We haven't signed anybody yet but I'm sure we never start signing anyone until the end of June/start of July anyway, so it's nothing unusual. After last season I would expect us to be aiming to push the top three, but I'm not sure we'd really need more than a couple of new additions really as long as the main out of contract players re-sign.

How do you rate Sean Murray?

I'm not too sure to be honest. He works hard and isn't afraid to get stuck in, but I don't think he's shown all that much quality on the ball. His shots are always wayward as he tries to put too much power behind them, and similarly with his passing which is often overhit if he's trying to be bit hollywood. I've seen a lot of fans saying he's looked really impressive though so I'm trying to see what they see!

Think we're just gonna sit this season out. See you all in 2018/19

I must admit, even though I'm usually as optimistic as they come, the lack of anything going on at Carlisle United is seriously starting to worry me about the season ahead.

Our squad desperately needs some quality in key areas added. We have no goalscoring strikers unless Shaun Miller can get back to his morecambe form, we have no goalkeeper and we have 2 centre backs that Curle didn't even want last season.

I hope we're not going to end up lumbered with a load of half arsed shitty loan signings that don't give 2 fucks.

Could it not be the case that deals have been done, but just being kept under wraps until their current contracts expire?

I know we've done this in the past. There's been seemingly nothing happening and the on 1st July we announce a couple of signings.

Hoping we'll see some movement here this week because we have 11 at the minute and pre-season starts Monday!

We seem to be slowly but surely piecing a side together. Its so young though we really might struggle. Released about 12 and bought 6 in so far + 3 YT players on pro deals. Average age of our signings must be about 20 despite signing Scott Wiseman and Joe Anyon. We literally have no midfield yet either - David Brooks a 17 year old from Sheffield United (player of tournament for England in Toulon this month) is our next signing..nice and experienced

We're about three signings from a play off contending team. Porter, Bowery and Raynes already in and perfect for our needs; our strike force for one should be more than up to standard. Particularly impressed by Porter and I fancy Dagnall to get closer to 30 without Dull Davis sucking the life out of him.

Still short in midfield and the CM signing will have to be the biggest of the summer. Also desperate for a right back and one extra Central Defender. Total faith in Artell and Lunt to get the right ones after their early dealings.

After releasing 12 players (I think) we've brought in 8 players and still need around 3 more....

I think Caldwell will favour a 3 at the back formation with wingbacks offering width to the team, as that's the formation he used last season despite is not having the players to fit the system!!

So far our starting 11 is looking a bit like:

(3-5-2 formation)

GK: Tommy Lee / Joe Anyon

CB: Sam Hird
CB: Ian Evatt (C)
CB: Between Maguire/Mcginn/New signing

RWB: Scott Wiseman
LWB: Jerome Binnom-Williams

CM: Jordan Sinnott
CM: Strong experienced CM needed urgently!!!

CAM: David Brooks/ Joe Rowley

ST: Gozie Ugwu
ST: Kristian Dennis (Unless O'Grady signs who were heavily linked with somehow..)

Overall I'm happy with our business so far this summer, but as others have said I still think we're lacking experience outside of our defence which is extremely experienced. Priorities in the transfer window now is a centre midfielder, another centre back and possibly another Striker...

We'll probably announce someone tomorrow when there is a fans Q&A with the manager and the launch of the kit and the official opening of the away bar. I say fans, if you are a member of the Gym you can go, but you can't if you are a supporter that isn't a season ticket holder.

We really are a shower of shite sometimes.

That looks a good Conference strike force, not sure about FL.

Why have you changed your avatar? Did you lose a bet or are you secretly one of us?
I just love taxidermy and the tinpot thread. :ds:

I'm sure it will revert to trapdoor based content once silly season is over.

Dennis did alright in league 1 last season tbf, he managed to somehow still score goals in a shite team and out scored ched Evans... He will be fine in league 2, could see 15-20 goals from him with decent service, however not seen Ugwu play so still No idea about him!

We're still linked with Chris O'grady though so I guess we're after another striker, and even if we don't get COG, I'm Caldwell has other targets lined up

7 signings made so far, squad is coming along nicely. Definitely still need another striker, something else out on the wings and a decent right back and right-sided centre back.

Current starting line-up would probably look like

(4-2-3-1)

Lee Burge
Dion Kelly-Evans
Jordan Willis
Rod McDonald (Turnbull if he's staying)
Chris Stokes
Michael Doyle
Liam Kelly
Peter Vincenti
Stuart Beavon
Jodi Jones
Marc McNulty

Personally don't think we're particularly that prepared at all. Made a few signings but haven't actually upgraded in any positions as yet. Jabo Ibehre probably the standout signing but still a reasonable downgrade on the (probably) departing Barry Corr

We're likely to play 4-2-3-1 and looking at our current squad we still need a top quality CB to play alongside Legge and another striker that gives us a different option to Jabo and Uche. Someone with place and can get in behind.

Players in brackets can play in that position but far from ideally, whilst the * obviously denotes those whose futures are uncertain.

At this moment, if someone offered me a third bottom finish for Carlisle, i'd be tempted to take it.

Play offs to staving off relegation? You're having a giraffe.

We took 2 seasons to fuck up properly

Last season we were a top 3 side during the first half of the season, then we sold our top scorer in January and turned into a side that looked like it was in a relegation battle for the second half of the season. We scraped into the playoffs despite the woeful form.

I said many times on here that it's a big summer for us, we have to improve the quality in our squad. So far that hasn't happened and it doesn't look likely to happen. It stinks of the short sighted, lack of ambition that typifies our owners. It's like a repeat of the events that lead to our quick drop from playoff push to relegation in League 1.

We've actually lost more key players in Ibehre, Proctor, Raynes (although no great loss imo) and Mark Gillespie so if anything we're now weaker than the shower of shite I saw after Christmas last season.

Not looking good at all for us. Hopefully we pull something out the bag but at the moment I'd take third bottom.

Listen Carver buddy, you haven't signed anyone yet but there's still a lot of time left to do so. But yeah, you're right as last season's top 7 finish was a one off and I reckon 12-14th is looking more likely this year.

We have little faith in the board, so for us to be so far into the summer having not yet signed anyone is a major worry, they won't get the benefit of the doubt from the fans that we're somehow biding our time about to make a couple of game-changing signings, most likely we just aren't offering targets anything that might tempt them. We'll probably end up waiting until late July before plugging the gaps in our squad, particularly up front and in goal with a handful of players released by other League Two teams who haven't been snapped up already, someone like Rowan Liburd or one of the players Hartlepool released. I wouldn't go as far as HG and say I'd take 3rd bottom but I'd certainly take a top half finish if offered.

I just don't see where the goals are going to come from Shoddy to get us top half. This year we've lost Wyke and Ibehre our 2 main goal threats. That's 30+ goals taken out of our team that we haven't and probably won't replace. Our form was bottom 4 form up until the last 4 or 5 games when Jabo sprung into life.

As Michael Owen famously said, if you can't score goals you won't win matches.
