The Luton promotion party (featuring Carlisle United)

The last few years we've attended a depressing number of other teams' promotion parties. Norwich, Charlton, Wolves, most recently Oxford, so now it's Luton's turn. I'm sure they'll bring a large following. We opened the Waterworks End for Oxford so I expect Luton will be similar. The good news for them is it'll be a right scorcher so they can bask in the sun on the open terrace. Though it's not their last game of the season, perhaps the ground that hosted their first game back in the league would be an apt place to celebrate promotion.

Meanwhile, in the rest of the stadium, misery will reign. The last couple of weeks has been very doom and gloom regarding the future of the club and no doubt there will be chants directed at the board, and possibly banners too. If the Luton fans get bored of watching all the uncontested Luton possession then perhaps they'd like to join us in a few.

It would be nice to put their party on hold with a win, give a little polish to the end of our season, give the board something to think about, while also handing Accrington the title but I doubt we'll see any of that. Instead it just feels like we have to try and savour the end of a spell which will probably be a high-water mark in the club's recent history.

We'll always have that Tuesday in November at Kenilworth Road.

Probably sounds ungrateful and pissy but can't help feeling a little flat about our promotion, presuming it comes. Without a doubt Accrington deserve the title for an amazing run this year but we didn't put any pressure on them at all and folded under our own pressure. Leaves me a little worried. However we seem to have recovered in recent weeks so let's get it done and not put ourselves under more pressure we clearly can't handle and may affect us going into next season if we crumble again

I feel the same. Promotion is obviously wonderful but there is a little tinge of disappointment considering where we were and the position we put ourselves in. Not that surprising I don't think that as Accrington have put themselves in a more or less unassailable position we have got better as the pressure has worn off a little in terms of chasing top spot and keeping up their pace.

I still think Jones intensity plays against him in key games, lets hope that doesnt rear its head here and those hardy individuals making the long flog to Carlisle are rewarded!

The league title was never the aim at the start of the season and would be no more than a bonus, quickly forgotten at the start of next season. This season we have seen some top quality football some of the best for years. Of course a dip in form is a concern but on the other hand I don't think anyone expected Accrington to have the winning run they have had. Credit where its due. The club is making progress on and off the pitch and these are happy times following on from a very dark period in our history. Tomorrow will be a day to remember for those making the journey.
As for the team. Expect the same line up as we have had recently. If our Carlisle friend is right about the tension at Brunton park then we need to make it work in our favour. In the same manner its been used against us previously. I've predicted we'll win tomorrow. Just have a feeling the tension is off and that even if we need 3 points on paper the job is already done.

Think we have had this discussion before but after the position we put ourselves, to be frank choke it away is disappointing - im not sure how it couldnt be!

Like I said promotion is great, but to see your team win things is what the game is about really. Barring a relegation back to this level again (which no one wants!) I cant see us getting an opportunity to win a league title for a good while and certainly not in Kenilworth Road, and this was a golden opportunity. Accringtons run has been outstanding to be honest, but the fact that we are still in 2nd despite pretty much not turning up for 2 and a bit months shows what a position we were in to win. The expectation was not to win the league, but the situation on the ground changed quite a bit with how we were playing!

You are of course totally correct though. This will all be by the by when next season rolls around and the aim wasn't necessarily the title but promotion this season but progressing as a club again having consolidated ourselves back in the league. The football up until December will also live long in the memory and if the 2 halves of the season were flipped we we would all be very upbeat indeed. In that way, the season has been successful and you are right I need to cheer up a bit!

Remember some battles with Luton in footballing terms in my formative years of the late 80s and early 90s and then latterly in the mid 2000s, no real feelings either way but after the points deductions, non league etc fair round of fucks for getting back up the leagues. Never commented on the new stadium but if/when it happens it will be a massive fillet for the club and town and maybe the Pleat esque years will come back to Bedfordshire.

One stand out game for me between the clubs was Feb 92, we went 1-0 then Kamara inspired the Hatters to flip it around I think a young Scott Oakes scored for them, Tricky Trev came on and inspired us to a 3-2 win, iirc that was our last league meeting until about 2003.

My memory goes even further back to when I was in my teens. A certain Terry Curran giving our defence the run around in our promotion season (81/82) to the top flight. Fantastic player who could win a game on his own. Made the trip to Sheffield the same season to witness a very entertaining 3-3 draw. In fact travelled away a lot in those days and the one memory I have is the amount of Sheffield Wednesday and United coaches that I saw on the motorway. Two teams at the time who took a big away support with them every game. Not that usual back then.

Anyway back to the Carlisle game. A huge shout out to the lads today. Lets do this!

oh look, we're back.

well I kind of enjoyed today's performance, a dead rubber of a game for us bit I think we gave it a go. There are still negatives, things we could do better next season but it reinforced my view that were a decent team lacking in one or two areas, we don't need to tear it down and start again.

well done to Luton, you've earned your promotion. You are one of the more likeable groups of fans on here and you will be missed. I'm happy you got it without having to beat us.

Slight hangover today not surprisingly but there's an extra spring in my step and I have a permanent smile on my face. This great game of ours is full of ups and downs and our fans particularly have had one hell of a rollercoaster ride.Enjoy the moment! Promotion to league one is deserved for everyone connected with the club. Fans, players, staff and our fantastic board of directors. Now lets finish of the season is style! Two more big partying days to come and maybe the biggest of all IF we can get the news we are all waiting for on Power Court.

Will be strange not having to play Cambridge. Never a derby game but a local fixture where I think there has developed some mutual respect between the two clubs. I'm sure our fans will miss the great day out. I certainly hope that you join us in league one the following season.

Congrats Luton, one of the favourites so no great surprise but shafted by the FA a few years ago so a big two fingers to those fuckers.
Thoroughly deserved but tinge of annoyance as they were in my lucky 15 for champions with Man City Villa and Wigan.
