One of my pet hates are unfunny football nicknames, so I have used two of the 'classics' to open this thread.

I'm travelling west on Saturday, the weather forecast is diabolical, we were diabolical against Stevenage on Tuesday night, but conversely, our form historically against Vale at home is very good.

Vale are in a bit of a good spell themselves under Askey and will come to the County Ground in fine fettle. I have no idea how we will do as our home form is generally streaky at the very best.

It is our 50th Anniversary of winning the league cup in 1969 tomorrow so there will probably be some parades, ticker tape etc and a general positive feeling. So for Vale fans wondering what on earth is going on, its probably related to this.

For all those coming, safe travels etc.

Prefer Vale Madrid myself...

The last three games we have been a revolutionised beast from the dead and buried shambles prior... improved fitness, goals, chances, great football... Askey has done wonders but this is Swindon Away so means we will probably lose... heavily. We could sign Ronaldo and Messi and we'd still lose to Swindon Away!

If we can play the way we have been the past three games with the high press then we have a chance but three games of that intensity in 7 days is a big ask. If they can then fair play to them for their fitness.

Point would be excellent, however the carrot of a win which would all but secure our safety surely is one I hope we can somehow get... we are certainly due one here! Oddly i've only been Swindon once and that was the only win I recall there when their keeper let a big hoof bounce over his head and Cornes ran behind and slotted into the empty net.

Go for a cheeky 1-1 Miller Boy to keep the momentum.

My last ever game. Based on the, mostly, shite I’ve witnessed these last few seasons, I’m gutted to admit I probably won’t miss it too much.

Having seen the last 2 home games, and considered our decent away form, I actually think we might get something here for a change.

1-2 Miller and Hannant

I’m off to live permanently in Kefalonia next week. My nearest club would be AEK Athens or Panathanikos. I suppose I’d might come back for a ‘big’ game, but I’m essentially an iFollow fan now.

Yeah, lovely island. We’ve bought a place in Pesada, 5 minute walk through the olive grove to reach a private(ish) beach. Looking forward to it.

Bollocks to Brexit!

Interestingly a lot of people think we are from South Wales... Port Talbot and Ebbw Vale being close to each other in the Valleys.

Home win. Dreadful record here, although i was there when that horrible cretin cutely known as BOO did a strange handball to give us a 95th minute penalty to equalise.

In general though we lose.

Fancy us for a draw today, not a place we generally do well, and I should know as i’ve been about 6 times and only seen us score twice.
I’m already missing the gluepot.
But not the extortionate admission price, or that toss pub underneath the away end.

Only real talking point of note it seems so far is both teams struggling to cope with the conditions which sound horrible for playing football in to be fair.

Awful spectacle. Essentially Vale take goal kick, wind blows it back, Swindon get possession for a bit.. play a through ball... wind takes it goal kick and repeat.

We’ve survived our half against the wind so hopefully we can cope with it better behind us, probably one where we could of done with Pope and loading the box with crosses to be honest!

Swindon fans are being extremely harsh booing!

Sounds like the game has been a complete eyesore though Swindon made us have to dig in a bit second half but a very good point. Always view anything from the County Ground as a bonus given our record there.

Those playing conditions looked horrible though, a few images of the corner flags being blown almost horizontal.

Good point. Tough second half for us that although had the chance of the game when Legges header was somehow scrambled off the goal line.

Point closer to safety and still eight points clear with the bottom two having played easier ties.

Thought we looked absolutely knackered from the style we played this week in the two games with the high press.

What a send off these 2 useless fucking teams gave me. Thank fuck I won’t be tempted, or able, to attend any more games.

Oh, that Conlon is probably the most inept - and dirty - footballer I’ve seen for ages.

May be for the best, as you say at least it doesn't leave you wanting more.

Good for Vale there's no midweek fixture next week as suspect they need a little break now ahead of the Forest Green game given the effort that's gone into the last three games.

That midfield three looked knackered and Worrall and Hannant struggled to get up in support of Miller I thought.

It’s a great system and works well for us the new high press but the same XI doing three times in 7 days was a big ask, he should of make changes just after half time as we carried Miller and Worrall who looked done.

That said we had our best spell in the last ten minutes! Manny should of shot but took a touch too many and Legges header and the rebound just didn’t fall for us to tap in.

We are solid as anything away from home though, by far the best away defence in the league now (14 against) if we could just have sorted a goal scorer in the summer we’d be way out of the mess we’ve been in.

Hopefully we can add that in the summer depending on the ownership situation and keep players like Manny.

Either way if you’d said before kick off two weeks ago at Notts you’d get 8 points in 4 games, 3 clean sheets, outplay Mansfield and be sat on 41 points I think most Valiants would section you!

Bollocks to Brexit!

Don't know if your Brexit comment is serious but Greece is one of the most Eurosceptic countries on the continent.

A proud nation who are better than being ruled by the EU mafia, I hope they manage to break free one day.

Enjoy Greece, I'm sure it's nicer than Swindon!

Wellens comments have caused a chuckle from the local press up here...

Timewasting after 30 seconds??? The keeper had to keep re positioning the ball because the wind blew it! Didn’t seem bothered about an away side killing the game at Vale Park in the reverse fixture mind.

Swindon were positive? No shots on target??

Seemed to be trying to shield criticism with that outburst.

I have to say that your keeper was a total nob and it was almost like he was waiting an age for the ball to roll so he could reposition it and have another go. Funnily enough Vigoroux didn't have that issue in the second half, but we were trying to keep the game going to get the 3 points. It seemed that by making a little divot the ball didn't roll away in the wind as much, funny that! - that said, if we were winning, I have no doubt we would have tried the same tactic.

The game was tedious as hell between 2 pretty bad sides, the wind clearly had an impact but it was the same for both teams. We seem to have the least intelligent footballers you can amass as they were trying to play through balls/balls over the top with a 50mph wind behind them. Vale seemed to be more intelligent and work the ball through midfield, the number 8 probably your best player, looked like he could make something happen.

For us, Woolery was the only player who seemed to want to make things happen, his pace causing 2 bookings but whenever he would get into a good position he would either shoot wide or play a bad pass/cross and lose possession. Wellens really has yet to get the best out of our players and I think he needs pre-season to shape what he wants to do.

Number 8 is Manny Oyeleke...

We only lost one game he started up until Boxing Day, we didn't pick up a single point without him until late October and he was injured pretty much most of the horror spell after Xmas... no surprise now he is fit we have turned around our form again!

I thought Swindon knocked it around well, which probably suited the conditions better, first game I have seen where the corner flag is literally laying flat due to the wind!

For us although slated recently and dropped and allowing him to fully recover from injury the danger we did pose was all from corners so was crying out for Tom Pope and us to sling the ball in against the defence.

Yeah I agree, we were pretty panicky defending your corners, in fact you very nearly bundled one in somehow. Relieved we didn't have to face Pope. At Stevenage on Tuesday Revell bullied our centre backs, and I dare say Pope would have done the same.
