Evans has a long history of touting his name around for every job going. He does it at every club. It's disloyal as fuck but it's obviously working for him. He still lives in Stamford from his Boston days so it makes sense.

Leaves Mansfield in the lurch a little but with the squad at their disposal they've still every chance of finishing in the top three. I do look forward to the posts from the Mansfield fans saying they hated him all along though, despite not saying a word while he was in charge. It happens at every club.

Not from me mate. Genuinely bought into him, I like the fact everyone from outside hates him, He created a seige mentality and it was doing us some good. Whilst no one likes his touchline antics he’s not the only manager in this league let alone the other to act like a bellend on the sides. If he had taken us up I wouldn’t have cared if he left, He was always going too but to do it 12 games from the end of the season after he’s had everything he wants from Radford and to resign too so not sure where that leaves us compo wise has just woken me up and I’ve realised what people have said about him was correct. Did I enjoy his time as our manager? Definitely, Shat all over the crap we served up for the last 4 years. Do I wish him well at Peterborough? Do I fuck.

In case you think everyone at Crawley was sad to see him go check out the players reaction at the time(see YouTube link above).

I agree generally with what Cranium said, Evans antics did start to wear on me I must admit, but I enjoyed his tenure and I really expected him to at least finish the job this season.

Seriously though, I can’t think of a suitable replacement at the moment, I’m sort of wondering if John Dempster (Youth manager/ former player) who is temporarily in charge might do well in the next game or two and keep the job or Radford already has somebody lined up.

Worth trying though!

The truth in all this is I genuinely believe the Cowleys aren't just at Lincoln for the money offered, the difference between DC and Evans is as wide as his waistline. SE has shown little empathy for anything other than his own gain and integrity isn't a word in his vocabulary.

He could see what empathy meant had he not eaten the dictionary because someone told him it had calories in it.
He was a bell end all those years back at Boston. Some things can't change.

It's unlikely but it's an option. If you were our chairman you could present this situation quite favourably. We are three points off the automatics with a game in hand, whereas you are ten points with a game in hand. If a new manager came in and secured automatic promotion for us, it's an instant promotion on the CV. If they fall short, there's another crack at the play-offs. And you could always have a go again next season if you completely messed up.

We probably won't go for the Cowleys (not all Mansfield fans are that keen), but I think if the chairman presented it like this, it might at the very least make them think?

Richard Craniums post sums it up for me. I brought into it, what else could we do? It was something out of the norm from that shite we’d had for 20 years (Dearden aside).

Everyone can go back to liking us again now...

Nah, no chance. They turned down Barnsley the other week. They'll go eventually, probably this summer, but it'll be to someone like Ipswich not Mansfield.

As others have already said, he was always going to leave, it was just a case of when.

I didn't mind him despite hating him as an opposition manager. I know some of our supporters despised him. Some liked him but most tolerated him.

His pre and post match interviews were always amusing. Though it did wind me up a little with some of his touchline antics. In particular having a go at our fans and quite often not shaking opposition managers hands at the final whistle.

Agreed, also Mansfield fans genuinely ain’t keen on that option anyway due to the style of play.

All Stringy does say is it might make him think, to be fair.

An extra couple of hundred quid per week and if they're any good they can go to Ipswich? :animatedf:

The Cowleys have (or had) a massive release clause in their deals. No current L2 Club would be able to afford it and that's before their contracts. Not that I think Radford would even consider approaching anyway.

As for Evans, and as mentioned, he flirts around all the time with Clubs and has previous with this sort of thing so it's no surprise in that respect although I thought he'd see it out at Mansfield to be honest. Fry's been after him for years and years but I'm not entirely sure he suits the style MacAnthony wants from his sides either. That said, he's desperate to get back to the Championship (he always come across as feeling as though Posh should be there for some reason) and Evans is a winner and given the financial resources relative to the division you'd fancy him to get them there providing he's given the time, which they don't really seem to give.

From the outside, it never came across as though Evans and Mansfield fans got on anyway. More a case of Mansfield fans tolerating Evans because of results (although not earlier in the season when he was coming in for a bit of stick).

Leaves Mansfield well placed, though. The new guy just has to keep things ticking over as they are for the time being and not change anything.

Not ideal for Grimsby either. I'm not saying they'll be after the same managers but those better options on the list for Grimsby might now have turned their heads towards Field Mill.

Shrimpurh Not expecting it to be good but what’s your assessment of Phil Brown. He’s the name I’ve heard and he’s favourite already.

When he came to Mansfield I think most were thrilled despite what baggage he had, and how he was seen. We've obviously Improved on the pitch and results wise, but we do have a really good squad which JR has helped to fund. Most were realistic in that we knew he wouldn't be about long and there was no sense of commitment from him.

As time wore on his antics became quite tedious to some of us, and he regularly got
Into spats with the fans. Some weren't keen on how the club were being viewed by others and the treatment of some of the players.

I still think he would have got us top 7 at least and gone from there.

I can't actually say I'm that bothered to go, not to save face personally, but just that he was a cock all round and he used us a stepping stone. I guess most see him like this.

Whoever gets the job will have a great chance, but we MUST recruit correctly

Russell Slade is the favourite for Mansfield job so I've heard...... :animatedf:

Phil brown is the early favourite. Seems popular with the fans right now.

Rule us out of the top 3 though now

Even taking the Radford's into account, there's absolutely no chance Phil Brown would get the Mansfield job based on his wage demands when it came to the Grimsby one.

Circa £180k a year. And that's just him - no doubt he'd want an assistant, coach etc.

As soon as the Posh job became available he was always going to accept. Only lives 10 minutes from the ground apparently? Quite liked having him as manager personally. Didn't mind his antics he's just passionate and wears his heart on his sleeve when on the touchline. Also found it quite amusing on here with the banter about him and Raynor.

Evans was on 250k a year if you believe those who claim to be ITK here. Raynor would of been on a good wedge aswell.

Fair enough.

As an aside, am I the only one who's surprised his resignation was accepted? I mean, surely you'd have been better holding out for some sort of compensation unless it's been done behind the scenes with writing off any payments due on Angol, for example and/or Miller's wages. Something like that.

Phil Brown was after jobs that were in a higher league than Southend. It would take a lot of money to go below league 1 even if it is a more northern job. - which he's after.

I am in total shock folks. I can’t believe Stevie (as he’s known by some) and his ginger puppet have left. I just don’t get it , not after spending all of someone else’s (Radfords) money on (nearly) all the players he ever wanted.

Saying all that , maybe it’s not a surprise he guaranteed a move up a division, moves to a far bigger club, his inherits a more talented squad at Posh, he gets an even richer chairman to fleece and now managers a club with 4 stands aka a proper ground.

What a beautiful morning in Hakone
