Actually, I am very surprised that Adkins has not really molded a team together. His strength is being able to create the "team" ethos. He was the type of manager who could create a team that was greater than the sum of its individual parts. Not sure what happened at Bramall Lane, but I expect him to come could good eventually, but I understand that it is hard to have patience as a supporter.
For us, Adkins was fantastic and brought a new life into football management. He was successful, but he eventually chose to better himself by choosing a bigger club. He was successful at Soton and arguably was dismissed unfairly, but other big clubs showed that he has difficulties, eg Reading and yourselves. I am wondering whether his style is more suited to a small, but ambitious club (eg ickle Scunthorpe), where he can manage expectation better.
You will be aware of our classic song "Who needs Mourinho, We've got our physio." Now, it's more like "Who needs our physio, We've got Alexando".
