Forgive my ignorance as a backward Northerner, but why does everyone hate this Tamplin guy. Isn't he trying to get a failing team up and running again?

He's a crazy narcissist who hires and fires managers and players on a whim, tries to manage the team himself but doesn't understand fitness or tactics, shows blatant nepotism by chucking his teenage son into the team when he isn't good enough, and spends truckloads of money but incredibly inefficiently.

He's managing a team bottom of the Isthmian North but has spent more money this season than many step 2 sides while inexplicably failing to improve results. He just spends shit loads of money without any thought, all while behaving like an absolute bellend on Twitter while accusing everyone of being out to get him.

You could say the same for the Harrogate Town set-up. Rich guy buys a team and puts his son in charge of the team. Eventually they move forward.

Is what happens at Harrogate anywhere near as chaotic as what goes on when Tamplin is involved?

Harrogate are bankrolled sure but the people involved there clearly understand football and don't embarrass themselves on social media or have the budget of a club two divisions higher.

How can you look at all the evidence in this thread and think "he's not a bellend"?

It's not evidence it's just keyboard warriors who I doubt would say any of this stuff to his face, Deva Chat is full of them. I've pm'ed a few of them asking them would they like to meet me outside the Blues Bar, but so far none of them have taken me up on the offer. They are the bellends.

Er, a lot of it is stuff that he has said and done. He is a colossal bellend who seems to think that he has got what it takes to manage a football team.

He makes the players sing R Kelly songs and pays a dwarf to dress as a wizard.

And you offering people out for something they've written on a message board says more about you...

Harsh on Harrogate. If you've watched BT Sport's excellent film "The Gaffer", you'd realise that Simon Weaver started managing Harrogate two years before his Dad bought the club. Also, unlike Tampon whose contribution to football time-management was a kickabout with his kids in the garden, he's a good footballing man who started out in the Sheffield Wednesday Academy and is widely respected by his peers.

Are you joking?

I'm sure he is sincere but everything he does is the epitome of how not to make a club a success.

What ever happened to that Scunny supporter who thought he was the bollocks. He would start a fight in a phone box.

I've had dealings with him in the past. Now he IS a bellend.

I think this discussion about Tamplin has run it's course. Does he pay his way or does he leave a lot of debts behind him. If the latter then he is a bellend but what he does with his own money is his prerogative. Didn't he leave his previous club in a much better place than where he found it?

I don't particularly want a fight I'm nearly 70, but some of these 'kids' get in front of a keyboard and they forget the niceties of society and think they are Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The Chester 'Youth Firm' that greets away fans leaving the Deva is really quite amusing.

Nicely dressed but hardly threatening

Tamplin seems to be a bit of a lunatic.

However, if he wants to invest his time, money and effort into small local non-league clubs then fair play to him. He invested considerably at Billericay and now seems to be doing the same at Romford.

There have been worse owners out there who leave clubs in ruins when they walk away. I've certainly not heard that Billericay are on the brink of folding following Tamplin's exit :dk:

what he does with his own money is his prerogative.

Absolutely it is his prerogative. The issue isnt his bankrolling of a football club though (well, what sets him apart from other bankrollers) & more so how he's publically carried himself while going about it.

If you buy a team, sack the manager, put yourself as manager with little to no experience, sign 15 players, declare you're on a path to the football league in x years, lose, sign another 15 players, lose again (repeat ad nauseam) then you're going to cop a bit of flack & rightly so.

He's not being called a bellend because he is investing in a club. He is being called a bellend because he is acting like a bellend. If he didn't act like a bellend & kept his Donald Trumpesque twitter usage down to a minimum he wouldn't be getting this kind of attention & people wouldn't think he is a bellend, or at least as much of one as they currently do.

Talking of leaving early, didn't Tamplin go on holiday at half-time recently?

Thanks Paddy. I know all that really. It's just that a bit of discussion doesn't go amiss. I stayed in Romford 2 seasons ago for 3 nights for our match at Orient and believe me they need a bit of excitement there.

He's not really bringing the excitement in Romford though, not yet at least. At Billericay, fair enough, he won the Isthmian Premier (despite losing to us on day one of the season) & that is excitement if you overlook the fact that based on the squad he assembled that was really par for the course. Romford, however, he's not exactly set the world alight yet as much as he's set his bank balance alight despite making some pretty grand claims that make most of his time at Billericay look relatively normal.

Romford were dead and buried early season but have picked up a couple of wins recently. Not sure how many go down but even though they are still adrift, they do have plenty of games in hand.

Tamplin attracts and deserves some level of criticism for being a plonker on social media but as I said before, he doesn't seem anywhere near as bad as numerous examples of owners from other clubs and therefore a lot of the criticism aimed at Tamplin is unjustified in my opinion.

I suppose the nicest thing I can say about Tamplin is that he isn't in football to make money and isn't interested in bankrupting clubs for his own gain like many have.

Think you and I watched a different programme.

The documentary showed the sheer nepotism afoot. From the cringe worthy family pre match chat in the chippie (wonderfully cutting to Hayrettin who has to graft for his keep at his chip shop he also runs...get the feeling the production team had the measure of weaver, it wasn't complimentary at times), having his mum and dad travelling in the team bus to the point where it held up by son Simon forgetting to pick them up, the obsequious build up to meeting Sheridan, the fact that he keeps out of pre match build up thanks to his very talented assistant etc etc

The supporters (a small minority but not insignificant number of the pre weaver fans) don't go after some mouth opening shows of arrogance towards fans club officials telling some supporters to go and support another club, openly mocking a couple of fans, siding with a player who had a criminal past who threatend a fan in a car park and then at a service station....they thought it would be fine to out him on the front cover of the programme a few weeks later.....and many other examples. The fans are along for the weaver ride.

A ride that unfortunately sees the club as a subsidiary company of the house building company owned by the weavers.....sees the club lose around 500k a year with absolutely no plans as to what happens when the owner and debt vehicle support goes...he has openly said he is only there as long as daddy's boy is manager.

So no, it ain't good at all. We have had nearly ten years of it and latterly it's come good.... but at huge financial burden to the future of the club and a whole load of many years and cash wasted to get one promotion. All whilst daddy's lad learns on the job. And btw he was there for one season ore his dad bank rolling him and we would have been relegated had it not been for the AGM cup.

The club to me says a lot of modern society.....the rich getting unbelievable leg ups and tax right downs on a Ponzi based bubble fuelling their ability to be arrogant and wasteful. Blindly followed by many naïve and head down sheep, there for the easiness of association of success with feck all idea or care to bother what is fuelling their current bandwagon of choice.

Those that can see through this have seen the bankrolled bandwagon before. And it never ends well.
