Has anyone got this? I made enquiries about it 2-3 months back but the price was astronomical, they wanted £300 for the main silver unit and an additional £100 for a mini-box for the bedroom TV, not to mention additional money each month for the same package I'm currently on. I checked again with retentions today and got it for a one off £60 for the main unit and a mini-box, with no increase in my monthly package cost. I'm just wondering what people's opinion of it is.

Meh, it's alright, but I got it for free. Don't think I would have paid for it.

Doesn't surprise me that they are selling it so cheaply now, whoever thought there was a huge market for people paying that much must have been on something strong.

I don't pay for movies or sport, that is a rip off. But for the basic cheap package, and the ability to record in HD for future watching, especially if you have kids, Sky is the still the best option. But this thread isn't about that.

I have kids and the best thing I did was get rid of sky and get Amazon prime and Netflix instead.
They watch a lot more varied progammes and don't see adverts where they want everything advertised to them!

It doesn't work, well the mini boxes don't. They're hoping a software update in the next week solves the problem otherwise it's gonna be pretty fucked. Shit product if you ask me, only innovative thing about it is the UHD, everything else it offers is already on smart TV's & xbox/playstation etc. The need not to have cabling for the other boxes is good but the connectivity is fucked atm so that's pretty redundant.

If anyone wants a code for top package Q holla me, think it's about 30 odd quid a month, dunno if the box(s) have a cost, couldn't be arsed to read my email properly.

You disappoint me Pagnell, you're the last person on this forum I expected to have this attitude about something like this.

My wife said the same thing when I cancelled sky, 2 years later and you wouldn't even know sky existed, and I'm at least £40-50 a month better off.

I don't know the technical jargon but they do connect (even if it takes an engineer 4 hours) but they're dropping out on a frequent basis. I'll get more detail tomorrow and post it in here. They do think they've found the fix though, due to roll it out on the 15th so you should be sound.

They've been working on Q for years but had major issues with the MINI boxes. It seems they rushed release rather than making sure everything was working properly. That's why the number of MINI boxes per household has been limited, they were designed to run more but everytime they do it breaks. It is the 'future' for Sky but it hasn't been a great start, take up has been a lot less than was anticipated. The guy responsible for creating the Q brand has left (he would've been pushed). They should've marketed it as UHD being the main thing. Instead they went with some shitty advert that had ink coming out the TV and merely said Sky Q at the end, didn't say what it was other than some cliche about fluid vision.

The one really good thing about it is you can access your planner even if you're out the house. Problem is the planner is shared so you'll have to be careful with what your kids might have access to. Dunno if you can parental control, presume you can.

If I'd paid a lot of money for it I'd be a bit pissed reading that, but at only £60 I'm not too concerned, especially if they manage to fix it by the 3rd of October, which is my install date. If not I'll simply go back to standard Sky. I'm not at all concerned about there being issues with more than one mini-box, that's the most I'll ever run.

Not Sky Q, but our Sky jumped from our 12 month contract price of £21/£22 up to about £45 again, so it got cancelled.

Sky phoned up last Friday and offered the same package (sports and movies) at £30 a month. We said we'd meet them at £25. The guy then came back and said he'd do it for £19/month, which we found weird because it was less than we said we'd be willing to pay.

Anyway, £19/month for sports and movies (never even watched a movie on Sky).

If you're paying silly money for Sky, you're doing so because you can't be arsed to sort it out IMO. They're probably one of the easiest companies to get money knocked off. You probably do get a bit more leeway if you've been with them longer. Got a guy at work who's paying £90/month with Sky Q and HD!

I don't have movies or sports, but my monthly cost is a pittance. The £60 one off fee for Sky Q was paid for mainly to have access to all the recordings elsewhere in the house.

People can make all the claims they want about Sky. But when it comes to ease of use for HD content, and the ability to record that content, they're the easiest out there and it's worth £15 a month for that for me. I have an Nvidia Shield TV for my Kodi streaming, but for terrestrial and box sets, Sky is still fantastic. Their free on demand content is improving all the time too.

Their on demand is improving because they are starting to realise people don't want to pay for hundreds of channels full of meaningless programmes at set times, people want to watch what they want when they want (and not pay extra because one programme is on Sky one and another is Sky Atlantic +7 HD).
The sooner Sky and other big broadcasters especially those in the US realise this and offer services to rival the likes of Netflix the sooner TV will be better for the consumer.

Regardless of why it's improved, it has done. If you have movies on your subscription, in terms of content amount, on demand on Sky more than rivals both Amazon and Netflix now. The main downside is that, like Amazon, some of it is still chargeable where as everything on Netflix is free. But Netflix in particular has it's own issues, namely that UK content is limited. To take it to the level it's meant to be at, you need to use a VPN or DNS service, which can lead to bans.

Which is basically Sky Q. Sky also don't consider Netflix as a rival, not sure if it's on already but Netflix will be available on the Q box as an app in the near future.

I was on the phone for about 40 mins when I was cancelling sky, they were trying to argue that I wouldn't be able to get what I want from netflix and I would miss watching TV shows the day they came out, or there isn't enough content, its too limited and in a couple months you will want sky back because you have run out of things to watch.

2 years later and there is still more than enough stuff on Netflix that I haven't watched not to mention Amazon prime and I don't use a VPN with my box so only have UK netflix. You can't miss what you never have, for the price you pay for Netflix and others than is more than enough for the average household to watch without having to get ripped off for Sky TV (plus HD, plus Q, plus multi room and whatever else they now charge extra for). I would say 95% of our viewing is either freeview channels, Netflix or Amazon, very occasionally it is illegal streams.

Yes Sky maybe easier and may have more, but are you really getting the moneys worth from it, compared to what you could pay? Not in my opinion, and like I said above my wife wasn't happy about cancelling it either and would miss loads, but her opinion has been changed too.

So I stand by my first post, that you don't need to pay for the privilege to be ripped off by sky. The only thing I would consider worth paying sky tv for is to watch sports legally, but as I'm not a armchair football fan its not for me.

Each to their own. Like I said, for me £15 a month is a small price to pay for the convenience of what Sky offers, even without movies and sport. And that will only become more so when Sky Q is installed, presuming they sort out their teething issues with it.
