Long term gains.
Here's the draw for the world championships:
Mark Selby v Kurt Maflin
Stephen Maguire v Anthony McGill
Joe Perry v Zhang Anda
Shaun Murphy v Robin Hull
Barry Hawkins v Matthew Selt
Mark Allen v Ryan Day
Ali Carter v Alan McManus
Neil Robertson v Jamie Jones
Ding Junhui v Mark Davis
John Higgins v Robert Milkins
Marco Fu v Jimmy Robertson
Judd Trump v Stuart Carrington
Ricky Walden v Graeme Dott
Stuart Bingham v Robbie Williams
Mark Williams v Matthew Stevens
Ronnie O'Sullivan v Craig Steadman

McGill and Davis to cause upsets?

Don't think you can call Ding Junhui getting knocked out in the first round or 2 a shock, it's what usually happens to him at the Worlds.

Delighted for Stuart Carrington, local lad I remember watching him in our local Cue World when he was 11 knocking in a 100 break, he lost in last qualifying round last year to Ryan Day so really pleased for him this year.
He beat Ebdon in penultimate qualifier then was 8 - 5 down in final qualifier but won 10 -9 including needing a snooker in the 16th frame.

Anyone who knocks Peter sloooow Edbon out is very welcome.

First time he has made it through qualifying for a top ranking event. Tough draw against Judd though

Yeah like i say he just missed out last year, and got to the last 32 of the UK as well so things are looking up for the lad. :D
Good to have Grimsby represented there again, seems like an eternity since the Mike Hallett/Dean Reynolds days!!

Williams vs Stevens is a proper blast from the past. Love that.

Big long shot but I would absolute love an Ali Carter triumph this year.

Stuart Bingham v Robbie Williams has all the ingredients to be the match of the MILLENNIUM.

If all goes well for Wiliams in this match he should FEEL great, as long as as he doesn't do SOMETHIN STUPID during the match and COME UNDONE.

Out of these 2 Williams is definately the BETTER MAN, and he should reign SUPREME over Bingham.

It will be like taking CANDY off a baby.

I don't want Snooker as often as I used to. I know Cheese and Biscuits is a fan so he'll find his way to this thread at some point.

I'd love White to get his return to the Crucible though. It's got to happen one year surely.
You know me better than I know myself.

To be honest, I had totally forgotten the WC was on until I turned the TV on earlier, saw the wonderful green baize, noticed the despair in my wife's face at the realisation of 17 days* of snooker and settled down to watch the Jester.

*I'm away on business for a week so she has a slight reprieve.

Ronnie or Murphy for me this year. Like you I'd love to see Ali Carter go far.

Love the snooker especially those late Saturday night finishes on semi final night. The semi final between Selby and Robertson was epic, best match in years.

Talking of Selby beginning to wobble against the Dangerous Maflin. 8-4 to Selby has suddenly become 8-7..

Selby in trouble. Expect he will still grind this out by deliberately making the frames scrappy and bitty to disrupt Maflin's rhythm.

What a bit of luck for Maflin after missing the double and snookering Selby with the pink.

Cracking fightback from Kurt.

Maflin has had some quite amazing luck the last few frames.

Selby. If I had to put my house on any player to win a deciding frame it would be him.

Oh well Maflin, made a good fight of it but Selby's class under pressure showed in the end.

Well Hats off to Selby. He looked dead and buried at 9-9 behind and completely frazzled but he doesnt know when he is beaten. Maflin has played tremendously well. A name for the future now doubt. I believe he will win a ranking event at some point.

Maflin has been around for years. He's in his 30s. Not one I'd describe as being for the future.

So Marco Fu goes through. Had a bit of a scare in the middle but was fairly comfortable in the end.

Robertson has hit a 143 already. That'll take some beating as highest break this tournament already.
