I'll start. Anyone here have contact lenses, preferably the monthly ones? Going to look into these and would like peoples opinions. Had the dailies, but they were a pain in the arse to put in every morning.

I do! Love them to be honest, had them for about 3 years now. They say they increase your rusk of eye infection and I have had conjunctivitis twice in that time but its possible I would've got that anyway and my optician didn't think it was likely to be a result of the lenses. Apparently if you take them out for one night a week it significantly reduces your chances of getting an infection. I do get more gunge in the corner of my eyes when I wake up though. Waking up takes a bit of getting used to as the lenses stick to your eye initially as your eyes dry during the night but blinking or gently moving the lenses with your finger will make it fine...and you do get used to it. Personally id really recommend them, if for whatever reason you need to shut your eyes for a bit you don't have to take them out and its just generally like having normal eyes again. And whilst there's less chance of them folding over or moving somewhere in your eye they shouldn't be it I still possible so try n watch yourself as it obviously costs more if you have to throw them away than dailies.

What age will you be teaching? Before knowing that, I guess not underestimating how low their level will be is key.

I went and taught English in Korea. I lived on Jeju - a small island ~50 miles off the south coast of the peninsula. For the first year I saw neither hide nor hair of a ladyboy, to be honest, the thought of such exotic man-maidens didn't even cross my mind. Then, all of a sudden, BAM! Ladyboy influx. I don't know why, maybe the prevailing winds changed. I don't think you can appreciate the true beauty of a south east asian ladyboy until you've borne witness to the phenomenon in the flesh. They are truly stunning. Often, i would be told that my inebriated self had fastidiously policed use of the gendered pronouns in ladyboy based discussions, such was my interest in their, unique position; "respect these people's choices", i would defend my drunken proclamations. The truth - "let's be nice to ladyboys, because they're really hot."

If you do want to think about staying out there, do you want to be working somewhere that the pay is sufficiently high that you can save a decent amount of monies? In which case you probably want to look at working somewhere in Japan/Korea/China. I don't know how SE asia pays, but i'd guess it's less - of course if you don't care, it's possibly a more fun/densely populated with ladyboys place to live.

Do you have a degree? If so it shouldn't be too hard to find more work I'd have thought. Do you have a TEFL qualification? I don't know if they are important if you already have a degree, but i guess they are if you don't.

And Cod boy is right again - those kids won't know shit.

Its a scheme run by the British Council for university students, unfortunately i can't stay longer as i have to go and finish my third year. I don't find out about the type of school I'm going to be placed at till the end of March either. If i enjoy it I'm definitely going to get some TEFL qualifications and get back on it after my final year. I never thought i would go with a lady boy but since i told all my friends about it they said i have to and they definitely would.

Not too much, but when I did it was dope. When my first little seven day vacation rolled around I didn't have much monies so my awesome k-friend took me and my Canadian buddy on a wicked little budget mainland tour. At the time we were sufficiently young that we could buy a special week long all you can ride train ticket (네일로) for ~W50k.

So we started in Seoul (saw the big palace in the snow, went to the border to look wistfully at the glorious north from afar), then traveled down the east coast stopping at Andong (to walk on a sweet wooden bridge all lit up at night, and had a wonder around that Hahoe village they have) and Gyeongju (to see that bulguksa temple and that seokguram grotto up in the mountains, and also that Anapji pond with the funky coloured lights at night) before finishing up in Busan. Busan was the tits man. We went and played on the coast at Taejongdae, and wondered around the Gamcheon culture village, and ate penis fish and oysters at Jagalchi market. One day we got the bus to nearby Tongyeong where they have a fuck-off cable car up to the top of a mountain - the views! Like a slightly less good Halong Bay. I think that was my favourite place in all of Korea.

I'm sure we saved a lot of money by going with a legit K-person able to source cheap love motel rooms and whatnot, but the whole trip was ridiculous value for money. Reckon the entire 8/9 days, food, transport, accommodation etc. came in at under W600k.

Do you live in/near Seoul? Itaewon is the only place in Korea I ever felt less than totally safe.

