First off, the idea of a three-game finals day is a non-starter. If County made the final, I couldn't care less who played in the other two games, not when I could be off having a pint and something to eat. Not to mention it takes hours to get to London, I'm not setting off earlier to watch someone else.

Extending the playoffs to six teams is silly; yes it makes the season a bit more exciting for some more teams but they're nearer mid-table than the top, they've done nothing to deserve a promotion chance.

I would like to see the playoff format weighted towards higher-placed teams, though. Giving 2nd and 5th place teams the exact same chance is daft, should never have been adopted in the first place.

Make it thus - Match A: 2nd vs 3rd, and Match B: 4th vs 5th. Winner of A goes to the final, loser plays the winner of B for another chance for the final. This way higher placed teams get home advantage in their games; 2nd/3rd teams get rewarded for finishing higher by being able to lose a game and still get promoted, whereas 4th/5th have to keep on winning.

Ridiculous idea. Hampton and Richmond v Whitehawk at Wembley next year would be a disgrace.

Keep it as it is.

The National League "Congress" just went to show how deluded the people running the league are. The way they talk you would think their brand is a top level product on a par with the Championship or something, not a shit level of football which is run in an extremely tinpot way.
Talk about getting more games on TV (40 instead of 25) as if their in a strong position when they're extremely lucky that BT bother with it all. They'll probably drop it after this contract, they don't need it.

Maybe instead of Wembley they could have the 3 finals at the San Siro, Maracanã and the Camp Nou. And have every team in each division take part over a "Super Weekend" to decide promotion.

Forest Green chairman Dale Vince is sceptical of the National League's plans to make changes to the current play-off system – and instead believes they should consider reducing the number of teams.

http://www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk/forest-green-rovers-news-dale-vince-not-keen-on-national-league-plans-to-change-play-offs/story-29422596-detail/story.html#ixzz4C8ZfVUbz
But why should he care as it will not affect FGR as he stated weeks ago that FGR will definitely win the league next season, and also as i think somebody once or twice stated on here that FGR were head and shoulders above every team left in this league so therefore the league title is nailed on so play off opinions are therefore irrelevant.

Reducing the number of teams to 20 isn't going to eliminate midweek games is it?

Last season we played 8 midweek league fixtures, so in theory with 20 teams (8 less games) we would have had no midweek league games all season.

Well, 30 miles closer.

We took more to Wembley in the Trophy Final 99 then we did to Villa Park in the 01 final.

I enjoyed that one, obviously :)

As for yet more CONFERENCE tinkering... where will it end? We've had expansion to 3 divisions on 2 tiers, introduction of play offs, scrapping of the league cup, reintroduction of the league cup, scrapping of the league cup again, ridiculous rebranding, transfer window scrapping & now the proposal for a messed up Americanised promotion play off system.

I assume they pay someone to come up with these ideas... Probably be a better plan to invest that money else where.
