Seems a well thought out appointment by an experienced (now) 2020 Board - although most will clearly know little about him. Watch this space. Lets hope he's there for the long term and takes us on to the next stage and builds upon John Still's foundations.

I've never heard of him either. Apparently only had an interview yesterday.

Don't know much about him but is the type of manager I was hoping we would go for so in a way I'm glad I've never heard of him.

Hope he gets time to put his stamp on things, I'm not expecting us to start ripping off wins from the word go.

Also must be a first for us that we've got a manager with a Twitter account. That might get interesting if things go south!

Yeah it's a bit odd that he's on Twitter (in a fairly normal, non-official way), might not be the best idea now he's gonna be (largely) responsible for a club's fortunes.

Hope he does well, anyhow. Intelligent young (ish) coach who has an air of someone who'd make a good manager, though obviously you can never tell until they get a crack at it. Speaks very well and has boundless passion for the game, think Luton fans will take to him.

Seems like a good appointment, but as Costello says you never can tell until he's given a chance. Streets ahead of Calamity James.

He was a steady left back for Yeovil and Brighton.

Been an assistant for quite a few years at Brighton now under the last three managers I believe.

I'd prefer an appointment like this to David James, as always when a coach/assistant decides to make the step up you wonder how good they will do.

He has a decent enough team on paper to start off his managerial career.

Also knows Mackail-Smith and Paddy McCourt very well, will be interesting to see how they are used under Jones. Hopefully got some good contacts in the game for a few loans too (he worked with England u21s in the summer which can't hurt).

Full press conference tomorrow morning where I expect the backroom staff situation will be explained. Fully expecting a total or near total purge of Still's team (Terry Harris was supposedly telling the away fans it was his last game on Saturday).

Purge has begun - Terry Harris and Hakkan Hayrettin both released from their contracts. I would expect at least Harris will show up at Dagenham soon enough.

His first run of games in this country came at Southend, decent lower league player for us, player of the year in 1999-2000 and has his name in the history books as the last goalscorer of the 20th century for Southend, only ever scored 2 goals as well! Started coaching while he was still playing at Yeovil, seems he has been a very popular figure at Brighton as his name was always one of the first put forward when they have had a managerial vacancy.
Always spoken very highly of Southend and his time there so I wish him all the best at Luton. If he proves a success I'll be hoping, like Justin Edinburgh, that he might return to Roots Hall one day.

I should hope that they weren't paid off, or will only be paid up until the point they start a new job... at Dagenham.

I think they were only contracted until the end of this current season so hopefully not a big deal either way.

I thought NJ came across very well indeed in his press conference today. Sounds like we won't be making big moves in January as expected, so it'll be interesting to see how much he can extract out of the group that let Still (not to mention the fans) down so badly thus far.

John Still was contracted until the end of next season. I'm guessing Harris and Hayrettin were on season-to-season contracts.

Kevin Nugent has joined Luton as first team coach. He was most recently assistant manager at Leyton Orient.

Kevin Nugent has joined Luton as first team coach. He was most recently assistant manager* at Leyton Orient.

*Interim manager who was then bumped down to some sort of coaching role when Marcello Donatelli and then Andy Hessenthaler were brought in. He was also - allegedly - on wages higher than most of the first team.

Surprised that Ian Culverhouse was brought in rather than Terry Harris. As far as I'm aware, both are still out of work.

Warren Hackett I think was sacked by Dagenham when Still came in, but one of their coaches remains. Perhaps they couldn't afford to pay another one off.

Still signed Currie as a player so I'm guessing they get on relatively well, Lee pointed out to me that Still released Hackett as a player at Barnet back in the day, however, and the two have never really seen eye-to-eye. Best all round that Hackett has gone really.

He's tremendous at putting the cones out before training, nodding, and standing on the touchline with his arms folded. Classic assistant manager.
