He also said that after Spurs spent 100m, they have to be challenging for the title

Unfortunately none of the media have had the balls to call him on this comment.

Also... Rodgers insisted that 5th was "par for where we are" and now they've come 6th. He doesn't help himself does he?

Liverpool will have to play a Europa League qualifier at the end of July now.

Not if you lot win the cup.

Oh shit. That's really annoying.

Presume you'd get the extra spot then?

Correct so hopefully you lot do the business against Villa.

Don't think I've ever heard of Liverpool being 5-0 down at half time ever. Don't think I've seen or heard one Liverpool fan say they want Brenny to stay on. Id be surprised if he still has the job in a weeks time

I'm not sure I understand.

Rodgers has done a lot in his managerial career to suggest he's a talented manager and an able coach. Then again, there's been quite a lot to suggest he's about as much use as a spunk filled sock. Is he a good manager? Is he shit? I just don't know.

He's great when he's got the third best player in the world at his disposal.

He's shown limitations more often this season rather than resolving his team's problems. If he stays on its make or break

So if Rodgers stays what's the minimum target for next season? Top 4? a Trophy? the title?

Considering the £100m+ or so spent in the summer, top 4 should be minimum

You can't ignore what he achieved at Swansea though can you?

You can't, but as Smally said he's spent a lot of money and brought in some right dross. It is up for debate whether he personally sanctioned all of the signings or not but he has to be blamed for the way the team have been playing, which is poorly.

Is there any truth in the these rumours of bananas getting thrown at Sterling?

I'm not sure Liverpool spending £100 million means as much as it might in previous years.

Let's not forget, the vast majority of that cash was spent purely to replace Suarez, which in reality is an almost impossible task. So in effect, after they spent the first £70 million, they'd broken even financially, and were still worse off in terms of their personnel. Nothing much Rodgers could have done about Suarez leaving. Plus then you consider the likes of United who spent just as much, if not more? It's not really a fair statement to say "they spent £100 million, therefore they should be doing better."

Let's also not forget that Sturridge has been out injured for most of the season. Again, something that Rodgers couldn't have changed but massively hampered him.

The one criticism you can make of Rodgers is that he didn't spend that money wisely enough. The large transfer kitty certainly didn't guarantee success, but they should have been able to do better than they have. Is that Rodgers' failing though, or is it a systemic problem with the way the club operates it's transfer policy?

All in all, I think he deserves another season, but if he doesn't produce the goods, then he'll be out quicker than you can say "Rodgers is out".

United did spend big too and they got top four which was the aim all season so you can't really say too much about Van Gaal there - the test will be next season for him. Rodgers augmented a squad that had finished second and lost Suarez (granted, that's a big loss) but big money was spent on some pretty average players. The squad isn't great but Rodgers still managed to get it performing less than the sum of its parts in my opinion. The football they played last season was brilliant at times, this season it's been shit at both ends for a long time now and he seems to have lost the dressing room, as they say. I can't see him being in charge come the first game of next season.

The only thing I will say in his defence is that the way Liverpool handle incoming transfers doesn't help the manager - the whole committee thing they've got going on. Having said that Rodgers should still be getting more out of that squad.

The team today:

Mignolet

Can Skrtel Sakho Moreno

Henderson Lucas Allen

Lallana Gerrard Coutinho

Centre mid playing right back. Gerrard a striker. Coutinho wide. I'm not surprised they lost looking at that team. I hope Rodgers carries on with nonsense like this but think Liverpool's owners will go hell bent on Klopp:sad:

Did someone have a fuck ton of money on 6-1 with Gerrard to score at anytime?!

The goals that Liverpool gave away were nothing short of shocking, and Gerrard's goal looks like he was being invited to go one on one with the keeper by the Stoke defenders.

What can you say players in premier league just respect Gerrard, truly one and only England Legend.

Think they just weren't arsed to be honest.

Rodgers has to go, it's simple. I was completely with giving him another season even after the defeats to United and Arsenal but the utter collapses against Villa, Palace and Stoke helped me make up my mind. No offense to Stoke, but no respectable club wanting to reach the top would keep their manager after yesterday's debacle. No way.

It looked that way on the telly to be fair but Muniesa pulled his hamstring as Gerrard ran through, he went straight off afterwards...........

Its the players that have gave up recently, thats what has caused the poor performances. Next season isn't far off, and they'll compete once again.
