Didn't realise an away day only counts if you go to the place where the match is
You're describing an away day in Manchester not Bolton.

It does to me yes.

You're describing an away day in Manchester not Bolton.

When I went to Southend away this season, we spent the pre-match drinking in a lovely pub in Leigh-on-sea before getting the train to Southend and getting the train back to London straight after the game.

To me, its still an away day, even though I only went to the town of Southend for the match.

Yeah I remember in my travel days we used to stop in other towns prior to the final destination. Still the same away day.

Often stop off at random places on the way to games, and on the way back.

Remember we organised a coach to go to Norwich once, on the way back we ended up in some lovely little neighbourhood in Thetford with a nice pub. A few elderly couples eating their Saturday supper, their faces when 40 odd blokes from London pile in.

All part of the away day for me, little detours like that.

Depending on where you're going, it's sometimes better to stop somewhere else! Remember we used to spend more time in Chester than Wrexham when we played them. Same for Bury, we drank in Manchester.

For us you'll be better off stopping in Kingston, New Malden or Wimbledon, there's one pub nearby which is about a 10-15 minute walk serves awful ale

Only 2 new grounds for me, Bolton and Coventry.
The fixture I'm most looking forward to is the one where we secure another season in this division.

I'm not saying it doesn't make it a good day out but it's not a proper away trip to the town you're watching the game in.

I can understand Londoners drinking in Manchester.. It's on the way to Bury/Bolton/Oldham and you have to go through Manchester to get there. For a Preston fan to go to Manchester means he's gone past Bolton into Manchester then back into Horwich. Just seems an odd route. Bolton is a fairly substantial place im sure you'd find a drink just as easy and probably cheaper.

Both Kingston and Wimbledon are a doddle from where I am in SW8. Only issue might be if I can get a ticket!

Surely there must be loads of decent boozers in Kingston-Upon-Thames? Or is the ground just in a pants location?

If the weather is good then the Bishop which is by the river in Kingston is a nice place to be pre-match.

To be honest I'm not looking forward to any fixtures.
The thought of League 1 is starting to really depress me.
It's like being in prison and I don't even know the release date.

The most attractive fixture for us next year is probably Bolton
and I never thought in a million years I would ever say that.

Wimbledon is the one I am looking forward to. Just up the A3 from me.

New Malden is a bit of a shite hole but Kingston has loads of good pubs. A fair few of them being on the riverside as well. As LuckyT said, the Bishop is good as is the the Gazebo, The Mill and Woody's. The Ram is my fave down there for its ales.

Feel your pain. Now our 5th season at this level. Hard to take, and yet we are exactly where we deserve to be, but it's still depressing. I often talk to my 7 year old about the PL days, and he looks at me like I'm making it up. 'Really? Us? But we're shit dad.'

Few games I'm looking forward to. Bristol Rovers, Oxford and a couple more London clubs which are always good for a day out. Would look forward to Northampton, but the allocation is what, 900? Pity.

None in particular despite being very excited for the season. I hope I'll finally make a trip to the County Ground and I will try and do more away days in the south east.

Looking forward to 44 of the games to be honest, The Championship was good but it wasn't nearly as interesting or enjoyable as League 1, until we can go up and play our style successfully in the Championship I'm glad to be back here where we can entertain once again

You say that, but you're far weaker (looking from the outside) now than you were when you left this league last time. A lot of the players that scored goals when you were blitzing teams have gone, and the ones who have replaced them aren't of the same calibre. Plus, your midfield was basically Alli + others, so that'll be a big difference.

Being southeast based I'll say Charlton as its a new ground for me. Also looking to another trip to Millwall as enjoyed it this season (result notwithstanding!)

That's true, but it was the same last year and we almost stayed up so with the right I comings I think we will be right up there. I'll disagree with the alli comment, he was good and the stand out name but he wasn't our best player in the middle, Carl Baker won player of the year, potter was consistently brilliant (alli got a bit I consistent towards the end) and Lewis Baker came in and was better than Alli IMO

Bristol Rovers away on a Tuesday night in November, fuck sake. One of the best Saturday away days already out the window.

Hate this league already.
