I agree, Beaufighter, you can't plan when to go up. However, a club's board can decide when to make more of a promotion push by diverting a disproportionate amount of the budget into the playing staff. We've clearly decided not to do that this season. That doesn't stop the manager and players working their nuts off to make the unlikely happen, though. (I don't play FIFA either)

There are fans on one of our forums saying the same sort of thing, we had a nightmare last season (you may have noticed) but that was down to rank bad management more than us being out of our depth. So now some are saying we need to go up in two years time and build towards that goal. It’s an admirable notion, just not a realistic one I feel. Quite apart from the basic requirement of winning enough games, you do actually attract a better class of player after promotion that you cannot prepare for in L.1 (well, for a club of our stature anyway, maybe less so for Pompey). Matt Derbyshire is a case in point. He would never sign for us in L1, but was excellent in the championship until pudding head binned him off. Derbyshire said in an interview as I recall that we had spoken to him during the season, but he was only prepared to sign after we won the final. That is just one example, but you are right too. It requires effort from the board and pinpointing the right players that you can actually get. There is the TV money too. Not enough to compete near the top, but maybe enough to get some investment where needed. Going up, could be the catalyst for change, rather than the reward for it. With luck.

So 2 points per game.

Basically you need to be playing at league winning form, just to survive.

Kudos if you pull it off.

Yes, very likely. That shadow haunts us all.

Is the Rochdale game off? If so, this must make your run in a nightmare, hope you have a big squad you are going to need them.

The picture I’ve seen of their pitch is fantastic. Massive tractor marks across a corner of the pitch.

Looking OK at half time. Hope Warney reminds Ajayi he is defending while they are off. Surprised to learn of Wigan and Blackburn's scores. Everything crossed now.

Plymouth week with the draw atm. We started well but a dubious pen have them a lift. They missed but their tails were up and they finished the half on top and rightly level.
Second half we haven't got going, and they've carried on from the first.

We aren’t in it our home form is dire and it’s starting to resemble the collapse to relegation of 2 seasons ago

Thanks for the favour in injury time though. We played a ridiculous 9 minutes over, after the ref indicated 8.

Cracking win against a poor Oxford side. Their goal was the only real shot on target I remember which came from a mis-kick from our GK.

First half I felt we deserved to be drawing but the 2nd half we were superb, much the better team.

We didn’t deserve it but a very much needed point another 13 and we might be safe I just don’t know where they are coming from as I don’t see us winning anytime soon

What a difference a day, and a change of manager makes.

We fielded three of our five new signings, consigned our ageing foreign legion of crocks to stay behind and train in Oxford, and fielded a team with an average age of 23. We still had to re-shuffle twice, as we lost Wes Thomas in the warm up and his replacement John Obika after less than half an hour.

But, once we'd settled down and worked Charlton out, we grew into the game and realised it was there for the taking. Still managed to gift Charlton two goals, but came back, scored three, hit the woodwork twice, and deservedly got the late winner to send the 1,400 away fans crazy.

That's what football is all about. Oxford are back!
This post is exactly what football is about

Would have rather lost 3-0, would be less angry. Bury had most of the chances, somehow look like we are going to grab a spawny last minute win and we can’t even hold out for 4 mins of injury time. Shite.

Gutting end to the game, although fair result in the end. Low quality game as you'd expect when we have no confidence and Bury are bottom, however it was an end to end match and quite enjoyable for the neutral, in fact probably one of the most entertaining home games this season. First time we showed some fight for months, we need someone in quick however to sort the shape and defence out. Not sure there should have been 5 minutes added since most of the time it was Bury players rolling about like they'd been shot which wasted most of the time, but shit happens. If we'd have kept 11 on it might have been a different story.

Onto Charlton going to be a difficult game I'd bite your hand of for a point now.

One team always comes up out of nowhere to have a crack at the play offs, I don't want to jinx it, but...
