That was in 1990/91. Attendances in the Conference had been increasing since automatic promotion to the Football League was introduced before 86/87.
Leigh RMI had this loyal 16 year old fan, who went to every away match in 04/05 so no, they never took no away fans!

Farsely Celtic, Droylesden, Kingstonian and Fisher Athletic have to be up there as the smallest clubs ever to grace the conference

Tough to beat Trowbridge or Fisher for smallest.

Luton or Oxford for biggest.

Lewes are a bigger club now in the Isthmian than Fisher have ever been.

Bristol Rovers have done nothing of note to justify a claim of being the biggest.

Biggest for me is Bristol Rovers. Closley followed by Luton/Grimsby.

While of course we are small I think we are outside the bottom 10 smallest clubs for me

I would say Histon, Leigh RMI and Lewes are all good shouts

Here is the all time table.

http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/national-league/all-time-table

What about Redbridge Forest?
Love that all time table. We are the kings of this tinpot league. Looks like it'll be a while before anyone catches us even if we do drop out of the division for a few years! :2thumb:

Redbridge Forest merged with Dagenham to form Dagenham and Redbridge, so may not count towards being the smallest. Aylesbury United are another possibility.

Do I spy some bait here?
Aylesbury certainly haven't been one of the smallest clubs to play at this level. They've been in bad shape for some years but prior to that were a pretty big non-league club.

For those saying it is out of Luton/Oxford, surely Bristol Rovers fall into the same catergory?

Oxford and Luton have won a major trophy and played top flight football in my lifetime. Bristol Rovers have done neither, ever.

Tbf theyve both won the league cup. It's not the be all and end all but it's quite a significant achievement

I would say Rovers have te potential to be bigger than both of them, but on the field achievements haven't shown it yet.

As I said at the beginning of the thread, it all depends on how you define a "big" club. It's all so subjective and means fuck all at the end of the day. I'm proud of my clubs history but I'm more concerned about where we're going than where we've been.

There really is no contest for Histon as smallest I'm afraid. A village of 4000 inhabitants having a football club at step 5 in the pyramid, sadly only there because of the bankrolling. Didn't they also take zero away fans to games, I'm surprised they are still getting 200 turn up currently.

Sorry, for a moment I thought you were describing Forest Green.

Well the Ks are a long long way from being one of the smallest clubs ever to play in the Conference, either on their history or on their crowds. Sutton Utd are hardly any bigger than them!

Based on recent league placing then surely Tranmere have had the most time in the Championship + therefore are the largest club ? I would think on the same basis, then Luton are next. Of all the other contenders, Oxford, Bristol R, Carlisle, even Grimsby [who had a lot of time in old Div. 2] then on the same basis haven't spent as much time at that level ?

Aylesbury United were the first club I ever got taken to see, back in the Cliff Hercules era. I was only young but I seem to recall they had a fairly healthy following and a decent ground.

That's a long way off. Luton Town and Grimsby Town have played in the Championship more recently than Tranmere for a start.

K's are historically a mid to lower end Isthmian club. Not saying Sutton are historically any bigger (although in the last decade we've been far bigger), but K's were punching above their weight between 1998-2001, and despite their on field success' in that period didn't have a top 10 average attendance in the league according to http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attn/nav/attnengnonleague.htm

Yes, I'll never get those 25 seconds back

Redditch United and Runcorn Linnets also contenders for smallest.

Redditch hold the record for the lowest average attendance with 357 in 1980.
