The first one was front page news, now they are small sub sections in the local paper. They are always paid. Ron is many things but stupid is not one of them

I am sure he is in control of things but the Revenue will always charge interest, and more often than not surcharges, on late payment.
Also their patience is not infinite.

Considering he does this quite a bit there must some sort of benefit/cost saving in it. HMRC are a bit twitchy as soon as anything gets late, they want to take Cobblers out of business over 166k when they owe the council 10million. Petty

It isn't petty as they have government and taxpayers to answer to.
There is no benefit in paying it late if you have the cashflow to pay on time. Only if you have more urgent needs for a limited cashflow.
Also, the more often you are late the more aggressive HMRC become and the less accomodating they will be in terms of arrangements to pay.
As I said, a dangerous game.

Well it is petty, Cobblers are going through a very tough time right now and the whole club could be shut down for in the grand scheme of things is a very, very small amount, it's worse than petty, they are just being total arseholes it would cause them no bother whatsoever to wait till Cobblers sort out their current debacle but no they want to shut them down.

Us on the other hand yeah they can bring up these petitions we obviously delay payment quite a lot but we have astounding 100% record of sorting it out.

As someone who is self-employed and running a business, I don't see how you can argue that taking a business (which is what football clubs are) to court over a six-figure debt is petty in any way. If they want to rack up debts then they run the risk of being liquidated. It isn't anybody else's fault that Northampton are clearly running their business poorly, and nobody else should be made to suffer or worry about cash flow because of it.

Chasing debts is the biggest pain in the arse, and not paying them on time is a completely selfish way to operate.

would at least make the saga interesting.

although I think Southend are ok as long as it doesn't incur extra costs to HMRC each time they do this....if it does one day they will think up other ways, but guessing it does not.

Years ago someone owed me few thousand in business debts.

After using all the usual channels I found a firm of debt collectors. Our initial meeting was impressive.

Their business card had the pic of a clenched fist with the strapline 'We Don't Fuck About'.

I asked them what methods they used - 'Fear and Intimidation' they replied. Hired them on the spot.

Got my money in days (less 20%).

Same old, Ron Martin loves this games. I also agree it isn't petty, anyone that pays taxes - this is YOUR money Ron Martin and others in football attempt to not pay at all costs.
Part of this is on the FA as well, this country needs mainland European style football rules to deal with it. Ron hasn't been paying taxes until the 11th hour (or getting other people to pay for him, thanks Sainsbury's) for over 10 years now. If this was Italy, Germany, France we'd have been a non-league team on our second trip to court for not paying public money, you don't get a day, you don't get second chances. The whole saga that saw us not pay any staff for nearly a year would have seen the club demoted pretty swiftly as well. Yet here in good old England you can shaft as many people as you want for as long as you want.
