The fake rivalry aside, I genuinely hope for your sake that this doesn’t turn out the way it looks so blindingly obvious it will having had Hughes here. Horses for courses, get in a short term lower league manager with an experience of fighting to stay up, a L2 Allardyce, Hughes IMO is certainly not that man.
Hoping to not sound sarcastic but to me it’s a bonkers appointment given his tactics, nonchalance and ego when surely what you needed was someone who’s been there and done it. The bloke managed 400/500 Premier League games, wow you think that must carry across, there must be something that sets him apart, a superior knowledge to lowly football league managers, but no. Try and keep the ball is priority over a need to get forward and get a goal, generally in areas that don’t harm the opposition.
Will obviously keep a keen eye on how things pan out but I can’t say he is someone I would’ve wanted had it been the other way round or having seen how he was as our manager. I wonder if Harry Lewis will get a look in now.

This club may suit Hughes so will have to see his management was at its best when he used to be in the ‘against the odds’ type top flight manager doing better with poor average clubs.

Once in came to big budgets and higher expectations he’s failed, maybe the last gasp nothing to lose against the wall with little expectations may work for him

In the grand scheme of what was likely available to them at this point, that’s a pretty good appointment I reckon.

Would you want him at Notts? I wouldnt, he's left every club in as crap a position as when he started. Wales, Stoke, Southampton, Man City, Blackburn , Bradford. No success anywhere and always dull football.

Good luck to Carlisle , hope he keeps you up but looking from afar it looks like you've got invested owners who are being terribly advised and they're hurling cash at it.

Absolutely no option but to get behind him.

This is it. No turning back.

So true.

Doesn’t matter what the feeling of our situation is or what Bradford fans think, it’s all just about staying up now.

I’ll get behind him and I expect to see some improvements within the next few months. But this is the worst team I’ve ever seen, and I have no expectation of it staying up. He’s not a magician, he’s not going to turn water into wine in such short time.

We’re still 100% going down imo, but if he can gradually change the losing culture that is honking the place out, he’ll have done a good job.

Of course I wouldn’t, but we’re not five points adrift of safety at the bottom of the football league.

Just reckon of any realistic name mentioned, he’s probably their best bet of staying up. His record is reasonable over a long time and he’s got plenty of experience of relegation fights, albeit at a higher level.

We have to address both short term and long term issues and that is the tough balancing act.

Yes survival is an enormous bonus and it is possible, as mentioned on the radio last night all we need to focus on now is we are in a 3 team league with tranmere and Morecambe and at present all that matters is being above them two and not much else.

But we also need to re build things for next season onwards, regardless of league…..home form is for me the number one key issue, I struggle in 35 years to remember a club ever with as atrocious a home form as Carlisle

If you go from start of last season we have won only 5 home matches out of 37 and 24 have ended in defeat. Don’t leak many goals but only scored 31 goals in that time.we have taken a massive total of 23 points out of the last 111 available at home.

We need home form sorted we need to turn more defeats into draws we need to score more you can argue on one hand these need short term addressed but I also look at it this just in general needs worked on and if slightly longer term so be it

He appears to have won over a few of the disgruntled fans since the rumours of him first appeared. A good sleep, a moment to reflect and things can look different. He wasn't anyone's first choice but he's the choice we've made. Right or wrong that debate needs sidelined. Got to buckle down and hope he can conjure something up. It's our final shot. A slim shot. At least there's one last bullet in the gun yet to be fired.

I like Hughes as a person, but I can't see this being a good appointment for either party.

Time will tell.

I’d say you’re envious of us being able to afford a high profile former Premier League manager who you lot can only ever dream of having.

Clever appointment from Carlisle this, idea obviously being to make the opposition players fall asleep watching side to side turgid rubbish so Carlisle can then walk the ball into their net.
Excellently played.
