Not surprised at all. He obviously got bored. Mansfield should be able to carry on and “finish” the job though.

Maybe after all his talk in pre season about getting promoted some doubt had crept in and Evans wanted to jump ship quickly to save face.

Maybe not though, as I still thought they'd make the top 3 before the seasons end.

Definitely not a disruption Mansfield needed, despite Evans being a massive dickhead.

He did a good job of recruitment although I didn't think he was the best tactician or coach.

It's a great opportunity for whoever gets the job. They will inherit a really good squad with plenty of depth and won't have to change much.

Are a middle of the road Peterborough side really going to benefit Evans more than a promotion on his CV??

He had something to build on at Mansfield and he’s given up it seems... strange. More than meets the eye or is it just greed?

They will be well suited to each other - Macantony, Fry and Evans must be the ultimate dream team. If I thought I couldn’t hate those fuckers any more, they’ve just proved me wrong.

* now praying to god he doesn’t rock up at the Abbey....!

You're forgetting that he did the same to Crawley back in 2012, dumped on them with about half a dozen games and promotion very close to move to Rotherham who didn't even make the play offs.

Thing is, MacAnthony wants a winner and Steve Evans is a winner. He needs a dumper truck full of money to achieve those goals, but he is a winner. So it's no surprise MacAnthony has pushed hard to get him. I mean, Posh are only 6 points off the play offs with games in hand. If Evans can get them going straight away, they could be dark horses to get promoted.

Evans has a long history of touting his name around for every job going. He does it at every club. It's disloyal as fuck but it's obviously working for him. He still lives in Stamford from his Boston days so it makes sense.

Leaves Mansfield in the lurch a little but with the squad at their disposal they've still every chance of finishing in the top three. I do look forward to the posts from the Mansfield fans saying they hated him all along though, despite not saying a word while he was in charge. It happens at every club.

I'd go for Uwe Rosler if I were Radford. He's another budget manager(see Brentford and Fleetwood) and I know his tenure at the latter didn't end so well, but I think he'd be a good pick up for this level. Also reckon if you can tempt Warburton down this low, he might not be a bad shout.

Aren't they close pals as well, sure I've heard Evans wax lyrical about MacAnthony before.

Evans did the same to us in our promotion season from League 2. He left us for Rotherham.

We were lucky that we had Craig Brewster to see us over the line. Wished we had kept hold of him as we then went for Sean O'Driscoll in the summer who left us before the season even started and then Ritchie Barker who after a season and a bit decided that boring the pants of everyone was the way forward...sorry, sideways or back. Never forwards.

I'm presuming Raynor is leaving too?

Right then The_Viking_Magpie and Impish can I join the we hate the odious fat bastard Evans fan club now?

More than welcome Dick. You always flew the flag I felt, you merely pulled it down for a year. Very admirable what with your club allegiance but I could see it stuffed away in your shed my friend.

He really hasn't changed one iota since we despised him at Boston nearly 20 years ago. He and Kettle are the two worst things to have followed us out of the Conference.

Also, could this actually have a silver lining effect of further motivating the Mansfield players in gaining promotion?? Can’t imagine they are too happy he’s just deserted them.

As amusing as it is reading the reaction on scabsnet, Mansfield will be better off without Evans' antics dragging their clubs name through the gutter.

I agree. The next appointment is so important, anybody half decent should get this lot up.

I always thought he was a fat, fouled mouth tosser anyway ;)

I reckon we'll try to poach the Cowleys.