Jeju is worth a visit for sure. Lots of sexy nature stuff, lots of beaches, a plethora of weird tourist attractions and K-museums (I went to a place called psycheworld that had a bunch of dead insects in various tableaux, insects at the gym with little dumbells, insects at the park wearing scarves and stuff - standard weird Korean shit - but one of them, I shit you not, was an Auschwitz scene. Like, big Nazi beetles, torturing little Jewish beetles, and a totally deadpan information card to the side explaining what Auschwitz was). Pretty much everywhere is no more than an hour away by bus. And it's made of a volcano.

I had a ballerific holiday in Vietnam when I was out east too, I can understand the appeal. I guess the lifestyle probably wouldn't be as comfortable as the richer countries. Far superior food to Korea though, maybe everyone is just sick of pretending to like fucking kimchi!

What do you have to do as a TA? Like, you have any responsibility for lesson planning and stuff? Or, you just have to be white and handsome and have the correct accent? Do you assist another TEFL person, or a Thai teacher?

If you're gonna have a degree you might not even need any TEFL qualifications. I didn't.

Sounds like your mind is at least ajar and you've a healthy susceptibility to peer pressure. Don't come back without at least one ladyboy story. Don't let us down.

Re. the first quote: this summer? If so mate, I don't really see how you have the option of not talking to her about it. Her dad having 'months' and you booking your wedding for 8 weeks time seems like potential for the two happening very close to each other, to me. Other half found out yesterday her Dad has "months" due to having cancer. We were due to get married next Summer. I had already discussed with family members when I found out the news and have been given some financial help for the wedding, the deposit can be scrapped. I don't think she really wants to be discussing this at this time, so do I just book the wedding for in 8 weeks time or try and discuss with her?!

I reckon you should do it. Surprise her. Its a bit of a gamble granted, but she will want her Dad there. Once you have done it she can't feel bad about money, putting you out etc and just enjoy the fact her Dad will be there. That will mean the world to her. If you ask she will have extra stress the money and stuff at a time she won't need it. Plus, she will always remember you took the initiative and sorted it out so that her Dad could be at her wedding.

Condolences mate, I know how you feel, I lost my old man a couple of months ago and though we did everything together, I still feel I should have done more.

My daughter gets married next summer too and she was going to ask him to give her away, they were immensely close but it was so sudden no-one saw it coming. If we knew, we would have brought the wedding forward so that could happen and sod the cash. To be honest, given the circumstances and length of notice you are going to give, anyone who refuses to return deposits isn't worth dealing with IMHO.

I've got a ford mondeo 05 plate 2 ltr diesel and this evening the engine has started making what I can only describe as an extremely loud rattling noise... And I mean REALLY loud. Definitely coming from the engine because I lifted the bonnet. Not sure if it's related but also noticed when my feet were by the peddles something hitting them, but from underneath obviously..

Any ideas?

Not exactly looking for advice but has anyone on here ever been offered two jobs at the same time in different locations (both very good ones).

My situation is the following: I had an interview with a French bank yesteray in Frankfurt and they're happy to take me on permanently but I'll only be staying in Frankfurt till October until I relocate to Stuttgart for a couple of years. The bank is expanding and opening offices in Munich and Berlin so moving back to Munich (where I currently reside) or going to other sweet places like Hamburg is possible.
On the other hand, there is another company who is supposed to give me an answer this week about a permanent position in central Munich.
Then I have another interview tomorrow but it's a fixed-term contract. Fuck that.

Has anyone ever used any careers guidance services? I'm having difficulty finding ones that don't seem like scams, or are ridiculously overpriced. Does free online careers guidance exist?! What I want is to be able to send my CV somewhere, for them to have a look at my skills/experience and suggest some avenues that perhaps I haven't thought about exploring. Like I said, I've searched quite a lot on this so if you're just gonna Google "free/cheap online careers guidance" and reply here with some links then save yourself the effort as the chances are that I've already had a look. However, I would appreciate somebody who can give me anything solid to follow up/get in contact with.
