Bringing back the release list thread from it's unprecedented demise last night.
Under contract at Crewe:
Ben Garratt (2019)
James Jones (2018)
Chris Dagnall (2018)
George Cooper (2018)
Zoumana Bakayogo (2018) (May still leave as the player and not Artell triggered the extension)
Daniel Udoh (2018) - (May potentially be moved on due to Artell seemingly not rating him.)
Ryan Wintle (2018)
Callum Ainley (2018)
Charlie Kirk (2018) - (May potentially be moved on due to Artell disliking his poor attitude)
Tommy Lowery (2018)
Owen Dale (2018)
Harry Pickering (2018)
Ross Woodcock (2018)
Josh Lundstram (2018)
Lewis Reilly (2018)
Out of contract:
Ollie Turton - RELEASE: Serial loser, constantly at fault for goals and a bastion of mediocrity under Davis. Somehow became a fans favourite for an unexplained reason, League One interest from Shrewsbury and Oldham (the fools) will see him almost certainly leave this Summer. Should have been released a long time ago but was a Davis favourite.
Jon Guthrie - RELEASE: A masterstroke considering he was signed from Pewsey Vale of the Wessex League (since been relegated to the Wiltshire Football League which is Step 11!). He was offered a contract by Steve Davis which he refused to sign. He's since refused to sign it under Artell and refused to sign it when we secured safety unlike Ben Garratt. Rumoured to be moving to a South West club, possibly Cheltenham or Swindon. We can easily upgrade on him so if he doesn't want to be here then he can leave.
Harry Davis - RELEASE: Loaned to St Mirren in January, his knee died and went on strike when Daddy was sacked. Artell isn't a fan of him, I'm certainly not a fan of him and he'll 110% be on this list. Should've left us a very long time ago and will struggle to find a professional contract (in England at least) with that abysmal injury record. Can see him staying in Scotland's lower leagues for good.
George Ray - KEEP: The greatest comeback since Lazarus himself. Almost moved to Cambridge in January but then Davis was sacked and Ray installed him back into the side where he's demonstrated resilience, leadership and a string of excellent performances now that lumbering pillock Harry Davis isn't next to him. Became Captain in February upon the injury of Danny Hollands and has sadly suffered a few minor injuries himself. He seems keen to stay and Dave Artell seems very keen to retain him, expect him to sign a new contract very soon.
Ben Nugent - RELEASE: A really nice lad and was first choice CB (because Harry was always injured) in our League One relegation season and had a decent partnership with Semi Ajayi who he had played with at Cardiff. Unfortunately, Harry Davis recovered from injury, Ajayi was sent back and Nugent and Harry together went to pot. Completely frozen out by Davis in League Two but given another chance by Artell. I really like the lad but he gives away too many needless fouls and will always cost you a goal a game. Therefore I'll release him but wish him the very best of luck in future.
Callum Saunders - RELEASE: Not got the same forward talents as his Dad. Absolute waste of a contract and has done nothing of note. Can't see him ever doing a job professionally because he doesn't take training and dieting seriously enough. Huge waster.
Dave Richards - RELEASE: No senior appearances and clearly can't challenge Ben Garratt for the starting job. No big loss.
Danny Hollands - KEEP: A player with sufficient experience, tactical discipline and great tackling ability is definitely needed at this club. If he can prove his fitness then we need to keep him, if he can't, then we need to find a sufficient replacement which will be extremely difficult but possible.
Billy Bingham - RELEASE: Done very well in an unnatural position of CB but he's a complete passenger in his natural position of CM. Yeah he might ping a nice ball to someone or try a 30 yard shot which will go miles wide to get the crowd excited, but he's a serial loser who can't put a tackle in because his legs are made of breadsticks and he can't win us games like an attack-minded CM should be doing. Release him and expect him to move back down South when he is. Can't believe some of our fans want to keep a player as mediocre as he is!
Perry Ng - Undecided: Has shown promise in CB to be a decent backup option for our defensive line, but not convinced he has the ability to be a regular starter. Wouldn't be a huge gain or loss either way so will let Artell decide on that one.
Andy Dawber - RELEASE: Signed from Altrincham as cover for our U23s as Richards got injured. Can't see him staying either.
Oliver Finney - RELEASE: Too injury prone and nowhere near the starting XI unlike Ainley who was signed at the same time.
Loanees returning:
Jordan Bowery - Undecided: Described by someone at Leyton Orient as "imperceptible", Bowery has been a revelation for us since his loan spell, assisting many goals and scoring a couple too. Despite not scoring many for a forward, his forward play has improved our lacklustre side to no end and I wouldn't say no to him coming back next season. Rumoured to have a relegation release clause in his Leyton Orient contract which means he could possibly walk away for nothing if so. Either way, he'll definitely be in League Two next season whether that's with or without us. I wouldn't mind us re-signing him but I could see us looking elsewhere due to the lack of goals scored.
Callum Cooke - Would love to KEEP but no chance: Cooke will play for Middlesbrough in the Championship next season and, if he doesn't, he'll almost certainly be playing for a Championship or League One club on loan. Far too good of a talent for League Two and I wish him all the best and a long and successful career.
Alex Kiwomya - Send him back to Chelsea for good: Despite announcing himself in the best way possible with two goal of the season contenders against Stevenage and Newport in August, Kiwomya has been a shadow of that player ever since. A few decent performances off the bench aside, he's a one-trick pony who can't last 90 minutes and his confidence looked shot to pieces during the latter stages of the Davis reign. It hasn't recovered since. Fully expect him to be loaned to another League Two club but it wouldn't surprise me at all if I saw a lower end League One club take a punt on him. Equally, it wouldn't surprise me if a Conference club loaned him either.
