The one fixture this evening. Originally scheduled back in March, it's odd how these things work out. Probably fair to say the winner (if there is one) stays up.

Some games being played regarding the team hotel, Saints were turned away on arrival at their posh Swansea based digs yesterday due to "a virus outbreak", and instead had to arrange last minute accommodation in Cardiff!

Heard about this on radio this morning, gets better that the public are still able to book at the same hotel.

As for game it should be a cracker.

With Swansea not having won and barely scored for quite a while, I'd confidently say Southampton would be getting at least a draw from this, but conceding an equaliser in virtually the last kick of the game at Everton (when a win would have meant a draw in this game would all but keep them up) can't have done much for their confidence. Will losing Yoshida through suspension also have a negative impact?

It's still not over for Swansea if they lose this, as Huddersfield have to go to Chelsea and host Arsenal in their last two games.

Yoshida is our most experienced CB so I'd imagine it will have an impact. Shows our failings in the transfer window that we've gone from having the likes of Fonte with either VvD, Lovren or Alderweireld to Yoshida being our main guy. Clear out needed from top to bottom regardless of the outcome tonight.

This is like a play off final. I can't remember a game that was so important to us that doesn't involve us! We'll likely need another point if Saints win, as Swansea host Stoke on the final day. Anything other than that would mean Saints would have to beat City to go above us.

Up the Swans

After watching the Stern John vs Sheffield United survival in the Championship a few years a go, I'll still believe we could get something against Manchester City at the weekend, but please get it done tonight and finally put an end to the West Brom fans talking about the greatest escape ever.

More drama...

On the back of the #SaintsFC hotel cancellation saga hearing that the police escort they were expecting to get from their new overnight digs in Cardiff through the rush hour traffic has also been cancelled

Team have arrived just ahead of schedule #SaintsFC

Though there was still a remarkable scene as #SaintsFC told they would have to wait on the bus for circa 25 mins as the Swansea bus unloaded. Mark Hughes just told driver to stop and led the players up to the ground on foot

As you might expect Swansea had most of the ball and chances but Austin also had a couple of decent efforts .

Still 0-0. Need to improve in the second half.

I actually think Swansea would be happier with a draw given the fixtures to come .

Mind you can they score - even against relegated Stoke ?

Bednarek possibly suffering concussion is a bigger blow than Yoshida's and Stephens' red card. (Didn't think I'd be saying that a month or two a go.)

Gabbiadini's a hero, essentially kept us up last season and may well save us this one.

I actually think Swansea are a comfortably worse team than Southampton on paper, so it's better off if they go down.

They could still stay up like I said above, but Swansea seem to have really lost their way.

Remarkable to think that at one point before this winless run started they actually had a higher points per game ratio than Sheffield Wednesday in the division below - I imagine many of their fans back then were questioning whether sacking Carlos Carvalho was the wisest thing to do, but how things have changed!

Well done Saints in holding their nerve and all but staying up. Just make sure you keep it tight against Man City and don't try to attack them like we naively did in September :)

Pleased for Mark Hughes, it went stale for him at Stoke (although I don't think he'd have taken them down, Paul Lambert is a downgrade) but he doesn't deserve to piled in with someone like Pardew. He's done brilliant to keep Southampton up, especially after the disappointment at Everton.

Swansea or Huddersfield then, can't see Huddersfield getting anything against Chelsea so it's a shame they're both playing against clubs with nothing to play for on Sunday.

Really can't remember the last time I was that stressed watching a Saints game.

Brilliant result! More exciting than a mid-table finish, but don't do it again next season please.

Thank God it wasn't too late for either of McCarthy (our player of the season) and Hughes to come in for Frankenstein and the clown.

Clear out this summer needed, and I don't mean our top players, Les.

So barring some crazy goal swing, that's Southampton saved by the unlikeliest of heros in Mark Hughes. And by a striker they've hardly used all season.

A lot of work required over the summer there, if they want to catch us :p Does Hughes get an automatic contract?

Otherwise it becomes Swansea / Huddersfield, so all eyes on Chelsea tomorrow.

Fair fucking play to Hughes, after his disastrous first game at West Ham they've really improved and he's had them performing in pretty much every game since then... they've been really unlucky not to have more points. I was hoping all the blows they've suffered would hurt them too much but nope, they deserve to survive.
