I honestly believe we will be promoted with 4 games
It wouldn't surprise me, you are clearly emerging as the best side in the league. If you could beat Bolton and Barnsley on your way that'd do for me.

Sheff Wed would surely need loads of investment in the summer though? You go through that team and there's quite a lot of players past their best, or have never really cut it or stood out in the Championship.

Seems a lot of the same players who took them down too?

Presumably we caught them on an off day, as I really wasn't very impressed with Wednesday, and they were very fortunate to get a point that day.

But they got the point which is the sign isn't it.

Compared to Ipswich visually Wednesday looked miles behind technically but they managed to get the results against us and are solid enough. That's why they will win the league, efficient and good at what they do in terms of grinding out results.

Ipswich whilst looking much better in terms of technical footballers, have had a few games where they've slipped up or not won despite huge domination (was it Lincoln where they had 23 shots to 1 or something silly and lost? 1-0).

Wednesday will grind out the results other's don't consistently regardless of how pretty it looks. They will win the league and promotion with ease now.

Yeah we would need a overhaul but let's be honest the Championship is fucking terrible at the minute.

Playoffs it is, very very tired last night, pompey deserved it though, no complaints, we still have Ipswich H, Owls A and then Shrewsbury H out of the top 10

Yep, this was my take. They didn't look great in either game with us but still took 6 points. The thing I noticed was how good they were at closing down and stopping us playing and were very solid at the back. That, combined with the odd bit of quality from their forwards is a winning combination. They've consistently picked up results throughout the season and will win the league easily.

Having bigger crowds = bigger budgets.
I agree, I was just stating that anything less than promotion would be a complete failure. I think I could get Wednesday in the top 6 of this league.

We need to aspire to be like a Plymouth, who had a similar fanbase to us 7 or 8 years ago , but now average 15k and it shows in the quality of players they can attract. Unfortunately, we have a pretty rubbish achievements history considering we're nearly 150 years old as a club and are competing for supporters in a poor part of the world against an historically more successful team 4 miles away.

Exactly it isn’t always the best players on paper or prettiest team with tika taka bollocks that wins everything.

Look at Wycombe in recent years, like DC said they barely strung two passes together against us but cruised to a 3-0 win.

Everyone gets so excited because they’ve watched Barca and Spain thinking that’s all it’s about.

You couldn't though. That's why you're not a football manager and have to wax lyrical on here.

We’ve got quite a lot out of contract this summer I think. If we kept the ones we wanted I still think we’d need another 5 starters to be a half decent Championship side.

We’ve still got a few but the majority of the shite from that relegation side have gone. Bannan is (and was then) our best player, Windass was our top scorer that season, Iorfa missed about 75% of the season injured. They weren’t the reason we went down.

I'm not a football manager, but with the level of players available to me, I'd easily know enough to get top 6 with your squad. It's like I'd piss top 4 with Man City in the Premier league.

Yeah true, I think we'd have been in the relegation mix in previous seasons. I think we've scored 30 goals.

Wednesday will not only go up but will win the division. They will also invest in the summer and become at least a mid table Championship club. Average crowds of 20K + will see to that. Think Ipswich will possibly come second but may be challenged by Barnsley if they keep up the momentum. Plymouth will be in the play offs along with Bolton & Derby.

Can they invest that heavily?

Genuine question as thought they were still restricted in what they can do. I could be completely making that up though.

No we should be fine to invest if we go back up

There is no point us going up this season, doubt we could cobble together enough free agents to make a fist of it next season in the Championship anyway. We could loan players, but most teams would want loan fees for their better youngsters so we would struggle for sure.

I'm happy to have another year down here, hopefully another year rebuilding with what we can do under the current restrictions and then go up as they're lifted for the 24/25 season. Even with a wage budget at 40% of our turnover, we're still able to be competitive at this level and the hope is that we see some restrictions lifted anyway.

I don't care what anyone says, football is football - I'd much rather see us top 6 in League one than bottom 6 in the Championship or Premier League.

Still think Argyle will end up in the playoffs. They dont look as technically good as Ipswich or Wednesday. The goal difference highlights that.

They’ll be fine unless Wednesday get their act together.

The race for sixth looks super-tight. Not sure we’re going to stay the pace though, we really haven’t got the strength in depth to cope adequately with our current injuries to key players (McCleary and Vokes).

Although on paper we’ve got a very kind run-in, we all know that any fixture can bite you in the arse if you don’t treat it the right way.

Are we throwing Barnsley into the autos mix now? They've been on decent form for a while (seems an age, actually) and sniffing around. Not sure they'll quite be able to do it, having to effectively close the gap by two wins in their final eight but it could swing quickly if their form keeps up.

yes....Two from Sheff Wed, Ipswich, Plymouth and Barnsley......With Bolton, Derby and Posh for the last two play off slots Wycombe and Pompey just a little short...........Ipswich now looking strong
Sheff Wed have a good 11 but are now struggling no depth
