Difficult to call as we have a plethora of midfielders and centre halves but I think we'll line up something like this:

GK: Worgan / Mersin

Defence:
Bobby-Joe Taylor
Kevin Lokko (c)
Scott Doe
Aaron Simpson

Midfield
Jack Munns
Oscar Gobern
Michael Woods
Nassim L'Ghoul

Strikers
Alfie Pavey
Inih Effiong

Subs:
Will de Havilland
Josh Passley
Ricky Modeste
Jai Reason
Steven Rigg

Could be miles off the mark because the squad is looking strong all over. Think we've got a massive chance this season. Would like to have seen a more quality goalkeeper though, but time will tell if Mersin is up to it.
It's looking decent, but to me this isn't anything more than a mid table side. You won't trouble the drop but by 'massive chance' surely you don't mean for the title?

I mean for promotion, via playoffs. We're never going to have a top 5 squad because we can't afford it but this is better than we've ever had before IMO.

I'm not wholly convinced that's the case as I thought you had a very decent side the last time you finished in the play offs but I guess you'd know better than me. I could see you just about sneaking into the playoffs as you have a good manager at the helm, then from there there's every chance. There's a fair few sides who I could see sneaking in there and you're among them.

Last time we made the play offs we had a midfield of Chris Kinnear Jr, Liam Bellamy and Jack Parkinson, with Orlu sometimes filling in as required. This is comfortably more talented than that squad and far more balanced. If they work anywhere near as hard we're in for a good season.

I think if we finish in the top half that will be a success
just because we've strengthened doesn't mean other teams haven't too

Posted my starting line up prediction for Saturday in the pre season thread but I’ll throw it in here too!

Going off Sheridan’s preferred formation, pre-season performances and his favoured players I reckon we’ll start this season with this team:

GK - Luke Coddington

RWB - Jonathon Smith
CB - Will Evans
CB - Anthony Gerrard (C)
CB - Hayden Hollis
LWB - David Buchanan

CM - Robbie Weir / Laurence Maguire
RAM - Joe Rowley
LAM - Liam Mandeville

ST - Scott Boden
ST - Anthony Spyrou

Subs:
Jalal
Maguire/Weir
Weston
Yarney
McKay

Only changes that might happen to this will be Jalal for Coddington in net and maybe Rowley replaced by somebody a bit more defensive (hope not though). And for God's sake let's keep Weir out the team, the bloke can't pass wind. Think we'll miss everybody's favourite cricketing plasterer Tom Denton up top but the Mandeville - Boden - Spyrou triangle looks promising. Not sure why Sheridan wants to play 3-5-2 when we don't have a natural right wingback... but we can hardly play 4-4-2 either because we have no wingers. The joys.

From what i’ve seen Coddington looks ahead of Jalal in my opinion, but I guess we will see!

Can see what you’re saying with Robbie Weir, but I actually thought that when Sheridan came in last year, his form improved massively and when he played he helped us keep hold of the ball better in midfield than what we had been doing. Don’t get me wrong, he’s no Xavi, but he can certainly pass better than Curtis Weston, and he also doesn’t vacate midfield leaving gaping holes that many of our other midfielders tend to do.

In terms of formation, the 3-5-2 made us a much more solid unit last season, and tbf on paper we look to have an even better defence this year. However, it is very reliant on our front 3 to create chances and score goals as the rest of the players tend to just be far too deep to cause any problems for the opposition.

I do think Boden, Mandeville and Spyrou have the ability to cause any defence at this level problems, especially with the added bonus of Tom Denton off the bench so i’m Not overly concerned.

I do still think we’re short though of 2/3 good players to mount a serious title challenge, and think it’s more likely we’ll be in the play off hunt challenging for a 2nd or 3rd place finish. I’m happy to be proven wrong though!

As someone who has seen both play for us, Coddington is the better keeper. Jalal always has ridiculous blunders in him where he loses you a game that is under complete control. Saying that, he is of course a title winning goalkeeper at this level.

How do we (Notts) line up then after no fewer than 6 new signings today?

We've played 2 formations in pre season so not sure what we will go with but i'd guess something like

RB- Carrington................................................................ RWB - Barnum-Bobb

Dunno! We’ve been playing 3-5-2 in pre-season (mostly, 4-3-3 at York) but only have two centre backs still so surely won’t at Eastleigh.

My best guess for Saturday would be:

GK - Sam Slocombe
RB - Matt Tootle
CB - Ben Turner
CB - Pierce Bird
LB - Damien McCrory
DM - Michael Doyle
CM - Mitch Rose
CM - Jim O’Brien
RW - Nathan Tyson
LW - Enzio Boldewijn
ST - Kane Hemmings

Subs - Ross Fitzsimons, Zoumana Bakayogo, Dion Kelly-Evans, Andy Kellett, Kristian Dennis

That’s proper best guess stuff, but can’t see what else works.

i see us playing the 3 5 2 system away from home, as it offers us defensive cover and a good counterattacking threat

only change to your 4-3-3 position to me would be Barnum Bobb. Barton will get the nod as CDM and Summerfield will probably play instead of Young/Wright

bench from Oswell, Rutherford, McIntosh, Chambers, Wright, Young and Carra i guess

Hand them the title now. You have no chance against the might of Spyrou
I don’t understand why you constantly peddle this sh*te?

We as fans (me, mainly) may have got a little carried away last year after our strong start , and having never played at this level before it is understandable why we thought we’d go on and have a good campaign..

But we’ve learnt from that as a club and as fans and we’re much more realistic now. No chesterfield fan has come on here this pre-season or our own board for that matter and Harped on about how we’re ‘gunna piss this tinpot league’ like some of you lot are going on about on here.

We’re at home to Dover Athletic, we can be forgiven for expecting a win, just like fans of Wrexham, notts County, Fylde and other fans of teams predicted to be challenging for promotion would be.

It’s getting so boring now reading things like that every time we come onto this forum

Our record against Wrexham in this division is W5 D4 L1 so I'd be surprised if they saw us as an expected 3 points :)

We don’t see any match as an expected 3 points, seeing as we know what this division is all about having seen it all 500 times before.

Chesterfield fans have seemingly bigged up their crucial match against Dover at home as the ULTIMATE TEST of whether they’ve ‘adjusted’ to Conference life and a win will no doubt ensure the title is on the way.

I could easily see you shithousing a 1-0 win to be honest.

I think our days of proper old school shithousery are over under Hessenthaler but I think we've got a good chance of getting something, although Chesterfield are obviously favourites for the match.

Because it amuses me. Because you made such a big noises about how easy it was after your first three games last season . Then you left the forum as soon as Chesterfield started doing what everyone told you they'd do. And then this year you seem ebullient about your chances yet again.

My actual feelings about Chesterfield is that they have a chance, as you'd expect from a team of their size. You've got a decent looking team but you don't stand out as obvious champions. You also haven't got an absolute Shit house manager like you did last season (once again we all told you.)

Dover are a decent side, they are our bogey side though, we hate having to travel all the way to France to play at the Crab Hole.

I think the 3-5-2 will be reserved for our games against tinpotters playing 9-0-1 ; Maidenhead, Bromley, Fylde et al

2 changes from this. Passley in for Simpson and Rigg for L’Ghoul. Looks a 433. Surprised to see Rigg apparently on the wing

Hess has gone for more experience. Modeste-L'Ghoul. Worgan-Mersin. Rigg-Pavey
