In a surprising turn of events, John Sheridan has today left Oldham to take up the job at Notts County. Big blow for Oldham as he has done a great job of saving them from relegation. Where do they go from here?

Another blow for Oldham, they just can't seem to get something positive going for an extended period of time.

Sheridan been promised a budget to achieve something at County that perhaps he wasn't at Oldham?

Strange move especially as Notts owner comes across as almost unstable as Vales. Can only guess Notts are throwing money at it next season. Shame for Oldham though as they looked like they were just getting something good going under Sheridan.

Mark Crossley has left our gaff to join up with his old mate Sheridan. Used to think he was good to have around as a mentor etc for Tommy Lee but Tommy had a pretty ordinary season last so maybe not.

Like has already said plenty of times already, seems an odd move on the face of it but i'd not be too bothered if i was an Oldham fan to be honest, Sheridan always seems to have a good honeymoon period and then usually it all goes pear shaped pretty quickly plus he's a bit of an arse anyway.

I think it was a budgie he was promised. Same as Sven.

Definitely under threat.

Personally opinion is he's gone because he's been fed misleading information on budgets etc and not willing to give him a pay rise that he's certainly deserved.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still a bit pissed at him, but our board have a track record of being a set of inept tossers so I can only think Shez felt this was the best decision to make.

I think with some decent additions, Shez will have County in the top 6 next season.

From Oldham with no money to Notts County.... With no money. What's wrong at Oldham for a manager that the fans like to leave?

we have money to be fair, if Trew wants to spend it - he gave us a top budget last season and Guy fucking Branston (whose signings were just...just...*starts sobbing*) wasted it along with Moniz (who was imo a decent manager but brought in some average foreign talent on inflated contracts). Trew then threw his toys out the pram and was like 'I'm not doing it this season' but the man seems to mirror my Dad's approach to buying a ST each year where he swears off it and then convinces himself it'll be different this season by the end of May. As such I expect this is just another attempt at Trew to 'have a go at it', the bloke can't help himself.

This will probably be the strangest move of the summer.

Clearly things are not well behind the scenes at Oldham for a manager to leave them for a team languishing in the bottom half of the division below

Technically we're joint-top currently.

A little rumour I've been told is County are fucked financially and are trading insolvently, which makes the decision by Sir John of Sheridan even stranger

Think this is the lowest I have ever felt as a ticket. Something is seriously wrong for this to go thru. We currently have only 2 first team regulars signed up for next season.

Talk of administration, no budget. If even a snippet of what you read on the internet is true We are seriously fucked. It can't all be wrong.

Talks of protests and people demanding refunds on their season tickets. It's only going to get worse from here on in. Had we gone down this year we could quite easily have been on the conference in 12 months time

Yeah you can't imagine Sheridan would have left in a straight swap unless something was seriously balls up at Oldham. Guess the safest bet is he's been told there's fuck all budget for next season which would annoy any manager new to a job and looking to build his own squad.

Very strange suggests there is something not right with Oldham's boardroom at all, however moving to Notts County surprises me a bit because they have hardly been the model of how to run a football club over the last few years. Sheridan is a great appointment for Notts providing he is given proper backing proven at that level and never leaves a club in a worse position than when he took over. Must suggest the Leeds rumours for Sheridan were false though.

Was probably true when you heard it but it's not anymore now Big Ray is back on board (why he's back on board is another question altogether and the long term situation is still very murky)

As an outsider looking in, I'd agree. Both seem to be decent blokes, who struggle to maintain the aura.of hard-headed businessmen when actually they're fans and also gamblers, who can't resist having "one more.go" at promotion/success.

Spot on. This is about the fourth time that, assuming what appears to be the case is true, RT has chucked his toys out of the pram towards the end of a disappointing season only to decide by the end of May that he's going for it again.

The irony being that if he'd just have invested the amount that he has in a sensible, consistent way then we'd be a promotion chasing League One side at worst right now.
