From my vantage point (Grylls style, perched on a hill watching camp) from up on Shinkjxi Mountain, it will be a miscarriage of justice if this is not the case.

This challenge involves betting on a Rat Race. The two contestants with the most money at the end will win immunity, which means a guaranteed place in the final five! The challenge ends when any rat reaches the finish.

Here is the race course:

As you can see, all five rats start at the start, and there are 20 steps to the finish.

Each contestant will take it in turns to pick an action. Turn order has been picked at random for the first round:

In subsequent rounds whoever went first in the previous round will go last in the next round.

You will have 2 minutes to act before timing out. If you time out an action will be selected at random for you. If you time out after 2 mins you will immediately time out from then on until you post in the thread. Unlike the goat challenge, I will need to update the race between turns so you will not be able to post immediately after each other.

On your turn you can do one of the following things:

Roll a dice – get £1

In each round there are five dice to be rolled, one for each rat. When you choose this option, one of the five dice that is left in play will be selected at random to be rolled. Each dice is numbered 1-3 only. The coloured dice selected at random determines which rat advances, and the number rolled determines how many steps the rat advances. Rat that most recently landed on a square is in the lead if there are multiple rats on a square (and will be listed first).

Once all five dice have been rolled the round is over.


Put down a +1 step token or a -1 step token on the track ( receive £1 for every rat that lands on it during the round).

If a rat lands on one of these they either move back one step or forward one step depending on which type of token was placed. During one round you can only place either one of these, not both. All these disappear from the course at the end of each round.

Some famous rats.

Take a “round” pay out card (RPC).

There are four of these for each Rat lettered A-D.

A* +£5 & -£1
B* +£3 & -£1
C* +£2
D* +£1

The first person to take a card for any particular rat gets card A and so on. Once these cards are taken, they are gone until the next round. The numbers on the left are what happens to whoever holds that card if that rat is in the lead at then end of the round. The numbers on the right are what happens if that rat is in last place at the end of the round.

Eg.

Steady takes RPC A for the blue rat.
Bottega Don takes RPC A for the brown rat.
Magic takes RCP C for the brown rat.

At the end of the round the blue rat is in the lead, and the brown rat is in last. This would mean that Steady would pick up £5, Don would lose £1 and Magic would neither win or lose money.

Place a bet card

Each person starts this challenge with 5 bet cards, one for each rat. These are for predicting the overall results of the race.

You can place a bet card in one of 2 piles. The winner pile is for which rat you think will reach the finish first. The loser pile is for which rat you think will be in last when the first rat reaches the finish.

If on your turn you want to place one of these, you say so in the thread but you don’t specify in the thread which rat you are betting on. You PM me which specific rat you are betting on. You can place more than one card in each pile.

At the end of the challenge, all incorrect guesses will lose you £1. I will take all of these incorrect guesses out of the pile leaving only correct guesses. The amount you score from a correct guess depends on the order I received them:

8 pts, 5 pts, 4 pts, 3 pts, 2 pts, 1 pt.

So if you bet the orange rat to win, and you were the first person to place this bet, and the orange rat went on to win you would score £8

If you bet the red rat to finish last, and you were the second person to make this bet, and it did finish last you would win £5.

If you also put in a blue rat card into the winner pile, and a brown rat card into the loser pile you would lose £1 for each of these.
