Lost to Macclesfield on pens!

Dominated possession - dominated throughout, really.

Their goal came against the run of play, but we responded in seconds through today’s signing, Lucas Colville.

However, the main disappointment for me is the penalty shoot-out. First three pen takers were O’connor (CB), Akpan (DCM) and Riley (RB) - when there was the likes of Payne, Scannell and Wright on the pitch. Why? No idea. No excuses, should’ve scored more than one from the 19 shots we had.

We go again.

Outclassed Scunny already a massive difference to the last 3 seasons, I know we will come unstuck the way we are playing but by god it’s enjoyable to watch.

Won 2-1 at Shrewsbury. At 6 o clock I couldn’t give a shit about this game, and I didn’t even bother to go..but now we have won I am surprisingly happy - more for the reason of confidence given we have lost our first two games and it’s a slippery slope from there.

A League Cup win, wonder what they are.

We've not won since 2010 I think. Don't know why we bother.

We rested players tonight but then I think so did the Cobblers.

I think we shaded it on quality of opportunities created, but I don’t think you get points for that.

Ended 1-1 after 90 minutes (probably fair on balance) and then the penalty shootout was the usual lottery, but fuck it, we won. In a season where we may not be doing that too much, it matters, regardless of the competition.

I have history with this competition. I was one of 1720ish people at Selhurst Park when we crashed out to Peterborough during Peter Withe's *shudder* very brief tenure. The competition was then sponsored by Rumbelows. A few years later I met and subsequently married a Rumbelow, a very distant relative of the family that owned the retail chain if my late father-in-law's claims are to be believed.

Brentford were a class above us. We gave a good account of ourselves but they was just better. Ryan Woods what a player he is - bossed the game from start to finish

Decent 90 minute result and performance from us at The Den, shame about the penalties. Back to the league on Saturday.

Competent win at Grimsby for us. Decent performances by Cannon and Rathbone in midfield may lead to them retaining their places at Fleetwood on Saturday.

We lost 1-0 away to West Brom who had only made the 3 changes since the weekend, whilst after having 2 gruelling league fixtures we made 8 changes. The team certainly didn’t disgrace themselves; as such it was their only clear cut chance in the game fortuitously after a ricochet.

First 3 games we’ve scored 1 goal (by a defender) and got 1 draw. Sounds bad, but a lot more positives than negatives IMO.

One thing that wasn’t mentioned is the return of Luke Berry after the horrific injury he suffered at Colchester on Good Friday - a double leg break and dislocated ankle. He returned 3 months ahead of schedule.

Not ready to make too much of an impact for a while, but to see him on the final stretch is remarkable.

Hey I mentioned it on the previous page! This section of forum is so dead though I dont blame you for not checking!

Great news and really incredible to see him back in the pitch so quick. After seeing the state of his leg at Colchester I thought we might not see him again for a very very long time indeed.

Excellent news about Luke and very unexpected. Wasn't expecting to see him on the pitch until October. Agree about this forum. Very quiet with few teams represented. Shame as the league two forum is very active in comparison. Oh well there's always Outlaws!!:bg:
