Thought England had it but one over from Jordan where he just lost his radar was enough to break the back of the run chase. Well done to NZ though hope they go and win it now.

Yes I hope NZ win it now. It will make up in a small way for 2019.

Critically the catch that was a 6 was the the turning point. Had his foot not touched the rope I think we would have gone on to win.

Aussies repeat what the Black caps did the day before.

Equally frustrating!

Yes I think we used up all our energy in the first 4 games. Smashing the Aussies turned out to be the highlight and they will probably go on to win it now.

A bad toss call.

An awful first ball.

A terrible day.

Mind you the lower order rallied to get us over 100 I guess!

Do you know I can't recall us having many if any warm up games. To go for 9 an over in a Test Match is career-ending. It feels like a 5-0 altready. Hope we can rescue something from this series.

Aye, it’s just all too predictable. Australia is a finger spinners graveyard certainly for visiting teams so makes not picking Parkinson all the more egregious. It’s hard to see anything other than another heavy defeat there.

We tried to but the weather got in the way .

Probably wouldn’t make much difference!

Well that last two sessions was more like it. A lot of work for England to do yet but great stuff from Root and Malan. Realistically I think for us to have a target to bowl to in the final innings we need to bat all through day 4 and set them a minimum of 230 to win.

When Root plays well England score well !

Cannot be too many times when he has “failed” but the team have got a decent total ?

I was over the moon when I saw the score this morning. I really feel that lack of match practice was a factor in the dismal first innings total. Let's hope we dont lose a wicket before the new ball is due.

I woke at 3.00 this morning and saw the score. I wasn't expecting a miracle, but I thought we would make a better fist of it than that. Root can never be classed as a great until he gets a ton in Oz. He wont' have a btter chance than that. Embarrassing really.

Yes - couldn't even blame the new ball really.

Lost 3 key wickets before that.

Almost as if they forgot how to play Lyon or know how to.

Seem to be pinning our hopes on Broad and Anderson coming good in the day night tests but then if we cannot bat....

Have to say I think the end of this series should see the end of Roots captaincy. He’s just simply not very good at it and think he should focus on his batting. The one time our bowlers looked threatening and bowling to a plan was while Root was off the field and Stokes took over, I’m not sure it is a coincidence.

Just another disaster of a tour to Australia. It’s remarkable we never seem to learn the lessons from one tour to the next.

Very good observatiion Kieran. I've thought the same for most of his captaincy. Maybe Stokes as captain might be the answer. I think statistically this is the worst ever team to have toured Australia after 2 tests. The only shock will be if this isn't a 5-0 although the Aussies usually ease back once the series is won, which will happen in the coming week.

I was gutted when these Ashes started and I realised it was on BT Sport and I couldn’t watch it.
Now - it’s a blessing, just have to check cricbuzz each day to see how shite we’ve been again but thankfully don’t have to suffer the pain of actually watching it.

Our best hope is this series gets cancelled due to COVID.

Least it would avoid the 5-0 defeat.

What’s frustrating is that in this test had those scores been reversed and Australia had batted first and been skittled out for 185 and then we’d batted and got 267 and only ended up with a first innings lead of 82, you just know that Australia would’ve then got around 350-400 in their second innings and still won easily whereas we will end up all out for about 150.

To think a pal and me planned to go out there for 5 weeks. Covid has saved us all that pain.

At least given the lack of resistance from England you could see more of the country. Went there in 06/07 for the Melbourne and Sydney tests. We lost 5-0 but at least that England team knew which end of the bat to hold.

Didn’t really have that many expectations this morning but this ineptitude has exceeded anything even I thought was possible. Utterly pathetic!

Didn’t even make it till the lunch break then.

World record number of ducks etc.

Yet it seems the batting kind of gets away with it .

Well we got a spirited draw out of that.

No wonder they want to keep Stokes/Bairstow on.

Despite their injuries another decent knock.

And for once the tail wagging.
