Another thing that really pisses me off is the assistant referee delaying flagging for offside until the passage of play is complete.
Absolutely nonsensical without VAR, in fact it has already led to unnecessary injuries to our players who (on occasions) continue with play.

Trevor Kettle is a good ref....for 70 minutes!

Somewhere in the game his brain will depart his head (through his ears?) and you have 20 minutes of incomprehensible decisions. Sometimes they go for you, sometimes against but it is a truly baffling experience whichever way it happens.

I do think we, as fans, often do not know the guidance the refs receive on how to act and what to clamp down on and what to let go. This causes a lot of confusion

My pet hates are where offsides are taken from (the offence occurs where the attacker is, not some random piece of grass) and throw ins which seems to be taken from anywhere other than where the ball went out of play. I grit my teeth and mutter to myself like a loon with a whiskey bottle and people look at me with concern...well, more concern than usual.

I used to referee and it's such an awful, thankless job. You miss things, that's natural and then you have to deal with getting constantly hounded the whole game. At times it's impossible to win. If you give a decision one team is giving you abuse, if you don't give it the other team will give you abuse. Cheating is rampant by players as well and not always possible to distinguish. I started reffing at 14 and used to get abused by grown adults and hated it, it's no wonder those that do make it to the EFL have big egos.

My key issue with referees at this level is just consistency, I can deal with them getting some decisions wrong. One week you will get a ref who will give absolutely every push, the next you get a ref who will let every push go. The other big one is timewasting, most refs just let it happen unpunished. If they clamped down on it early on in the game then it wouldn't persist. That lies with the FA, they really need to get referees together and sort out certain prominent issues in football.

You’re right about the FA and time wasting, it was the beginning of last season when they had this thing where the injury time reflected what went on, I remember having like 10 and 12 minutes (not exact but close) against crewe opening game of last season - it got dropped after a few games - so what’s the point?

Either do it or don’t, personally i was a massive advocate of it.

Yeah, I thought the ref in your recent game v us let perhaps too much go, but then I would have said he did the same for both teams, which is not so bad.

I agree with the timewasting thing, tell the captain the first time it happens that you're not going to stand for it, and if the team keeps doing it, book the next player who does it. If you have the backing of the FA to do that, you've explained it when it happens, there's no comeback.

They consistently bring in stuff and seemingly give up on them. Six second rule, only one player allowed to go over to the ref to stop crowding etc

Sam Allison will forever be the worst I have seen. He didn't even know the laws when he was reffing in the Conference yet the other day I saw him on the highlights reffing a Sheffield Wednesday game in the Championship with hilarious consequences.

As bad as they all seem to be these days, ive not see many worse than Gurnham Singh and Keith Hackett.

If you are too young to remember them, you should thank your lucky stars.

Trevor Kettle comes mighty close though

You lot should spend some time in the Vanarama North, experience some truly incredible levels of officiating there.

Not one but two clueless refs today. First one taken off ill we presume, replacement ref from the line so far out of his depth he needed a rubber ring and water wings rather than a whistle.
