We played them both times after that Everton match so I might be a bit biased with this but they were terrible both matches. So negative. I'm struggling to remember a single attack of note from either match. Very solid at the back mind. Think I saw them twice on BT too and they were brilliant once but the same as the two matches vs us in the other. The matches they had against us were big playoff showdowns, it was quite frankly bizarre that they offered so little threat.
I think that's Garrard, it's how he sets up. They've got a really good striker now in Ndlovu and have recruited well this summer, I think they'll be a playoff team again. They are begrudgingly a well run club, but if they really want to kick on I think they need to lose Garrard.

Who other than Ironside and Sterry have Doncaster signed that would indicate going for it?

Ironside I would've liked us to go for, good signing. Sterry should be decent but has never done anything of note above mid table L2.

(Genuine Q btw - I've just seen lots of numbers coming in at Donny. )

Too early to say I told you so?

We spunked a fair wedge to get out but Luton were dishing out serious funds as well for a few seasons around that and struggled to get out. Fleetwood joined that league that season and Mansfield and Grimsby werent shrinking violets either.

Also, I don't forget the grief we got from Wrexham fans because we only took 50 fans up there on a Tuesday night when on Saturday after it was the biggest match in the clubs history away at Old Trafford. We were only there because of we were cheating we were told. Does that still count now it's Wrexham? :fish:

So anyway, league 2?

Crawley cheating by provoking Stags players to get them sent off is always a sign of a good side that will get promoted.

We were some way off all those you've listed. All those had the top budget in the division at one point, we never did. FGR, Bristol Rovers and Cheltenham all had bigger budgets than us too.

It's from memory not facts.

That match report. The Mcfadzean who got your player sent of is now playing for Coventry in the championship...he scored the other day...him and Pablo Mills as centre backs and that front line. What would I give to be able to replace a player as good as Brodie with one as good as Tubbs.

That season I imagine you had a bigger budget than us, this was pre-Radford spending we were on our arse.

I assumed he was talking about that whole era as he referred to multiple Luton seasons.

All teams getting promotion from conference in them days were very good at the dark arts. You would have thought we had learned but it happened the year before as well.

Back then they were spending crazy sums of money, probably not seen again until Wrexham last season.

Or Fleetwood the season after...or Luton.

Don't get me wrong. We spent shed loads and I'll never deny it but we did some good business too. We got Tubbs for less than Luton offered at the same time as they wanted to spread it out over a few years. Then we sold him for more than ten times that the next season.

Nick Powell injured.

Expected him to get injured but not after two games.

It’s always strange when injury prone players get injured and don’t work out…

We’ve done the same over the years, can never get my head around taking that sort of risk. Rarely works out.

We took a risk on signing Harry Lennon from Southend a couple of years ago. Had a leg break, come back for SU then broke his other leg. Joined us after reviews of being one of their best defenders when fit, but hard to keep him fit. Got a horrible back injury and in the summer he retired as he'd probably cripple himself in the years to come.

Injury prone players are a massive risk, and seems like we have somewhat dodged a bullet in not signing Powell (if he was to decide on coming to us).

Can you Imagine if he’s stayed fit?

He was actually a really good defender, when he did play. Shame it didn't work out for him. Listened to the way he was talking in an interview and said he's settled up this neck of the woods, met his girlfriend up here. Seems like a decent chap too.

It has worked as we did get a change in manager and are now finally seeing some work done by those at the top to get us back to where we were.
It has indeed worked and congratulations on finally getting back to where you were before.

P.s I hope you kept the receipt from all the promotion banners and balloons that you bought in July pal.

Bizarre thing about that league table is that the 4 clubs directly above Donny at the bottom have all gone on to have Premier League campaigns and are at worst solid Championship clubs now, while all the top 8 bar Col U have been back in non-league since, and two of them gone completely out of business!

Nice to see that old 1998 league table, one of only 2 title winning Notts sides whilst I've been a supporter.

99 points , absolutely smashed the league, got promoted ridiculously early and scored goals for fun. Was a one-hit wonder and didn't lead to much but boy was it fun.

Plus for any away following nerds....sorry enthusiasts out there it also involved fully taking over two and half stands of a very near neighbour's (not rival) ground. Great away support that day , embarrassing levels of home support as their chairman cashed in when the future champions came to town.

Marvellous.

Might be three yet, Scunny still having ownership issues.

Biggest surprise of the season so far - Stockport County for me. Didn't expect us to be top and certainly not with the injury crisis.
Biggest disappointment of the season so far - Gillingham
Best side you’ve faced - Mansfield
Worst side- Sutton
Side you think will turn a corner - Grimsby
Top 3 - Wrexham, Mansfield, Stockport in that order
Bottom 2 - Sutton and Forest Green
