If you were to start your opening day game now, what would be your first 11?

Just as a rough guide, and a bit of fun.

Although we need another winger, Bent can't really play wide so well.

That front 6 is incredible, but Derby are still very top heavy. Defence still looks very shaky.

Or more likely Akpan put into a midfield 3 with Cox on the bench.

Very pointless for us, as we've lost 12 players from last season and signed no one..

Yeah, you're exactly right. That front 6 could honestly destroy a lot of defences in this league however our defence could probably be destroyed by all the other teams' forwards.

Why have Osbourne in for Williams who played in a settled back 3 throughout last season?

A pointless exercise for us well, signed no-one, and let W Elliot and JET go.

Probably. Sandro isn't even allowed in the country :ffs: and I haven't seen enough of the Swindon pair to judge.

That shows, with Caukler likely to leave, we really are fucked in defence. Again.

We're still waiting for renewals from Glenn Loovens, Chris Kirkland and Chris Maguire with the latter seemingly unlikely to sign a new deal. So with that in mind this is what we'd probably go with.

GK- Westwood

CB- Lachman
CB- Lees
CB- Dielna

RWB- Vermijl
LWB- Helan

CM- Semedo
CM- Lee
CM- Hutchinson

ST- Nuhiu
ST- Bus

We have no wingers on the books currently, a lot of work to be done.

I think we may well see Baird at right back if we started with the current squad. Seems we may be after Yedlin on loan from Spurs though.

Martin will play behind Bent, and it wouldn't surprise me if we see a change of formation to accommodate the players we now have.

I heard we're going to be playing different formations depending on the style of team against us, so we'll probably use a range of 433, 4231 etc

With the looks of it at the minute a 5-3-2 or a 3-5-2 looks to be the formation we'll be using, signing another defender from Braga according to a lot of reliable sources and with Loovens signing a new contract we'll have a fair few defenders on the books, unless of course sadly Tom Lees ends up at Fulham. I know Hull City used wing backs the other year but I've never experienced us use it at this level, but its still guess work at this point.

That's what I'd pick and I think that's best suited to our players. However, Mick loves 4-4-2 so probably replace Bru and Sears with Fraser and Tabb on the flanks.

Like others above, bit pointless at this stage as we still have so much recruiting left to do, but if pushed would have to go with something experimental like this:

Stockdale
Calderon - Greer - Dunk
Bruno --- Kayal -- Stephens --- Rosenior
March
Hemed -- Baldock

The fact I've put Calderon at RCB and Rosenior LWB illustrates my point. Would be disappointed if any more than 7-8 of those are actually in our starting XI come August, though.

Assuming we start the season with everyone fit bar Assombalonga it would be

De Vries

Lichaj
Mancienne
Hobbs
Cohen

Osborn
Lansbury
Reid

Burke
Fryatt
Antonio

However, Reid, Cohen, Hobbs and Fryatt may all be dead, I have no way of knowing.

Ward, Mills and not much else in reserve....

Not expecting many changes to that if any at all! New CB most likely. And maybe harsh on Whitehead.

Williams definitely in for Osborne in that starting line up, as others have said settled back 5 who all played well. But not much point in this for us yet, hopefully the summer picks up interest soon.

Worse off than last season at the moment. Would hope for us to sign a new: GK, CB and CM for the starting 11 before the season begins plus one or two backup players. Would like to see Grounds replaced as well but don't think there's much chance of that.

If it was my team:
Grant
Christie, Keogh, Buxton, Forsyth
Thorne, Hughes
Russell, Martin, Weimann
Bent
What I think Clement would pick:
Carson
Christie, Keogh, Pearce, Forsyth
Thorne
Hendrick, Hughes
Russell, Martin, Weimann

Grant or Carson, I guess it doesn't matter too much. I think they're both decent 'keepers who suffer from confidence issues.

Buxton for me is our best defender, but I haven't seen Pearce yet. Keogh, I imagine will remain in the side regardless. I expect Shackell, or at least another, to sign before the opening day. Keogh has a fair amount of pace, covers a lot of ground and is a decent footballer - 80% pass completion, plus can play it long accurately.

Christie is a very good player who needs a bit of coaching. I was never against the previous regime, but I thought their handling of Christie was laughable. First 1/3 of the season he was our best player, so I'm hoping Clement and Peacock have a bit about them to help him along next season.

Forsyth is a tricky one; the things he does well, he does consistently. However, the things he does bad, he does bad consistently. He's an outstanding defender. He's statistically been the best left back in division for the past two seasons, but he lacks the brain. Ball retention when NOT under pressure is comical. When he's under pressure, he could find maddie with a pass. He's a bizarre footballer. I imagine coaching, perhaps, could help him even more.

Keeping Thorne fit is absolutely vital for our promotion chances - we've got a 72% win record with him in the side. He just makes us so much better because he adds structure to the midfield. Baird, I hope, can offer something similar for when he isn't fit. Bridcutt, I imagine, will sign too.

I hope to god Hughes is told to play a lot deeper. I just think he's wasted further forward. He has the ability to play there, but his strength is getting on the ball and creating space for others. When he's further forward, you lose that vision. Hendrick isn't my favourite player, and I'd look to utilise Martin deeper and play Bent than use him. However, I think Bent will be an 'impact player' for when we're fully fit.

Weimann and Russell on the wings for the moment, Ince for Russell when he comes in. When being the key word.

A lot is made of the defence, well, too much is made of the defence. When Eustace was in the side, a back five of Grant, Christie, Keogh, Buxton and Forsyth broke a club record for the most consecutive clean sheets. Without a defensive midfielder, along with a few injuries and a few position changes, we fell apart.

Albentosa deserves a summer to show what he can do, he was highly-rated in Spain. Pearce could flourish under new management. Keogh and Buxton are a solid centre half pairing. This is before we even consider Shotton, Rawson and even Baird.

I think a bit of organisation, coaching and confidence will see the defence through. Thorne alone will be a huge boost.

Despite having no fucking players, it's not an awful starting 11 at this moment in time.
