You didn't get that in the premier league. You won't get it now.

Didn't they take 66 fans to Spurs or something once?

Big bump. Well this is finally happening. Deal agreed and down to EFL approval and HK Stock Exchange approval. Glad I got to shake Uncle Dave’s hand last Saturday. Legend doesn’t do the man justice. He took our wildest dreams and made them reality and his era is all I’ve ever known having supported the club from 1999. Of the twenty three seasons he’s been owner, I’d say only three could be considered a failure. To say the new men have big shoes to fill would be a colossal understatement.

On a serious note I wonder where Wigan would be if Dave Whelan didn't break his leg against Wolves in the 1960 FA Cup final. The compensation package he received from that game helped him on his way to creating JJB and taking over Wigan Athletic and Wigan Warriors. Funny how small instances like that can create your history.

So basically, without us, Wigan would be in non-league still :bdick:

Quick update, the new owners have released details of the deal publically to the stock exchange as per the rules. Deal includes the club and all the bells and whistles that go with it, DW Stadium, Euxton, vacant building that used to be a chippy/restaurant right next to the ground etc. They’ve deposited money in the club so we can get on with our summer business and plan to have two “British based individuals with the required knowledge of English Football and running a club” on the board. My guess is one of those will be David Sharpe who has clearly indicated that he’s desperate to stay even though the club will no longer in his family’s hands.

Best thing to happen to us in my lifetime.
You bagged a multi billionaire conglomerate with one of the most connected football agents on earth in their back pocket and fair play to you. We’ve bagged a group of chancers without a fiver to share between them led by a casual poker player. They’ve got no clue about football and acquired the money to buy us via a bank loan because they’ve got none of their own. Only one way this ends and it’s not well for us!

Just seen this.

Had no idea about these guys and presumed the take over was a good thing for you lot, surely the EFL tests have got to look into sustainability, rather than just the initial purchase?

I’d disagree if that were my club. LTFC are run by genuine supporters and have the best interests of the club and the community at heart. They have committed £40m into the operational side and for land for the new stadium project. Continuously they back the manager and give him money to spend every transfer window. We have some of the best directors in the country in my opinion.

Have they paid the creditors you rinsed with your stints in admin?

Since when have the EFL ever been reliable over anything? But of course they’ll come down on us like a ton of bricks if we can’t pay our bills in 12 months time.

Takeover voted through by IEC. Will be officially completed and I assume announced next Wednesday. Sharpe to resign as chairman with his brother also leaving the board. First time in 23 years the club will be without any sort of Whelan family control. Gulp!
