Get yourself in picadilly's bar but don't knock an ashtray over, my mate was forced on stage for a chest waxing as punishment hahaha. All the action is at the shopping center, recommend Monaco's restaurant round the next bay for a good steak too, enjoy mate i had a fantastic time there.

Chaps, taking my lass on a surprise trip to Rome (I know, I'm a soppy get).

Any one got any class recommendations for resteraunts, bars or places to see that aren't straight out of a guide book?

I've been before about 10 years ago it it'll be a considerably different trip this time.

Anyone got experience, good or bad, in using TransferWise to make overseas foreign currency payments?

They seem my best option to make payments in Indian Rupees to our local agent who is organising hotels and transport for our Christmas and New Year trip to Kerala for birds and wildlife.

I've used Covent Garden FX and Worldwide Currencies in the past (both excellent) but they don't deal in rupees.

I live on my own and work from home. Never been much of a traveller, been to the usual places, America, Spain etc...

Never been one to relax on a beach that doesn't appeal at all.

But since I started to work from home I've started to think about travelling again. The thing is I have no real desire to. No desire to escape the daily grind as I don't really have one.

It's more of a felling that perhaps I should travel rather than actually wanting to. I know people on here will be pro travelling (Obviously lol). But really just asking for advice on my situation.

I know I'd be excited to book a trip somewhere but I know on the day of the trip I'd really wish I hadn't bothered.

I know people who barely travel out of the town I live in and they seem completely content. I'm the sort of person who's perhaps never content and always think no matter what I'm doing that perhaps I should be doing something else. It's not a particular positive trait. I'm sure if I travelled a lot I would be the sort of person who would then wish for a more settled life.

Bit of an odd situation I know, but any advice appreciated.

Well this is just it. Surely the great thing in life is doing what you want when you want. I do just that. Granted I'm not rich or anything.

And its not that I don't do anything, I go to football, matches, concerts etc...I seem to enjoy that more than holidays. Who's to say travelling is any better experience than doing something else?

But if I don't really want to travel then why would I? Its just more of a sense that maybe I should. Not sure if I'm being influenced to do something rather than wanting to do it.

I guess the only way is to try. I also think a bit of it is having to do it on my own and will travelling on my own be as enjoyable?

I found traveling on my own quite enjoyable as you can do what you want. If it's not important to you though then don't feel pressured to travel. Maybe you've just done the wrong sort of holidays? If you're into football and don't like beaches what about a short city break taking in a game while you're there?

Thanks Techno. Yes if I did take a trip I would definitely arrange to see a sporting event or concert. I've thought about new York, maybe take in an NFL game. It's not something I'm going to rush into, I quite like the idea if I want to do it I will do. I'm quite a spontanous person so could get up tomorrow and book one but I could easily wait a few years before I do it. lol.

I/we do a lot of travelling these days, mainly seeing wildlife in interesting places before the physical ability and money run out, and our last trip included a ruby wedding celebration - so I'll have to think laterally to relate to your basic question.

I'd say one the best reasons to travel can be to do something you enjoy doing in the company of interesting people. Doesn't need to be an organised group but I'd never be an advocate of travelling and looking for experiences solo. Others would - it's just not me.

I've also always felt the need get out of my comfort zone occasionally and, with luck, a side effect is that you better understand where other people and cultures are coming from. Getting to new places, with new people, but with a shared interest can do that. In our case, it was music, food and walking. More recently rare birds and photography have been the drivers for where but the other interests remain. It could be gigs, festivals, iconic grounds, learning a new skill/interest - photography, food, etc. Inspired yet or have I missed the point?

Although I can enjoy the travelling (glimpsing things & places or brief chats with interesting people), it's the getting to places I'd like to be, to do things that I like, that is the motivation - and the memory that makes you want to do it again.

Got back from Nuremberg last night, was basically just 8 of us on the piss for 3 days and it was fit for purpose.

Plenty of bars, a very picturesque city centre and sound people, would definitely head back there.

Aye, think my flights were about £46 return.

About €3+ for 500ml of quality beer in the pubs.

Just back from Hamburg for exactly the same reasons.

What a place, genuinely one of the best places I've been to for a booze. Been to Hamburg and Berlin now, Germany is a great place, need to visit some of the other cities.

If you're going purely for the piss-up I can't recommend it enough. Probably made better with all the Christmas markets open etc.

The Reeperbahn is just bar after bar, on our last night I pulled my phone out my pocket to check the time and it was 6.45am, the place was still heaving. Stumbled out and the whole strip was still packed and bars blaring out music, no idea what time it shuts up there - if ever.

Know what you mean about Berlin, not the best if you're after a jolly. I went for the England friendly in 2008 so only went to a handful of bars but I thought it was a decent city, even though we was there for the football you could still feel the history etc.

Nice, any specific reason for visiting the Baltic states? I went to those 4 a couple of years ago (just swap Stockholm with Helsinki). Good music and food/beer in that part of the world.
