On a Mac desktop, I have vertical lines across the screen and the computer freezes on occasion. Pic is attached, anyone know what it is?

EDIT: Ok, nothing shows up in the screenshot. There are 5 vertical lines that are green and purple.

Lines across the screen like this could easily be the LCD which would be far less serious. Plug the Mac into another display and see if the lines are still there, although if it's an iMac I'm unsure if that's possible. If they still show it's the onboard GPU chip as spireite says, unless you are running a Mac and are coming out of a graphics card, then it will be that. If you're using the onboard output it will require a system board swap which knowing Apple will likely cost the same as a new Mac. If there are no lines it's the monitor.

It's a big desktop, don't think I can plug anything into anything else displaywise.

It's still usable so if it costs money to fix I'll just continue using the broken one.

Small but iratating problem. I have to sign in every time I come on even though I've ticked the box to always stay online.
This has only been happening the last two weeks. Can anyone more tech than me ,that's everyone,knows how to rectify it.
