Luton have 'parted company' with John Still this morning. Think the players have to take some of the blame, their defence is abysmal.

The games I've seen its just basic mistakes. Can't plan for that.

when you appear not to be motivated or not concentrating its whoever is managing you that has to
monitor the performance and be proactive, not reactive !!

:( It was good while it lasted.

They might actually be able to win some games now.

"Mutual consent" is the official line rather than sacked, whether that's just a face saving gesture is anyone's guess.

Every defender in the squad is a John Still purchase/loan. Moreover, John Still is our defensive coach!!! Per his own words, he trains the defense three days a week. Any problem with the defence falls squarely at his door.

Seems odd it didnt happen on Monday if they where going to do it. Would have thought a lot of discussion has been had about this by Sweet et al though so perhaps that explains it.

Probably the right call i think and not like some of our previous sackings where we haven't given people time to turn things around or turned on a manager after a few dodgy results. We've been poor for a year now, but gave him significant backing to bring in his squad over the summer and been patient when at the start of the season we could have called time on it and it still hasn't yielded improvement in either performance or results.

Just seemed to me recently that we had run out of ideas and I've got to the point now where I dont think he had what it took to turn results around and for the better part of a year he hasn't done anything to show otherwise.

A tad sad it has ended this way as I will always be grateful to him for coming in at a very desperate time and transforming the club from a club that was surrounded by negativity to one hat was positive and forwarding looking. Good luck to him in his next venture whether that be retirement or something else. I hope it all ended on good terms and we'll still see him around from time to time.

100% the right decision, should have been made a couple of weeks ago in truth. Still, I'm pretty gutted it ended this way as I have a lot of respect and affection for the guy left over from his first 18 months or so in charge.

Really weird to sack him on a Thursday though, if the Northampton defeat was the final trigger then why the long delay?

I'd guess they decided after the game but the terms of severance etc needed to be addressed before it was announced. Guessing it's not come cheap.

So who is going to replace him - Pep Guardiola or Richard Money:dk:

In the short term - Andy Awford, which I'm sure the Pompey fans will find amusing.

No idea who we will target longer term. I always felt like the plan was to groom either Awford or Hakan Hayrettin as Still's long-term successor, but neither seem like good candidates to me and Still leaving sooner than planned will surely mean we look to appoint externally.

Will Luton have Money to spend or will they Butcher the process?

I hear there's a Stein around Flitwick.

No idea really but maybe one of their (Newells) old boys?

Maybe Newell? He's coaching at Accrington (I think) at the moment and he didn't do to bad for you. A political sacking if I remember right.

Mike Newell tried to sue the current owners of the club, who (allegedly) compiled a massive document of evidence of his inappropriate conduct during his time at the club in response. The relationship between the owners and him is horrific. He's the absolute last person we would dream of appointing.

Can't they just all be friends??

Genuinely gutted that John has left but I think the right decision has been made - the last two home games (well our home form in general) were horrific and to concede 4 times in consecutive games is clearly not good enough. The players, like at Chelsea, have to take a long hard look at themselves.

Perhaps Luton have someone lined up to take over fairly shortly? Hence the Thursday sacking.

Graham Alexander 25/1 chance to be next Luton manager. That wouldn't shock me... well out of the list of names on Oddschecker.

We've just put a (fairly tinpot) internet advert out inviting applications for the job so I doubt it. Keeping the whole backroom staff on suggests to me that Awford will be given a few games at least.
