractive. Perhaps City need to attain some dominance domestically in order for them to be as interested in Europe as the league.
Ultimately though the Champions league is where you test yourself against the best and where you gauge your level. Every club aims to be the best so the CL is the bigger stage to prove it.

I do agree with Silks and other City fans that the league is the bread and butter. I wouldn't dismiss a CL win without either being the champions to qualify, or winning the title and CL as a double, but it would cheapen the victory a little. Where I disagree with them is the total dismissing of the CL altogether, the aim should be to win both domestically and in Europe at the same time. City fans come across as being overtly dismissive because they're doing poorly in Europe thus far, but they'll tell anyone that'll listen how hard UEFA are fucking them over. They care.

A couple of victories over a Bayern that had eased you aside when it mattered to them and lost when there was nothing at stake. City have failed miserably for the money Mansour has spent, fucking up the English coefficients for good measure.

Beating Bayern is a good feat, but the way you were presenting it was as if they were victories in vital games for either side. The truth is Bayern had already done the hard work. Why would I be bitter about City?

City fans don't like UEFA because they misguidedly believe they're trying to keep them down. It's a desperate attempt at being the plucky underdog many of them still try to portray the club as.

That's a part of it. There is a feeling that, because of the combination of things - FFP, seedings, convenient 'tv draws' etc that make you feel like UEFA simply don't want City (or anyone not in the select elite) crashing their party other than as cannon fodder. Then there's the other stuff that you've just ignored. Because apparently City fans are 'all' just glory hunters now.

I, and other City fans I talk to (including one on this thread), simply haven't bought into the whole thing. It's been an integral part of your season for 20 years. It's only just become anything other than an annoying sideshow for us and after getting to what we are repeatedly told is The Promised Land, it's just been wave after wave of bullshit. Why is that so hard to understand?

Come off it. FFP was changed by Platini expressly as a reaction to the likes of Malaga, City and PSG upsetting the applecart.

The seeding etc just feels like they are protecting the old guard. FFP was instigated by the old G14 mob who felt under threat. You might not like the way some clubs have made their way to the top table, but if you really think that UEFA weren't actively out to stop them, then you're deluded.
