10 mins cameo appearance on the last day of the season......no thats not the criteria of a good player
yet comley as had a better career than khan thus far.
Declan John is the best left back in this league and will be in either lge1 or more likely the championship next season
I keep seeing this - Chris Hussey shits all over Declan John

Think everyone just claims their players are the best without knowledge of half the competition.

I'd say Bolton have an argument on reputation. Other than Tranmere I can't think of a squad of players I'd recognise so many of (from higher leagues/ FM). Doesn't mean they're the best and it certainly isn't looking that way. Think Lee, John, Dapo, Williams, Maddison in Jan has added strength but we're still not blowing teams away.

In John, I'd imagine he's looking to get his career back on track and will play higher than league 2 again. He's still young enough to get back to where he was.

I think it's impossible to tell who is the best player at a certain position as you see other teams play twice a season.

The only one you could figure out would be the best striker based on goals and even that can be misleading, Mullin is the top scorer but I would take James Vaughan over him any day of the week.

Think this thread should maybe now be renamed to just 'the promotion thread'.

It was a bit of a joke when I called it 'The Bolton (promotion) thread' because we already had a relegation thread called 'The Bolton (relegation) thread' and it was kinda funny associating Bolton with both these threads as they'd gone from promotion favourites in the summer, to relegation threatened in the early part of the season and then to mid-table. But now the relegation thread has been replaced with a new relegation thread that doesn't reference Bolton, and Bolton are now actual promotion contenders I think a lot of people are reading the thread title as meaning this is the thread for discussing Bolton rather than the thread for discussing promotion.

Think the thing with talking about who has the best squad too is you're talking about who is better between players who've only made a handful of appearances this season. Who can say who is better between Bolton's reserves and Cambridge's reserves?

Yeah it's basically impossible, other than at the end of the season really.

Style of play will impact players too. Doyle has been good for us, but his scoring record was better for Swindon. Swap him with Mullin/ Vaughan and I'm sure they'd all have different totals at each team.

To judge our current squad on the season doesn't even make much sense. Probably similar turnovers at other teams too. Our first game squad, we have 5 who have left the club and another 5/6 who don't make the matchday squad now.

Brandon Comley has played in the Premier League... that's the criteria for a good player right? Otis Khan has never played in the Premier League therefore Comley > Khan
Otis Khan played for us - so obviously he's the better player

I could agree with you but i suspect a team of
Jenson
................
Brockbank
Jackson
Delaney
Edwards
........................................................

Maddison
Lee
Tutte
Sarcevic
Politic
Miller

subs

Alaxander
Greenidge
Darcy
Graham
Arthur
Comley
Locket

None of this team played last game.......Think they would turn Cambridge over

Thats your view.......my view is that is a way better team that went to Cambridge earlier in the season and for a howler from our keeper would have come away with 3 points

Doesn’t really matter who has the best squad on paper, ours on paper is one of the better ones but means sod all when on the pitch it’s rattling around the lower reaches.

If Bolton finish 12th it’s irrelevant how good it is man for man.

Notts Co on paper had a very decent squad and was favourites for the title and went down.

Cambridge squad is fairly average on paper but performing well, if they win the league as a “team” it’s better than the other 23.

You gets teams better than the sum of their parts and massive under achievers.

Football isn’t a sport of individuals it’s a team game and how that team gels and works together has as much impact as the individual talent.

A sensible reply.

To be fair - my post was tongue in cheek and to get a rise out of Masi.

To us as a club, Chris Hussey is arguably our best player, certainly we struggle more without him than anyone else. However, as others have said, including Holty, none of us can truly judge based on a couple of views a season.

Otis Khan is a decent lower division left winger/attacking midfielder who has discovered he can play as a right wing back.

That's one mark against Tranmere, anyone else's reserves embarrased their club in such an egregious manner?
It was an accident. We didn't mean to do it but our opponents kept conceding goals and not scoring.

At the stage now when I'm starting to think that if we dont get anything from our next two games we can relax for the rest of the season, play the kids and get ready for Bolton's promotion celebration in May.

First match since our return that we can't really use the postponements as an excuse. Previous games we looked badly lacking in match sharpness, and they were also against good teams who would always be difficult to get anything against.

Today was against an Oldham side who have some good attackers but other than that weren't particularly good and certainly didn't take the game to us (not until the last ten minutes anyway), and we didn't look at all like match-sharpness was our problem. We just looked demoralised, you know where losing has become a habit and as soon as they equalise from the spot, the Carlisle players are just 'here we go again'.

We have negative momentum now, and that will certainly be difficult to address with matches every Tuesday, which also eats into our training time, and although we aren't threatened with relegation at all, Chris Beech's job becomes similar to when he came in last season and had to sort things out.

I can't see us making the playoffs, but at that same time it's important that we don't just slide anonymously into the bottom half.

Anyone want to discuss my view that Bolton have the best squad
I never said best 11, but as the substitutions have come off the bench and won us the last 4 games

I had Carlisle down as my dark horses in the summer, but I quite fancy Forest Green to win the league.

My predictions are usually miles off, but I'm liking the look of this one.
