I am hoping we will be a different prospect post Xmas to pre Xmas. So far we are 1 player up in numbers since our last game. Lopata staying with us is great news.our strikers are all scoring so strengthening defence and midfield is critical and it is good we have already started.

Relegation battle

Looks like a relegation fest this weekend with Wealdstone (18th) without a game, there are some bottom half battles.

Kings Lynn (22) v Woking (14)

Barnet (15) v Altrincham (16)

Aldershot (17) v Maidenhead (19)

Weymouth (21) v Southend (20)

So for us draws all round would be handy so all sides drop 2 points or the lowest placed side loses.

Following these we have Wood, Dover, Woking and Grimsby so could do with 6-7 points from these. Others with tough games to follow are:

Barnet who have Notts, Chesterfield and Stockport

Maidenhead have Chesterfield, Halifax, Stockport and Wrexham

So another big month coming up.
Oh dear!!!!!
We are in the brown and smelly stuff for sure.

We should be alright for this season, as should Aldershot.

Would make a nice change if we started winning home matches - we still have to play 5 of the bottom 6 at home (Kings Lynn, Weymouth, Maidenhead, Southend and Wealdstone).

Speaking to my Weymouth supporting mate, he is really worried they are gonna fill that third spot. Particularly if we beat them on Saturday.

As for us, we are still affected by COVID, as is every squad, but we have people coming back, plus our new signings so far that have strengthened us in key positions, l think we are going to be ok. By how much, l couldn't say at the moment, but watch this space ........

Our top goalscorer and our great loan keeper both back to their parent clubs this week.

We're back in serious trouble then

Blimey, even Col U helping us out in the relegation fight, being the reason Corrie Andrews left you. Rocked up their on loan for the rest of the season their this morning and starts if their pitch gets the OK. Still in the balance at the moment....in fact it has just been called off. They are still tin pot lol.

On todays showing I will be surprised if Weymouth aren't relegated, they were that bad Southend had the most comfortable afternoon for a good 3 or 4 years. Shame as it's a great away day.

Got to agree with that, 3 very poor sides at the bottom and those above will always have that little bit extra.

You've missed us off - surely the fact we've played 2/3 games more than most below us keeps us in the mix?

Yeah we're not out of danger yet, although last night's results helped.

My gut feeling is it will be one of Weymouth, Maidenhead or Wealdstone to go down with Dover and Kings Lynn

Kings Lynn, Aldershot and Dover in our next 3 games following the FA trophy this weekend. We really have a chance to pull clear of the bottom three now 6 points has to be very minimum target from those.

I think the relegation battle will be much less interesting than the promotion battle this season.

Agree with all you say.

As soon as you start relaxing and thinking you are out of a relegation battle, you are straight back in it. so keeping focused is important.

I too feel there is one place to fill with Dover and Kings Lynn. Weymouth, after we played them on Saturday and their performance, or lack of it makes them my favourite, and Maidenhead and Wealdstone should have enough to avoid that third place. I base that on having to suffer Brandon Goodship up front for a season and he did nothing on Saturday from all reports from those who went, to change any minds. There didn't seem to be much threat from elsewhere their attack. Although it has to be said, of the current bottom 6 they are the top scorers. defensively, apart from the bottom two, of the rest of the bottom 6, Wealdstone have the best defensive figures, so that's a positive.

Signings could play a part and we have gone early for a change.

So all to play for and our next three league games are Kings Lynn (H), Aldershot (A), Dover (A). win those and we could increase the gap, lose them and we are back in the mire.

Aldershot and Altrincham are on the fringes above the bottom six and if they maintain their gap should stay clear, but they have played the most games out of the bottom 8, so are the target teams to get above for ourselves, Wealdstone and Maidenhead, with their games in hand.

Should be an interesting month, but may be a bit clearer by the end of it.

We've got you and Weymouth back to back the week after next, which is huge for us

Apart from the games you and I have mentioned on here and Stoney, I think, pointed out Wealdstone have Dover this Saturday elsewhere, Altrincham travel to Kings Lynn on the 25th, those are all the matches involving those in the mix against each other in January.

Key thing for us is that we've yet to play any of the sides below us at home. It's a shame that Weymouth have sacked Brian Stock as they'll now likely find some form.

Indeed, that is going to be the unknown, who Weymouth bring in and what impact he can have. Not sure about their budget, but my Weymouth supporting mate, who is also very active in their Trust, mentioned a figure in the region of £200k, signings and wages.

Is there likely to be an AGM Cup this season? Aside from Dover giving the season up before it even started and Ron Martin's reluctance to pay HMRC, it seems unusually quiet around financial issues down here!

Maidenhead have finally got themselves a decent keeper.
We won't be shipping shed loads of goals anymore and we score enough to trouble lots of teams.
I'm now quite confident we will stay up.

very good result for Maidenhead, puts a 7 point gap between us, them and Weymouth. Weymouth have appointed David Oldfield as manager, good appointment and a sizeable task ahead of him.

Onto Friday and KL's visit to the Hall then. Will we have any new faces in before the game, I don't know at the moment, but may get some idea at a Southend supporters evening tomorrow for an open forum Q+A session with Stan Collymore on the footballing side of what is happening behind the scenes......

Saturday at Weymouth is huge for us, a win puts us 14 points clear of the relegation zone and despite having played 2 games more would surely be enough to keep us safe.

If we don't win at Dover on Saturday, might be worth keeping it open......In true Southend fashion we will then insist in taking it to the wire!!

Naturally pessimistic supporter I am, there’s always a fear that Wealdstone will make things interesting. Who knows, maybe Eastleigh could get dragged into the mire?

If you could lay down when we face you next month that would be great. Don't do to us what you did to Notts County.
