The problem is the clubs (or a lot of them ) voted for this, and would for B teams in the league system, so they're not going to go out and play youth teams/resign in protest. It's up to the fans to protest during normal games and then not attend these ones, not just the games against the B teams but all of them in this competition.

I find it hard to believe a lot of clubs would be in favour of B teams buddy. Any chairman who Openly stated he voted for such a thing would presumably come in for all sorts of stick from the supporters

I think that those who have voted in favour of B teams in this competition have done so as a compromise and have been assured that if they support this they guarantee no B teams in the league structure.

That's the only possibly reason I can think for them supporting this, other than back hand bribes.

Someone on stagsnet was saying there was talk about how the premier league clubs said they'd cut the funding/payments to lower league clubs if they vetoed it, obviously only speculation, but you'd be hard pushed to believe there wasn't some form of push/bribery/intimidation in the league

Don't underestimate the need to feel "important". I can just imagine some of our chairman passing the port and nodding like bumpkins whilst the premier league massage their ridiculous egos. "Progress " "THE FUTURE" " development ". Pompous 5th columnists the lot of them.

Clubs only look at the financial aspect of things so yep, I'm with Tom. The opposition to B teams comes mostly from the fans not from the clubs themselves.

do clubs not need to enter this competition pre season anyway? if at all possible the clubs that had the decency to vote against should refuse to enter. worst case scenario if you have to enter just play the kids and by kids I literally mean kids. like 16 year olds from the academy

Not many from League 2 voted against this crap just Hartlepool,Portsmouth and one other i can't remember. With our chairman who never tells us anything his vote like our transfers will be undisclosed :sna: Then again with us being a trust run club who will vote for us or will we have no choice in which case the shit could hit the fan,Exeter fans i would love to hear your opinions being in the same position as us.

Luton voted against, see the article on our official site for more details.

We also expressed opposition to the idea of B teams in the league last year, and have also been in favour of increasing the numbers involved in promotion/relegation between L2 and the National Lge whenever it has been discussed.

The people in charge of Luton at the moment really are nice people, something which hasn't always been the case.

I think Gary has been very sensible in this. Obviously we weren't impressed, but acknowledged its a democracy and now its something we need to embrace. The talk of boycotts will only lose your own club revenue.

So what if they lose revenue? it will show our clubs that we don't want this and they might think twice before allowing it to happen again. A fan boycott is the best way to get the message out there that fans should be consulted on things like this, not some rich chairman on holiday in Portugal.

How about if the semi finals consist only of teams who voted against the proposal. Then, they all just withdraw from the competition.

Not sure if this has been pointed out in here already, but what I like most about this proposal is that it'll insert an extra 3 games into the season at the very least, one week after the FL spouted a load of bollocks about the need to reduce fixture congestion with the abolition of midweek games. Wonder why they suggested that.

We're obviously not involved in this competition anymore, but I'd be 100% boycotting it if we had remained in the league. It's a disgrace.

There's a petition up on FB against this ....I think it won't happen ......The group stage thing alone , there will be some matches at the end of it when neither team can progress , who in thier right mind would pay to watch that ?

Bizarrely it hasn't really been discussed much at Exeter. I guess people are distracted a bit by the ongoing issues around redevelopment of the stadium and our progressive work to get up to a category 2 academy.

The trust haven't made a formal comment and as far as I'm aware Taggy and the board haven't said anything either.

The way the Premier League has been allowed by the football authorities to essentially 'rule the roost' is an indictment of the sport in this country.

Why do PL clubs need another £1bn a year to share amongst themselves? Surely at least 33-50% should be filtered down to the lower leagues. A £1m prize money bonus from the PL is a disgrace.

It's no coincidence that this announcement has followed the FL's announcement about the extension to the amount of divisions. I fully expect to see PL academy clubs playing in the FL in the not so distant future

They'll surely get dicked though won't they? The only real experience I have of under 21 sides is when we played the Arsenal lot in pre-season last year. Their style was pleasing on the eye, but a lot of mistakes were made etc. which went unpunished because it was a friendly. Not much physicality either from either side, for obvious reasons.

Which leads to the question... if the under 21's style of play is found out in the FL, would the under 21 sides be subject to relegation out of the FL like every other club? Would first-teamers be drafted in to help keep them up?

Whatever happens its a clusterfuck. I won't be going to JPT games vs under 21 sides, but will versus FL clubs.

Carlisle United have confirmed they voted in favour of this shit show.

I'm disgusted with my club and embarrassed. I feel like telling them where to shove their season ticket, but I guess that won't solve anything. The only thing I can do is send them a foul mouthed email expressing my disgust, as well as boycotting these games and hiring the Russian Ultras to wait outside the ground to punish any c*** who think it's acceptable to attend these B team fixtures.

Exeter City also voted in favour.

Don't agree with the decision whatsoever.*

The statement ends with "To be clear, this is not a precursor to ‘B Teams’ entering the league structure, which Exeter City would be against should it ever be proposed" which ultimately, is the main reservation I have.

Shitty bollocks of an argument. It's 100% a precursor to B teams in the league and why would clubs be that against B teams in the league but vote in favour of this? It is still watering down a senior, professional, football league competition with only the rich Premier League benefitting from it. Any chairman who says it'll help the competition or our clubs in any way is talking out of their arse.

Crewe still yet to publicly "declare". 99% sure our wet lettuce of a chairman will have voted for it.

If anyone wonders why I'm a 'neutral' these days it's because Cambridge United have repeatedly sold our fans out, and the fact that we've voted for this is at best disgracefully misrepresentative, and at worst is a downright insult to those who've supported the club through thick and thin and presumes we're windowlicking invalids.

Cambridge United can, quite simply, f*ck right off. As can any other club with such low morals, lack of balls, a spine, a brain and any sense of brotherhood. I apologise on behalf of that cretin Jez George for any lower league clubs who did the moral and just thing and voted against this proposal. We deserve all we get.

Surely this will mean the fines for making too many changes and playing reserves / kids can no longer apply? Otherwise it'd be complete double standards.

I hope all proper clubs involved make 11 changes and make it effectively a full blown youth competition, with tiny attendances, showing it for the crap that it is.

Does this not also start closing doors on Premier League loan players? Why send their youngsters down the leagues on loan when they can play "senior" games with their own U-21s.

Still struggling to see one pro to this whole farce. Extra prize money? Equates to extra £16k per club if it was to be spread equally.

Turkeys voting for christmas.

In our case I imagine this may actually be part of the carrot. We've done well out of having a good relationship with clubs like Crystal Palace, Spurs and even West Ham. If we were to go against what the PL clubs want, we can stop getting the benefit of their players on loan...

Everyone is a pawn when it becomes political.

Alas all we will have again next season will be 17/18 players, due to our finances we had to close our academy so we no longer have a youth team so we'll be fucked with possible suspensions and injuries. Our chairman is giving nothing away but i can comfortably predict he voted for it,like TimeyWimey said turkeys voting for Christmas :ffs:

Not even an U18 team? I know an academy is expensive, but the EFL put up £1 for every £1 the club puts up.

Isn't this a bit harsh? I always thought Cambridge were a relatively well run club (post George Rolls of course)
