Add Accrington to this list. Coleman stating they are already over budget and they haven't signed anyone yet. Basically relying on aging vets like McConville and Whalley and praying for a bounce back year from a lot of them. Stick them in the bottom 6.

I don't see it myself, Coleman is a canny manager and has succeeded on a shoestring for twenty years. Accrington won't push for promotion but they're not basketcase enough for relegation

They've just been relegated for the first time in god knows how long. They are selling/releasing a lot of their better players. Who's scoring the goals? Who's providing the creativity, a few aging vets like McConville and Whalley? They get a few injuries and they are in big trouble.

I agree that I wouldn't say they'll go down, but the bottom 6/8 looks like the best they can hope barring a total surprise.

I said last season on the L1 forum it'd be interesting to see what would happen as 5 of the bottom 6 at the time hadn't been relegated for many years (and Morecambe hadn't been at all!).

MK obviously have been in this situation before so I'll exclude them, but it'll be very interesting to see how the other three adapt after a first relegation in a generation.

I can genuinely see all 3 in another relegation scrap. The drop in TV money and solidarity payments upon relegation (over £1 million) will hit the likes of Accrington and Morecambe much harder than it hit us last year. That's a certainty.

Can't be right, Bradford said all our signings are pants
To be fair some of the claims in that article are a stretch. Pyke having untapped potential? And players who spent last season playing for teams near the bottom of the National league (Conteh and Mullarkey).

Some interesting signings that could work out but probably says more about the rest of the league than the Grimsby signings themselves if they are rating Grimsby as having the best transfer business.

Based on that article everyone should LUMP ON Wrexham to go straight back down.

I think some are mixing up bringing in lots of players as being "good business"

We simply don't know yet.

Our business has looked a bit strange so far IMO, a few injuries we have to cover have made the lay of the land look a bit more obscure. Not really sure where Powell fits despite his talent, Chadwick looks a prospect who we may send out on loan and Touray is a good player on paper but think we maybe looking to develop him into a position he's rarely played (LCB) which may take time.

One thing I will say is no team really stands out to me as doing great business. Wrexham and Gillingham haven't got going yet tbf, I'm sure they'll have plenty more say. MK Dons maybe similar.

The experts (who all seem to come from Bradford amd Mansfield) have written us off. Back to non league where we belong.

One Bradford City fan said they didn't really rate your business but whatever.

I'm a Bradford fan and I also don't rate Grimsby's business. There, I said it.

Don't particularly rate Donny's either but theirs is better. Ironside obviously the exception and is a good signing.

I think fans (us included) all get swept up in this weird Twitter mentality now, it's always "what a signing", "HMS Piss the League" etc etc. When in reality it's lots of Division 4 teams signing Division 4 players who for the most part are at this level for a reason.

Stocky is right, we've no clue who has recruited well until a month or two into the season

Newport are going to finish bottom. It’s just a question of who joins them.

No chance, they were actually one of the more effective teams I saw last season. What makes you say that though?

Losing players left right and centre, the manager is complaining about the budget and saying they can’t compete with National League clubs, they have a big hole in their finances. They’ll finish bottom two for sure.

Already had that conversation elsewhere

I'm not saying it's bad, I just think it's overhyped, much like Grimsby.
I think with us it’s just making a refreshing change for us to be paying transfer fees for players and handing out 3 year deals as opposed to previous times where it’s always been free transfers and 1 or 2 year deals and of course with the increased budget comes increased optimism on our part.
I’ve followed this club long enough to always expect disappointment but there is just something niggling away at me telling me that this season is gonna be a very good one for us.
Could be bollocks of course but hopefully not.

I'm coming to the view that we, Morecambe, Crawley and Stanley are appearing quite fucked this season. What with the likes of Notts and Wrexham returning to the league, it seems almost like a Revenge of the Brotherhood and the potential return of the pre-neoliberal (i.e pre-1986) era, I mean, only almost, given half the National League are in one form or another ex-league teams, but near enough to give a supporter of "upstart" teams "punching above our weight" (Wycombe apart, I suppose) a bit of worry....

Crawley and Harrogate down. Chesterfield and Oldham back up.

FGR and Fleetwood the following season, Rochdale and Hartlepool up.

Nature is healing.

If it’s overhyped it’s on twitter not elsewhere. The only thing we are overly happy about is that most of it was done very early meaning McCann got most of his targets and we’ve had time to gel the squad together. Most of us feel we are 2 to 3 players short of a very good squad but unlike the last 3 seasons we will be competitive so there’s the optimism
